Went there tonight after work. Wasnt planning to..... but.....

Played a little while at the dice table & the boss asked 'ya hungry?'... so i opted for the SOUTCOASTS' mexican restaurant. I've only been comped one other time in my life for food. ((( and the first time was the buffet @ the SOUTHCOAST ))).

Anyhow, i walked in & was seated quickly. The hostess assured me "just order whatever you want". So, i opted for the carne asada ($11 normally if i remember). Meals automatically come with a margarita - so i had that to drink. It was 'okay'. I know they arent putting the GOOD stuff into em. But oh well, sixteen ounces of tangy froth on a salt-rimmed glass. No complaints. Entrees come with Fideo soup. I've never heard of this soup before. Oh well. The soup wasnt bad. It had a spicy kick to it... but -- as for looks -- it just looked like dishwater with some strands of pasta in it.

I look at the little 'receipt' thing that the cashier printed out for me as i entered the restaurant... the floor manager comped me TWO meals, even though i said i only needed one. Not bad. But, oh well - i was alone.

Since my meal was comped. I also got an order of guacamole. This was pretty good. Mind you--they bring you bean dip & a heaping bowl of salsa to your table anyway. The chips, however, were NOT made fresh. More of .. let's see .. some sort of industrial tortilla chip that may have been ordered thru sams club, lol.

Finally, my entree arrived. The carne asada was VERY tender & had a great flavor to it. The rice n beans were just that .. no fanfare displayed by me. The side of tortillas were warm & fresh. Thumbs up.

Overall .. the meal was pretty good. But, i wish those fellas had FRESH in-house-made tortilla chips.

Service .. only glitch was an 8 min wait for someone to notice i was seated. Then, from there, things rolled juuuust fine with frequent water being refilled & my waiter often asking if everything was alright.

The decor is simple. Hispanic music in the background. Fake yellow & red flowers dot the edges of the restaurant. Some sort of attempt at a courtyard?

Meal - free
Tip - $4
