We have stayed at Green Valley a few times. The pool area there is fantastic. If you play video poker, they have some full pay machines. It is a very nice place to visit.

Yes, it's definitely worth checking out. You may also want to check out the District (the mall just east of GVR).

But don't go north -- it's southeast of Vegas, in Henderson. :)

Green Valley Ranch is a quality casino, not anything really special except the opportunity to see where American Casino is (was) filmed.

The Decor is well done, the buffet is good, with a good choice of slots and VP.

They don't have enough places to cash in your tito slips but otherwise a good stop if you have a car. Would not pay a taxi to see it. There is a free shuttle from Mandolay Bay but haven't used it.

Have fun!

We live in Henderson and Green Valley Ranch is our casino of choice. They have just recently opened up the Grand Cafe which offers delicious food in large portions at reasonable prices. They have quality VP in quarters including FPDW but nothing of value for the nickel player. They also recently added several rooms so you might be able to get a decent deal during the week. The casino is a very comfortable place to play.

By the way, any slot attendant can cash in your tito coupon so we have never found that to be a problem.

As locals, we receive monthly mail from them which includes free gifts, multiple point days, and free play. We are not huge gamblers, but they make us feel wanted. They are looking to attract players from the strip so I am sure your play would be well rewarded.

Enjoy your stay!

The hotel rooms are great and the VP is among the best in Las Vegas. If you can make it on a Sunday they have a great brunch with all the champagne or bloody marys you can drink plus very good food. Go early (10am) if you can. :)

Their sports bar was listed in the top 20 sports bars in a past Sports Illustrated issue.

We've been out to Green Valley Ranch a couple of times to gamble. I like the place. It's very attractively laid out. The dealers are very friendly. They seemed to have a few $5 minimum games, which I prefer.

We wandered around to see the places featured on the TV show and enjoyed ourselves.

We began visiting GVR several years ago when they first opened. I remember saying that we never thought that "they" will comp us rooms. Actually they are very generous with their room comps. The last couple of trips we have had 3 nights comped. The rooms are fabulous and their service is exceptional. We especially enjoy coming down to the lobby early in the morning and getting a complimentary coffee and drinking out it by the beautiful pool area overloking LV.

Not counting the Super (High-priced) Buffets like the Rio Seafood, Bellagio, etc. we think that the Green Valley Ranch Buffet is the best around. The food is superb and very fresh. Best salmon we've ever had at a Buffet (every night), Great Crablegs (every night), most everything is excellent. The District is a nice place to visit and hangout. It is dog-friendly. Almost every store has a bowl of water for dogs. The Cheesecake Factory recently opened across the street. The only thing we don't like, as a previous writer wrote is that they seem to have eliminated all of the $5 tables. Too bad.

How much does the Sunday brunch cost? Will probably make a trip there in a couple of weeks.

No more $5 games? We found a few last time during the week. I hope that's still the case.... it would be a shame, if not.

First, GVR is a relatively short distance, all freeway, from the LV airport. In addition to all the gaming stuff, they have a pretty good selection of good restaurants, including a food court if that is what fits your budget.
Our favoriite coffee shop, Trophy's, though, has been turned in to a Poker room.

Does anyone know if there will be new episodes of American Casino? I liked the show even with those awful scripted responses from staffers.

The best way to know, perhaps, is to call the GVR's 800 number and ask them. When we were there last December, we talked to a couple of employees and believe me, they all know when the filming is being done. They talked about lights and cameras and equipment spread all over the place.

I have read on a web site (there are several) that they intend to bring the show back but most of the origional cast is gone. The Shamo marketing guy among others.

Staying at the Flamingo in March. How far is the Green Valley Ranch from there? Has anyone taken a cab there? If so, what's the approximate fare?

Most definitely check out hte GVR.

First, the buffet is quite good, inexpensive and they will give you $1 off if you present your Boarding Pass card.

Second, there is a very good selection of video poker with good payouts.

Third, just taking a walk around the pool area and getting a view of the Strip from the pool is a nice way to relax.

Last, if you've seen any episodes of "American Casino" you can relate to the setting once you've been to GVR.

Hello

Sports Illustrated magazine ran an article I believe in early 2005 that listed the top twenty sports bars in the USA and the sports bar at Green Valley Ranch was listed.

We have always had that on our to do list each trip to Las Vegas but still have not made it out there yet.

Maybe in June 2006.

I agree the Buffet is very good at the GVR.
And the the Sportsbook and the Whiskey are worth the visit.
Also check out the view of the Strip from on top of the parking garage.

but it a must visit and the trip is not very long at all.

to bad the people have Changed from the ones i used to seeing on the American casino

GVR is a nice change of pace from the strip. the district is very nice. if you want to see something cool, stop in the mel fisher store and see all the gold coins and treasure they found.

A while back I visited GVR while in route to Henderson. What caused me to stop was great appearance of the property and easy highway access. Inside I found GVR to be nice, clean, well appointed but nothing really special and with very tight slots. Then the TV show hit. Any organization that operates under continual crisis management with seemingly no unity of effort, has a Paris Hilton wanna be as a hotel manager and a security force...well I find it amazing that they continue to exist. Additionally one will need transportation to go to any other location. Therefor one should carefully consider what they want to be involved with, see and do while visiting Las Vegas befor casting one's lot with GVR. For me, I find that there are many outstanding things to see and do during my visits to Las Vegas. GVR is not on my list.

Two notes about GVR: we found their comps to be pretty easily forthcoming--we had a linked card between the two of us and afternoon of $.25 VP playing, we were getting regular offers for several free nights and tournaments; do not depend upon their shuttle--unless it's changed, it was just a 10 passenger van that quickly filled.

Does anyone know what the Mall is like that is facing the GVR? Is it big? Does it have anything different to the Fashion Show Mall, LV Outlet Center or Chelsea Mall?

Jacqui: the District (http://www.thedistrictatgvr.com/) sounds like a nice shopping area, in part because it's not really a mall, but designed to be like a mini-downtown of sorts. We didn't hit it when we were there, in part because we were too busy gambling! However, my friend walked around after her spa appointment and enjoyed her trip.

BigCasino: word on the Original Pancake House! We don't have them around us, and I had just about the best omelette I have ever had there (tied probably with Grand Lux).

Thanks sageblue. I think I'll take a trip out since I'm hiring a car this year :)
