We are thinking about staying there in December (it looks pretty nice for the price) and hope to hear the pros and cons before we get there.
We are particularly interested in the Concierge Level. Is it worth the extra money?
Thanks, Rat

I am not a fan of this hotel.
Extensive comments are here (http://www.ratevegas.com/blog/2005/03/stripping_mgm_g.html), but basically I feel like the hotel itself was cheaply constructed and it shows.
The walls are thin so you can hear the plumbing and other folks in other rooms.
Also, the casino design is fairly uninspired - just a football field of slot machines.
The pool is like Mandalay-light, which makes sense since the folks that built MC went on to build MB.
A couple of good things - location, the beer at the brew pub and a tram to Bellagio are all nice touches.
Also, at certain times of year, the price can't be beat. If you're looking for a reasonably priced Strip resort and can look past some of the problems with MC, it can be a good alternative.

Have stayed at the Monte Carlo several times over the years. Always enjoyed our stay. Staff friendly and helpful. Sign up for the One Club players club card before you play. Upscale from the Excalibur but not as large as Mandalay Bay. Monte Carlo has 3000 rooms. Has a free slot tournament every day if you have a players card. Top prize $500 at 7:00 p.m. finals.
Great features of the Monte Carlo are it is very pretty, even elegant without being stuffy. Very comfortable casino. Elevators to the rooms are right around the corner from the registration desk, so not far to take luggage and don't have to go through the entire casino to get to your room.
Good choice of restaurants to dine in. Great Italian food restaurant. Had excellent steak dinner at Blackstones. The Cafe, the 24 hour coffee shop had great sandwiches and breakfasts. The Buffet was decent with a pasta station that cooks your entree to order. And you must try the Cherries Jubilee or Banana Foster for dessert. The Food Court has a McDonalds, Nathan's Hot Dogs, Haagan Daz, Sbarros Pizza and a gourmet bagel place. There is a patio-type place to eat overlooking the casino for a quick meal.
It has always been sparkling clean and very well kept. Rooms were just renovated. We try for a strip view or pool view. The rooms are a nice size, not bumping into each other. We've been happy with the delux, nonsmoking room. So can't comment on the concierge level. We could hear the plumbing, toilets flushing from our room. However we've heard that at other upscale hotels, especially late at night, as we stay up late and it is very quiet otherwise. There are more positives than negatives.
The Monte Carlo is a very pleasant, pretty, comfortable place to stay. Very accommodating staff. When we checked in with Casino Host office, they even made reservations for a show for us, (we paid for the tickets, but didn't have to be bothered finding the number of the other casino and calling). Even advised us to take the regular seats at the particular showroom, because every seat was good viewing.
You can't beat the location on the strip! South Strip has great places to see and you can walk or ride the monorail to the Bellagio next door. Aladdin, MGM, Paris across the street. NYNY next door at the corner and within easy walking distance. Across the street from NYNY is Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay.
We're going back in October, staying three nights at the Monte Carlo, two nights at the Orleans and three nights in California to visit my brother.
Nice pool area complex with lazy river, wave pool, hot tub and pool, however a little small compared to the size of the hotel.
We've always enjoyed our stay there. One year we were there, the Lakers were staying there. Talk about TALL guys walking around!

I have to second everything Steve just said. I was uninspired when we stayed there. The casino just lacks that "vegas vibe". Our room was on the concierge level but we never really used any of the ammenities that were offered to us. I would have rather had a larger room on a lower floor. The only thing this place has going for it is the location and prices.

Exactly. Got a good price and like the location now that the tram is back up.

Perfect. Just what we will be looking for after a couple of days at NYNY. Nice review FUN-4-US. Your reply is one the best answers I have ever recieved to any question I have ever asked on ANY board or forum.

That may just have something to do with the fact that just about every other review I have read mentions terrible VP paytables and tighter than average slots (even for the strip) and maybe even some CSM's. I doubt we will play there much, but it sounds like for the price its a great home base (aside from the plumbing).
Thanks for your replies folks.

I have done quite well at the Monte in the past - slots seem to be fair re: payout, not overly tight. I like the fact that you can easily find $5 BJ tables (with available seats!) any time of day or night. The one thing that bugs me, though.... that smell of cherry air freshener! I feel like I've been spending time within a pack of those Luden's Cherry Cough Drops!!!

We stay at the Monte Carlo once a year and love it. We do upgrade to the concierge floor and feel it is well worth it. They have a separate lounge on that floor which is open morning, noon and early evening. In the morning they have coffee, juice, water, milk etc. along with breakfast pastries, cereals, fresh fruit. During the noon hour they have a large platter of cold cuts and cheeses to make your own sandwiches along with fruit, yogurt and quite a few other things. And in the evening you can pour your own drinks from a large selection of top brands including all the mixes and condiments, plus they have finger foods, nuts to enjoy with your drink. We felt that it was well worth the price to upgrade to the concierge and do so each visit. We also like the casino because it is not quite as crowded as many strip properties. The cafe has decent food, brew pub is fun to stop in for a beer and some entertainment or a sandwich. The service was great, especially on the concierge floor. I would say the casino has a mix of 30 somethings and up. Pool area is nice too.

:p My husband and I LOVE the Monte Carlo! We have not yet stayed on the con level, but plan to on our next visit. I think the Monte is nicer than Paris, Aladdin, TI, among others. The location is great, the restaurants are fantastic (especially Blackstones! :) ), the pool is nice, i could just go on and on.

I have stayed at the Monte Carlo twice in the last year. I have found it enjoyable and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I found it to be a good value for the money.

We love the Monte Carlo also. Have stayed there many times over the years. We have tried other casino/hotels, even the locals. I always end up comparing it to the Monte Carlo, with location, prices, restaurants, pool.
Yes, the pool area can be larger. But we enjoy the weather, so as long as we can get a chaise lounge and take a dip, go in the lazy river, we're fine.
Were always treated very nicely by the staff. Usually get comped a couple of nights and some food. We'd rather have the nights comped as the prices are up in October, when we usually go. Had fun in the casino. Didn't win megabucks, but took a lot of our travelers checks home with us....for the next trip.
The rooms were recently renovated, and they are a nice size. We're not in the room that much, with staying out late, going to shows and taking day trips. We've always been happy with the rooms and housekeeping.
Just wanted to add, it's a casino I feel safe in, if my husband decides to go up to the room before I do. Sometimes I want to play off some credits or keep going for a while longer.
In response to the "Monte Carlo Fragrance". To me it doesn't smell like cherries. It's just a fresh, but not overpowering, light floral fragrance. We always notice it coming in from the parking deck. You know you are at the Monte Carlo. Did you notice walking around Mandalay Bay, it smells like coconut?
So glad to hear other people had great times and memories of the Monte Carlo too. We'll be heading there in two weeks. Can't wait! :D

Thank you for the compliment Strip Rat. We really enjoy staying at the Monte Carlo, so it was no problem writing about it. Regarding the gambling, had lots of playtime there. Won enough money to be able to take most of our travels checks back home with us. Hope our next trip, in a couple weeks is good to us too. Three cheers for the Monte Carlo!!! I know "different strokes for different folks", but we always enjoyed our stay there and keep going back.
Enjoy your trip!!
