Just curious: What's the highest denomination slot machine you play in Las Vegas?

I play a lot of nickles, especially the 9-line variety, some quarters and some dollars. I have a friend at work who plays the $5 machines and does quite well, but I'm totally chicken. A couple of years ago I was determined I was going to try my hand at one, so in NYNY I fed a whole $20 bill into a machine, but after two pulls (one coin at a time, mind you) I couldn't take the pressure and cashed out.

P.S. The friend hit for $7,500 at Borgata in A.C. with Triple-Triple-Blue Seven a couple of weeks ago.

I don't play pennies or nickels. Mostly I play quarters. I like the triple diamonds and triple stars. Sometimes play a 5x. Most machines are multi-denominational so I will take a chance on .50 occasionaly and have been lucky. I have played dollars some and one night took a chance on going to $2 and won $3600 at Harrahs. :D Years ago I won $8100 on a $5 machine at a riverboat, but I'm like you. Just because I did it a time or two, I'm too chicken to bet my whole wad on a high dollar machine. I usually move up if/when I get ahead. I have won pretty good on some quarters and half-dollars, like $600, $800, even $1,000 and once $2,750. I would rather play low and maybe get a good return on my investment than take a chance and be bankrupt. But then, that's just me.

May the slot fairies be good to you.

On our last trip we played the $5.00 Triple-Double-Star Machines at Wynn Las Vegas. We put in $200 and got very little play. We thought about playing the $10 machines in the High Limit area and only putting one coin in but we changed our minds.

We had some very good luck on the $5.00 Wheel of Fortune Slots in previous trips.

When I play slots, it's usually MAX/MAX nickels. After a very special
session on a Texas Tea and Cleopatra, I had a 20min. total of $2800.
The Highest denomination slot I've ever played came next....I went into
the HighLimits room at the RIO and played the $5.00 WOF...ran my total
up to and even $3,000. AND QUIT!
I put the win away and played out the trip on my origional bankroll.
I'm using that $3,000. to bring my brother and his wife to Vegas for
their first time in 10years...gonna RUN THEM RAGGED!
We each have our own rooms at the RIO, I have great seats for
MYSTERE, SCINTAS, ELTON, DANNY GANS...they're gonna have a
blast (me too) T-14

Being that I live in Vegas I don't play too many slots, but on opening day of the Wynn I watched a guy play the $5000 slot machine that they have in the High limit area. He went through $150,000 in about 5 mins. When we walked by he had about 10 credits in the machine, he hit a cherry for 10 more credits, lost all that, then put in a ticket that gave him 10 credits and lost that in about 3 mins. Another guy was playing the whole bank of $500 machines.

HERE'S THE PLAN:

Start at nickles til you have some of the house's money to play on, then move to quarters and try to get lucky again, winning enough to graduate to dollars, and if lucky, move up again! If you lose back to your original stake, STOP and take it back to nickles and start all over again! Often this will work and take the risk out of gambling higher denomination machines...it's much less painful to spin that $5 machine when it's the house's $5! If you are on a run, you may parlay 20 bucks into a grand or more throughout a night of play.

But that's just me.....

We (wife and I) go to Vegas three or four times a year. We have slowly graduated up in denomination. We started on quarters 10 years ago, then we played dollars for quite a few years and have been playing $5 slots for the last three or so years. It just seems to get in your blood. The higher you play the higher you want to play. I know it's not worth the comps but at the $5 level they will give you just about anything you really need. We were in the 1600 sq ft. suite at the Rio and all the food was comped.

Here are some photos of the Suite and stuff.

By the way, we have had a lot of luck on the $5 blazing 7's machine in the high limit area at the Rio. We hit it three times on our last trip.
We love the Rio.

Great Jackpot pics..I hope to put up one with either myself or Eileen sitting in front of a Megabucks machine!

Just wondering what the Jackpot was on the $5.00 Flaming Sevens"

Two of them were $1500 ( the photos of the three 7's without flames around them) and the one with three 7's with flames was worth $5000.

I'm sure we will hit that same machine next trip.

We stayed in suite just like that one in Aug 2004. We play mostly $1 slots.
Sometimes we get a little braver and play the $5 slots. Hubby likes to play the one with the bears in the high roller room. I like the blazing 7 also.

Yes they could and yes it is. Those of us that get to enjoy a vacation in Fabulous Las Vegas need to realize just how blessed we really are. Lots of people in this country (not to mention the world!) can't take nice vacations. We truly are the lucky ones.

Have a wonderful day.

I mostly play quarter slots, and a few dollars. On every trip I like to play at least a few dollars on a $5.00 machine ($20-$40... maybe a benjamin if I won a few bucks) and try for a quick hit and run win. It has been asuccessful "strategy" in the past... even if you get mixed bars after a spin or two that could be an easy $50 to $100 win on a $20 "investment". However, my bankroll is not large enough.... yet :) ... to actually pull up a chair and sit at a $5.00 machine...

The largest denomination I ever played was a $10.00 machine at an Indiana river boat. My friend and I each put in $20.00 hoping for a quick hit... after 4 spins (1 credit each) we hit nothing  (on that particular machine, an mixed bar would have won us $50.00 or so). Not a lot of money, yes, but not bad for one 20 second spin of a slot machine... IF we would have hit something...

I wouldn't play a 100 dollar slot machine with your money.

on second thought
now that i think about it . if it is your money i will.

The story I heard about the $5,000 machine was....the player was down about $60,000 (that's only 12 pulls lol). At that point the player hit for $120,000. Then a short while later hit for $240,000. But understand the people who play these machines their jackpots probably don't mean a whole heck of a lot. It's not going to change their lives, they're already filthy rich!

The largest denomination I've played is $100. Believe me, it was totally by mistake. I thought it was a $25 machine. I was shocked when I only got 1 credit for that amount.

Now I mostly play $1.00 VP or sometimes up to $5.00 VP. I always say, "no pain, no gain".

I usually play quarter or dollar machines, but always set aside a portion (small)for the five dollar slots.

I start off with quarters, then dollars. Once in a blue moon I'll play a $5 slot, but only when I'm ahead and don't mind blowing a few bucks on it. I once played a $25 Wheel of Forturne slot machine at Palms and hit for $250 on the first try. I cashed out and walked away never looking back. I can't believe I played that high a denomination slot machine. (must've been temporarily insane, or it was the vodka...LOL)
