first and most important, remember that casinos are in business to make money. that's how they built all the mega resorts. on losers. so one of the best pieces of advice i can give you is BE DISCIPLINED when you gamble. if you are gambling for entertainment only, then go ahead and have those so-called "free" drinks. but, if you want to do serious gaming, avoid the alcohol. a good piece of advice: if you put a $10 bill into a machine and build it up to $20--CASH IN ! ! ! you won't win if you don't cash in. then, put the original $10 back in your pocket and play the same machine or a different on your $10 win--on THEIR money. i also look at it this way: if i had a machine at home that could turn a $10 bill into a $20 bill, i'd stay home and print money ! ! ! but i don't. so, i venture into the casinos to let their machines do it for me.

some advisors say "cash in when you earn 40 credits more than what you put into a machine". that means if you put $20 into a quarter machine, cash in when you build it to $25. the sum of all those little wins can really add up.

also, limit your bankroll. most people do $300 because that is the standard limit at most atm's. be honest with yourself, too, as your limit for gaming may not be as high as your atm withdrawal is. so be careful.

above all, don't stay at the same machine for hours if you just feeding it money and thinking that if it hit once, it will come back. sure, it happens. but more than likely, it won't.

don't be fooled by the so-called "penny" machines. sure you can win big on them, but to do so, you must be playing max coins which ranges from $2 and up. so, in reality, penny machines are really dollar machines in disguise. but you can have a blast playing a penny machine for 2 or 3 credits per game line. that's 40 cents or 60 cents on a 20-line machine. and that bet is lower than even the 3 coin quarter machines.

on a monthly basis, the las vegas review journal prints a story on "casinos' win" for the month. yes, the money the casino makes is called the casino win. today the report indicated that for the 12th consecutive month, the casino win statewide has increased. it is approaching something astronomical like a billion dollars. obviously from this story you can deduce that casinos win more than gamblers do. if they didn't, they wouldn't be in business.

establish your strategy and stick with it. don't get sucked in. a $20 profit for a whole night of gaming is still a profit and $40 more than a $20 loss would be. get it? take the little wins along the way. the big ones just don't come in that often.

video poker is a whole other ball of wax. some of the best advice and strategies for playing video poker can be found at vptruth.com. again, here you will find excellent strategies, good advice, and "the undenidable truth about video poker" which is the name of a book written by the poker pro who runs that sight: rob singer. he has a strategy that agrees with my personal philosophy: each hand you play is the one you are trying to win. forget about the "long term". that whole strategy is based on playing an infinite number of video poker hands and since it is impossible for anyone to play an infinite number of hands, the long term in video poker really doesn't exist. therefore, play the hand you're dealt. not the one you think will come along sometime in the next humdred thousand games or so. you'll stand a better chance of coming out ahead if you approach video poker one hand at a time.

enjoy. andrea from las vegas.
