This week's TOPIC OF THE WEEK" question is?
What is the most unusual or unexpected sight you observed while in Vegas?
Have you ever had a "What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas" moment?
I am looking for some more Topic Of The Week questions. If you have one, just email it to me at mrvegas98@aol.com.

I had some friends in town for the NCAA tourney and I stayed with them at the Boardwalk for 4 nights. On the third morning we were at the bar near the show room playing VP and drinking and these young guys (20's) came in with a guy who was obviously homeless. They had apparently given him some cash and essentially "hired" him for the day. They would tell him to do something then he'd do it and they'd give him a drink or some more cash. They thought it was "brilliant". At the time we thought it was pretty funny as well. Looking back on it I can't say that I agree with what they were doing but I guess if they didn't have him do anything illegal and no one got hurt then it was okay. My friends and I usually talk about it any time we get together, so it was obviously memorable.

We were in old Vegas during the day. We saw a person (still not sure if it was male or female), over six feet tall with platform shoes on that were at least 10 inches tall. This person was very, very skinny, so the legs on this creature looked like stilts. It was wearing a platinum blond bob cut wig, a white tube top and shorts so short that the cheeks of the butt were hanging out. There was a tiny short little man following this person around and having them pose for pictures in different places. We just stood and stared. It was the most bizzare thing I have ever seen. And I live close to Seattle and go there every now and then and have seen some strange things, but this took the cake.

Years ago, a lady dropped 3 quarters in a ten times machine next to mine, hit the play button and walked away, talking to her friend. The machine lined up 2 ten times and a 7. I called to her and let her know she had a significant hit. She nodded and continued to walk away. Called again, same thing. I had to go get her and show her the machine and explain the hit. She finally got it and went bonkers, collected her winnings, (about $2200. if memory serves) and walked away. I always thought a ThankYou was in order, but ya never know!!!

We once saw bride coming out of at Harrahs (long gone) wedding chapel . The front of the dress looked like very short tutu, way above her knees, and very low cut...lots cleavage showing. The back was full length, with a train. The veil was as long as the train. AND it was all in bright RED.
Have I ever had a "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas?" No, Absolutely nothing! :D

On our first trip to Las Vegas in 1976 we stayed at Flamingo Hilton. Our first morning we were wide awake at 4am Vegas time, went downstairs and ran through our meager daily budget by 6am. Late in the morning we took a walk and saw some commotion outside the Imperial Palace. We saw a person jump off a high balcony. Not pleasant and extremely emotional. We went back to our room for a while to regroup. Finally convinced ourselves to go back to the casino and decided to each take $5.00 out of the next day's money (a real no-no) to play side by side nickel machines. Suddenly we both started hitting. We worked our way up to quarter machines and eventually dollars. We could do nothing wrong. A real emotional roller coaster of a day.
We were hooked and have been back every year since then.

Saw a very drunk lady on the moving walk way into Bally's take her pants down and sit on it. I thought that has to hurt. How she made it down the esculator is beyond me. Securtiy got her at the bottom.

The unusual...
1. Playing blackjack at the Plaza and having a drunk player spot my bets. He would say "Did you loose that hand?" I would say honestly "Yes." Then he would ask me how much I had bet and he would give me my money back.
2. Mega Hot Dogs at the Westward Ho. R.I.P Mega Hot Dogs.
3. Seeing "money play" on the bet circle of a blackjack game. Since I am from NJ that isn't a common sight as the people who play in Atlantic City aren't the same type who gamble in Vegas.
4. Cocktail waitress bringing players the actual bottle of beer or water or soda. Again, they don't do this in Atlantic City. They bring you a small plastic cup filled to the brim with ice with your drink in it and that is it. So when I saw waitress bring the full bottle over for my first time I was like "WOW!!".
The unexpected...
1. Winning $250 on Monopoly Slots after 3 pulls in NYNY Casino. This seemed super rare to me so I cashed out for the night LOL. I never even play slots either.
2. Girls flashing at the Carnival Court Bar at Harrah's for the bartender to throw them some beeds. This was in July... I guess it is Madigras all year around at that bar? LOL! Yeah baby!
3. A 3 day loosing streak at the blackjack tables. From table to table from casino to casino I couldn't win no matter what.
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas...
Well that stuff all stays in Vegas just like the slogan says. I will say that I had my good share of "What ever happens in Vegas says in Vegas" times.

we were staying downtown at the plaza & had a container of leftover food &
bread from our buffet-we were getting it ready to feed the birds with it &
some homeless guy said to us "don't throw that away"-we told him that we
weren't & that we were going to feed the birds with it-he responded with
"tweet..tweet...tweet"-we started laughing & of course gave it to him-ever
since that happened we always save our extra food from our meals & hand
it to some homeless guy-you should see the look of happiness on their faces-
PRICELESS!!!!!!-attention homeless guys.....we will be back in vegas 10/29/06-

Years ago, before I moved to Las Vegas (and before I knew better), I had lunch at the Circus Circus buffet. An elderly woman in front of me had an oversized straw purse into which she dropped all manner of buffet items: rolls, butter, fruit, veggies, fried chicken, you name it. A good thing she passed on the mashed potatoes and gravy.
At another crummy buffet (Railroad Pass, I think), I watched a kid put his mouth up to the ice cream machine spigot and swirl the stuff right in. His mother was nowhere to be seen, although security did put an end to it.

Was at craps table in the Venetian with a bunch of business men that based on clothes and bets were well to do and they had at the craps table the stripper that they obviously hired for the night. After anyone made a point, they passed her business cards around the table and told everyone to ensure that they gave her their future business. As the table was warm and the dice were slowly moving around the table, the "entertainer" was wearing less and less clothing into someone came over and said that was enough.
Also had an event with my son who was entering the Marines, a rental car, and the Walgreen's parking lot but that story must stay in Vegas

Before Belligio was built, people used to cross the street where Belligio's is now located. We came out of the Aladdin and saw the police lights flashing so we walked closer only to discover some lady from Lansing, Michigan was a victim of a hit and run driver. They ended up yellow taping the area of the crime scene and stopped all traffic. We stay at the Jockey Club which is right next door and I could see out the window the coming and going of this fatal accident and you know this poor woman laid on the pavement approximately 8 hours before being moved. I was so shook up I couldn't sleep, so I looked out the window ocassionally. Sherry from Michigan

Last year we went to The Nugget with our investment club from Fla. Two of the guys came without their wives and wanted to do something different. YEP! I took them into Glitter Gultch (with my wife's ok ) and while one of the girls was entertaining me with some close-up of her mammary endowments my cell rang. I just handed it to our President and said "tell her I'm a bit busy". The rest stays in Vegas.

Well two things:
1) Was approached by a male "worker" with a menu and ask if I was looking for fun. I answered "yes, but not that kind." I saw him get into a truck later that evening so I presume someone liked the menu.
2) Went to Pahrump to "enjoy the view." Um, yea. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.
I really didn't notice anything unusual this last trip or maybe I just didn't notice.

Labor Day weekend last year. We're watching the Bellagio Fountains show and all of a sudden a couple of young men near us take off their T-shirts and shoes. You guessed it.
They climbed down and dove into Lake Bellagio. I thought they were just gonna get a quick dip and come right out, but nope. They swam all the way out closely to where the dancing fountains were. I was a bit fearful because I figured there might be some electrical mechanisms underneath that could hurt them, but they were having a ball. I thought maybe some security cameras would see them, and stop the show, but the music and water just kept right on playing.
They stayed out there a couple of minutes, swam back, climbed back out, put on their clothes and went on their merry way!

Sadly, a few years ago while at the Riviera, my husband was playing nickel slots in their Nickel Town when a woman next to him fell off her stool and just lie there. Security came, then the paramedics, and they worked on her and in the end, took her off. Oh my goodness, she actually dropped dead right there. Everyone in Nickel Town was in shock (I'm guessing for about 3 minutes!) then went back to playing.
Yuk.

No "stays in Vegas" moments, but two that I thought were indeed unusual and unexpected!
A gaggle of "ladies" at the bar at Mandalay Bay - at 8 am!! At the large bar with lots of seating -tables and chairs - shouldn't have been surprised - we'd seen various nos. of them there before - but lots of them at 8 am - that was a surprise!
Actually, we've been shocked that the management doesn't control it better - so obvious.
Also saw a small truck which had run off the street on Flamingo, west of the strip - had actually run up onto on the Bally's property - had only stopped when it met an immovable object - saw the police handcuffing the driver

Most unusual: A couple of years ago we were staying at the Aladdin when the entire Bellagio went dark. Stayed that way for 3 days, everything they had including the mall, all dark. Went downtown the next night and there was a "camera crew" filming two (obviously high) girls, going at it right on Fremont Street in front of Fitzgeralds. Turned out to be doing one of the "girls gone wild" videos. Never did get completely nude but headed off to the Station casino after the show on the street, obviously to continue the filming. Security did nothing to intervene, only watched!
The one thing I always enjoyed was seeing someones face when they first saw the MegaDog at the Westward Ho for the first time. Talk about priceless, that's it! :D
to Las Vegas we were walking between the Mirage and CP. Sitting on the sidewalk was a guy w/bushy black hair and the dirtest feet I have ever seen.
He was sitting on a dirty sleeping bag, or blanket. He had a lg snake, and some other critter, maybe a ferret. And a can for tips. He was there a couple of trips after that, but has been gone for sometime.
Last Feb, one of the cutest things was a group of "Santas" at IP! They were having a jolly time at the BJ tables, and getting lots of attention and making a lot of us passing thru smile and wave!
The "whatever happens" stuff.....well, did not happen in LV, but AC....working girls in the lounge, like someone else posted, dropping their "calling" cards right on the tables.

The weirdest moment I ever had in Vegas was when two TV people chased me down, and almost tackled me in front of Caesar's Palace. I was very disoriented and confused, by the time they stopped and told me what they were doing. I stepped off of the sidewalk to try to avoid them, but that didn't work. They were doing a special on Las Vegas tourism for CNN. They asked me about 5 questions, and then they moved on.
I didn't see it, but a friend from back home told me that I was on CNN, and said my favorite state was Nevada. The question they actually asked me was "what state are you in now?" and I answered with the correct pronunciation. This was about 5 years ago, and I noticed that CNN still pronounces my new home state---Nevoda!
It was also weird the first time I saw a human statue on the sidewalk. I was not expecting it (him) to move, and I jumped backward, then later tipped him.
I'd rather not mention my Everything in Vegas, stays in Vegas moment. Let's just say, I had one!

We were staying at the Flamingo and a really good band was playing inside near the entrance. A lot of people gathered around when a man with a baseball cap started dancing like crazy. He appeared to be drunk & was putting on quite a show. He drew a large crowd inside & from outside the casino. After watching him have a blast for abouit 20 minutes, a guy from the band announced that it was Harvey Korman from the Carol Burnette show. He bowed to his audience & left. That was a great freebie show!
As far as a "Whatever Stays in Vegas" moment, yes, I've had a few, & that's where they stayed :D

A buddy of mine and I decided to spend a weekend in Vegas testing some "Can't Lose at Craps" systems that we had read about.
Because we were none too sure of the system, we wanted to play with very low bets while we ran our experiment.
So we headed downtown, and found a 25 cent Craps table. With a 25 cent minimum, we figured we could play for a while! But...
My buddy and I were alone at the table, and having a good time, when we were joined by an odd group. There was one tall, well dressed man with a thick mustache, and he was accompanied by two very *large* men - clearly bodyguards. One of the bodyguards put a briefcase down on the table and opened it: it was solid cash. The gambler wanted the cash turned into chips.
Quickly the pit boss summoned some help and the table was surrounded by "suits" from the casino while they counted this mountain of cash, and provided piles of chips. It certainly seemed like there was Money Laundering in Progess, and my friend and I just stood there goggle eyed.
After everything was taken care of, the money checked out, and the chips pushed across the table, and play resumed. The Gambler has gotten permission to raise the maximum bet by a *good deal.* Mountains of chips are now stacked up all over the board in various bets.
Then the dice were pushed back to me. And my 25 cent bet.
"Your roll, sir." the pit boss says.
I crap out. My 25 cents, my buddy's 25 cents, and Mr. Gambler's stacks are all pulled away.
The dice go to my buddy. He leans over and whispers, "When I lose, turn left and walk out the door with me, and when we get to the corner, run to the car!"
And that is just what we did!

The strangest thing I've seen in all my trips to Vegas has to be when a group of Japanese tourists all started taking pictures of Emergency vehicles going up the strip with all their sirens and lights blaring. It was a big group in front of the Mirage and in unison they all turned and started taking pictures like crazy. You'd think they had never seen Fire trucks and ambulances before. It was like watching synchronized swimming. My second strangest sighting would probably be when there was a parade of Volkswagon Beetles going up the strip one night. :p
I live in Canada and December in Las Vegas is maybe light jacket weather, but until the sun goes down I'm in shirtsleeves. This one morning Mom & I are walking down the street to vist the Jockey Club and Monte Carlo and, as others have found, there was a TV crew set up. We went into the Jockey Club for a few minutes and then back to the Strip.
One of the people from the network came over and asked us a few questions. She was in T-shirt and shorts like most others around us. It turns out they asking people in to be on a test phase of a new game show - which actually did make it air for awhile! We're not eligible due to citizenship so we're all thanking each other and getting ready to move on.
As I turn toward Monte Carlo I see a woman coming out of the network trailer and I'm sure both of us must have looked  . She is a petite woman wearing a full length fur coat, a fur hat, gloves and boots with the fuzzy linings and she's shaking from cold! I asked the woman we had been talking to - Who's that? Her reply was that she's one of the big mucky-mucks at the network and she isn't used to being up on the surface of the Earth!
We were laughing so hard that this frozen little woman was staring at us as if we must be crazy to be so comfortable and I'm thinking if I had to wear a fur coat, I'd be lucky to make it to 5 minutes before heat stroke took me out. You just never know what you might encounter in Las Vegas. I think that's part of the fun!

several years ago, shortly after the Luxor opened, some friends were walking to their room and saw a girl jump to the main floor from the top floor. all they saw was her flying by. fortunately for me, i wasn't in the hotel at the time..... sure wrecked their trip tho.
i read all of the stories that have been written and concur.... vegas is the best people watching place on earth! priceless.
we were at the GN once and was curious on what was going on at a certain crap table as it was surrounded by security. turns out that a guy had walked in with 10,000 and was not losing.... one long lucky streak and boy were the boys keeping an eye on him. the more he played the more the crowd got bigger and the closer the pit bosses and personel were squeezing in. needless to say he had a big cheering audience by the gamblers. he was well over 100.000 when ii left.
ya gotta love that place!

There are many things that make Vegas memorable, but the most recent was last year(December '06) we were waiting for our dinner reservations at Billy Bobs in Sam's Town and there were these two ladies, quite voluptious, sitting at the bar with their husbands, and obviously quite inebriated. They proceeded to give the bar and adjacent resturant quite a show with flashing their breasts and loud attention getting conversations. Their husbands were nearby, encouraging the show, till finally the manager had to come in and ask them to please tone down as there were children in the area. They finally got seated and things got back to normal. This was during National Rodeo week and that was a dinner the wife and I will never forget!

I have tons, and because this is a Vegas message board I think that means anything I say here is still in Vegas.
In 2004 my friends and I met up with a group of girls from Orange County. Several of us gained intimate knowledge of some of the girls. None of us ever planned to talk to each other again. Then in 2005, we ran into the same group of girls and had fun again.
There are so many stories, I can't even think of them all. I was at the Hard Rock middle bar in December 2003 and a guy started talking to me. His wife was sitting next to him and he was talking about how his wife was so cool because he could go to Vegas with her and hang out with her like one of the guys, but she was really a beautiful woman and not a guy. He made a lot of suggestive comments about her and how great she was at sex. After about 30 minutes, he asked if I wanted to go up to their room with them. I didn't go.
Another guy I know looked at Joe Montana's dick while he was in the urinal, then came back and told us all about it so we called him gay for the rest of the trip.

The most unusual I think was when my wife and I were enjoying a drink at a major on the strip casino bar, and a woman approached us and asked us if we were swingers, and would like to swing!! Needless to say, I said NO, and my wife and I had a nice laugh about that!! I guess for Vegas that is not so unusual, and coming from NY I have seen some weird stuff, but we thought it was a little strange. Funny, but strange.

I have a "whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" story...
My hubby and I were outside at the Voodoo Lounge atop the Rio drinking and enjoying the view when a couple younger than us approached us and started talking. We bought each other drinks, talked for about 1 1/2 hours, laughing and having a good time. I went to the ladies room, when I walked out of the bathroom my hubby grabbed my hand and directed me to the elevator. I asked him why we're leaving cos' I wasn't done with my drink and what about the couple we just met, we were having so much fun with them? Well, he told me they wanted a "foursome"! Well, I got on that elevator quicker than he did...LOL! I love having fun in Vegas, but....I'm not quite into that...:o
I haven't seen anything too strange in Vegas. I'm in New York a lot, so strange to me isn't the same as strange in Vegas..;)

I have family in new Orleans , so i have seen my fair share of drunks, drag queens, homeless and just plain weirdos.
But what would you say if i told you i saw a maintenance man walking down the hall with "the hand of faith" ,the huge gold nugget on display at the GN,underneath his arm . He had no security guards with him or nothing.
as far as WHIVSIV moments. hmmmmmmm i will just keep my mouth shut on that one.
But i did drive a friend out to the chicken ranch brothel . But he chickened out.HAHAHA ,get it. but he really did . so i had to make him go in , just to look around at least.
I will be in vegas next week so maybe i will have WHIVSIV moment to share then.

The most unusual or unexpected sight we observed while in Vegas was about two summers ago before the new double decker deuces were introduced to the strip. It was at least 106 - 110 degrees outside and Ms SmitRock and I caught the strip bus from Stardust headed to Paris. As we got on the bus the bus driver was cursing and swearing like mad, people was packed on the bus like sardines, we finally understood why the bus driver was swearing and riled up. He was cursing about the body odor being circulated thru the air-conditioning vent. The bus smelt rotten and of pure funk. He stated he was fed up smelling stinky people all day and he refuses to work under these conditions any more. After numerous cursing rages at each stop and by this time the bus was right in front of TI… the bus driver stopped the bus… got off and left all of us on the bus. His parting words was “I refuse to work under these %^&*ing conditions anymore”! Later on we saw this same bus in the same spot about an hour later being fumigated by maintenance men. Still no driver though. After Ms SmitRock and I got off the bus and our eyes stopped watering from the body odor smell we laughed our heads off!

As much as I've tried for a "what happens in Vegas" moment .... nothing. I guess it's just not my nature.
the only things I bring home from vegas is some cash (usually) and a few less brain cells.
