Hello Steve,
Enjoy your newsletter very much, especially the trip reports. So, I am submitting my trip report hoping some of your readers will find it interesting. The following report will include comments from our last two trips - April and July/August trips. First, we flew American Airlines with a voucher we got on our April trip. They were overbooked and we volunteered, getting $300 each and first class seating on another flight. The only bummer was that we waited over 5 hours because of mechanical problems. I told my husband, at least we had a voucher while the other passengers scheduled for the flight got nothing. But on to our trip. We were in LV from July 27 to August 4. Being Harrah's Diamond players we got the 4 nights comped. We usually stay 2 or 3 night but because my sisters were there we stayed 4 nights. Machines were very tight. They do have several new machines and being a slot player I had to play all of them! The last day we won but not enough to recoup our losses. We did not get to eat at the new Toby Keith restaurant (I'm not a Country & Western fan) but did enjoy several meals at the newly remodeled Cafe. Service was faster this time, but be prepared for long lines at peak times. We ate several times at the Buffet. Most of the employees recognize us and always greet us with a smile and hello. The cook in the omelet service told us that the Buffet was going to be closed from September to mid-December for a complete remodeling. The cooks remember my husband and are very friendly and efficient. We always tip them. Our host made arrangements for us to see Clint Holmes. He is an outstanding performer and we highly recommend the show. This was the third time and it was the best! Husband is disappointed with the Harrah's racebook area since it shares the sports area. The original room was located where the Poker room is now. If he wants to bet on horses, he goes across to Mirage or over to Venetian. We were present at Wynn's grand opening night on April 28, along with thousands of others. We stood in line to get an official Red Card with our name. Played for about two hours, winning over $700. We had heard that Steve Wynn loosens his slots when he has an opening and I guess it was true because we saw several hand pays that night. We now realize that we should have been playing dollar slots instead of 25 cent slots. Anyway, in June my husband and I received an individual letter inviting us to 2 complimentary nights and $100 in free play during a designated week in June. We called and said that we would be there in July and could the offer be extended. They said Yes, and we booked one night. The room was beautiful. We got a spectacular view of the resort area - so green and lush. The room had two high definition tvs - bedroom and bathroom with surround sound. Color was vivid. The tv had a welcome screen and it had our name on it - very nice touch. The only meal we had there was the buffet. Be prepared to pay $30 for the dinner, but food is delicious and the decor beautiful. Slots are still a little loose and they have a good selection. My husband enjoys the horse racing and the racebook room is fantastic - individual tv and very comfy chairs. Because we were guests we were allowed to tour the Pool/Cabana area. If we get another "free" offer we will stay longer than 1 night. This trip we were curious about the rooms; next time we will make time to see the Ferrari dealership and eat at the other restaurants. BTW, we went to the players club and showed them the letter we each got and they said they would honor the special free play offer. We each have a separate card but our play is joint. For the offer they separated our play so we could each have $100. Wow, that was great. At the end we went back and they merged us back. I thought this was very unusual. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The casino is kept very clean. Check out the restrooms - the sinks are unique.
Our next two nights were at the Venetian. Again, we had a special invite which included the following: 2 complimentary nights, $50 for meals, 2 gondola tickets and $300.00 in free play. YES, $300 dollars. Please believe me we do not take a large amount of money but both of us play slots and we pretty much play where we stay so we put a lot of hours on our card. This offer was the best we have ever gotten. After checking in we went to the players card booth and they put $300 put on my husband's card. Here, we do not have a joint account. I play on his card. The play was restricted to one machine so we looked for a $1 machine that payed a bonus. We found a Double 7 machine and at the end of the run we collected $518. We were so excited and couldn't believe our good fortune. We recommend the Express Breakfast Buffet in the Grand Lux. Because of our budget, we do not eat at any of the fancy restaurants. The Grand Lux has a great variety and prices are fair. We took advantage of the Gondola ride and it was a fun experience. The rooms at the Venetian are great - suites. I'm sure that we get the lower end rooms but to us they are great. We have found the service excellent. Slot machines at Wynn's and Venetian were not as tight as Harrah's. We made a comeback. Didn't bring back all that we took but considering 7 days in Vegas we were happy to re-deposit over half of what we took.
Most of our meals during our trips are at Harrah's (Total Rewards benefit). However, we do enjoy a steak dinner at Imperial Palace (IP) and eat at the coffee shops at Treasure Island and Flamingo. Usually we spend two nights at NYNY and we missed the casino this trip since we stayed at the other end of the strip. NYNY is one our favorite casinos as have good luck there. Husband likes playing the Elvis slots. The America restaurant is one of our favorites. I also recommend the bread pudding at the Nine Fine Irishmen Restaurant at NYNY.
Some other casinos that we patronized or have been there recently are: Imperial Palace - slots are varied but found them tight; casino still dirty; Mirage - not too many new slots; get offers to stay there but never have. Might do it in the future as we hear the rooms are nice. Restaurants and buffet are good. Disappointed at the arrangement of slots at TI - remodeling still taking place. Caesars, I love but it is just too big. Bellagio - can't beat the Conservatory and the Fountains. Husband really likes their Racebook too. Poker area really expanded. Green Valley - been once when we had a car. Not easy to get there unless you have a car. It is a wonderful casino - almost anything you want is there. NYNY - one of our favorites. Monte Carlo has a very good coffee shop and a variety of slot machines. I still cannot get excited about MGM although the lions are fun to watch. I think it is one of the few casinos that is overrated. Flamingo - always a treat to see the flamingos, ducks and penguins. Service is a little erratic.
Some nickel and penny machines that I had luck with were: Cleopatra, Sun & Moon, Hoot Loot, Carnival of Mystery, Queen of Nile, Turkey Shoot, Gambling Jack (at Harrah's), Mystical Mermaids, Hexbreaker and Wheel of Fortune (Penny & Nickel). I also won $70 on a I Love Lucy machine at Bellagio's.
