This week's Topic Of The Week comes from Ralph:

You're at a table game and notice cheating going on.
What would you do? Ignore it, tell the dealer,
tell the pit boss, change tables?

I'd leave the table. Safer that way.

Either leave if it was becoming uncomfortable or ignore it. But NEVER would I report it. That's what security is for.

If I suspected someone of cheating, I would surreptitiously notify a supervisor; he or she would then notify security. If cheating were confirmed, they would take appropriate action. There is no need to put your own safety in jeopardy; but it is in gamblers' interest to rid casinos of cheaters.

I'm not one of those people who turns a blind eye to injustice. If I am playing poker and I observe obvious cheating behaviour, I'm going to get VERY LOUD. At other games like craps or blackjack,(which I don't play) if I saw someone stealing chips, I would leave the table and immediatley notify security.

crime such as cheating. So, either not notice it or report it. If you report it you may be called to testify, and the cheater and his friends will get to know your name and address. The casino will not protect, and c/n comp you. Remember the casino's are the biggest cheaters.

After going to Vegas for years and experiencing some of the casinos that sweat money on table games, I would never rat a cheater out if I saw one. I have reasons for this.

My main reason is just to get even with the casinos for those people whom they don't like that win that play legitly.

Second reason: I have played blackjack legitly using professional advantage play methods and have been watched like a hawk, even got backed off from one casino last summer. Thier excuse for asking me to leave was "We don't like how you bet from $5 to $25 to $40 to $75 and that's it". So I guess your IQ has to be 0 to play their games and you are not allowed to use your brain?

I've also whitnessed and read reoprts of people being asked to leave because they were winning alot of money by simply luck, using no methods or rhyme or reason to play these games.

Third reason: Casinos alway have home field advantage vs the player. This means they can adjust the rules on any of their games. Some examples of this are: 6:5 blackjack, continuous shuffle machines, no double down after split, no mid shoe entry, take away the good games on the main floor and move them to the high rollers pit, etc.

Also keep in mind casinos are considered "private property" and they can ask any player to leave at their disgression. I got told this by casino personell last summer when I was told I may not play blackjack anymore in that certain casino.

Last but not least: The state makes alot of money each month off of all these casinos in taxes. In my opinion I truly believe since the casinos are big money source for the state that the state allows them to do whatever they want to. I don't like when people are an exception to the rule. Lets play fair... no free passes.

I'm usually so busy focusing on my own chips and my part in the game that I probably wouldn't notice what was going on unless security grabbed someone. I'd be the blind witness who's no help to anyone because I haven't seen or heard a thing. What? Cheating? Where?

If by some chance I did notice another player cheating, I would leave the table. I MAY tell someone if I knew for sure that I wouldn't be identified as the snitch, and if the cheating was harming my play or just out right stealing from other players- but most likely I'd just leave.

Oh.. i would leave and i would also say something to the pit-boss and he would probably know it already, i am thinking. i still would say something.

i was once very uncomfortable sitting at a bar, near a man who behavior was very strange and signaled for a SG who assured me that he was being watched already. becuz i am female, and was alone, and even tho it was in the middle of the day, i felt much better knowing that he was being watched. as a matter of fact the SG stuck very close to me and informed when he had left the place.

"they" normally always know when things are happening.

what was the question?

This happened to me several years ago in a poker room. One of the players was tossing chips into the pot but never as much as he should. I didn't believe my eyes when I first saw it so I kept watching and the guy left. Then I told the poker room supervisor. He had missed it and was extremely happy that I told him. He said they will bust him if he ever shows up again. They really really want to keep the games honest......after all it's almost a license to print money.......

If I noticed it, and I most likely wouldn't, I'd assess the situation to see whether or not the 'cheating' was affecting my play. If it was, I'd make tracks away from the table. If it had no bearing whatever on my play, I'd ignore it and, if questioned, deny I'd seen anything.

A few years ago my husband was playing at a blackjack table where the dealer was dealing off the bottom of the deck.

On a good day, I would stay put if I am winning....If I am a smart player, I need to get up and go any way if I am losing......All things being normal, "If I am able to detect cheating at the table, security is already focused on the situation".... otherwise, my policy is to: SEE no evil; Speak no evil; Hear no evil!!! Somebody else is employed for securing the wealtlh of the casino....My job is to focus on my best interest!!! THAT IS TO MINDING MY OWN........"business". Belief me, my job is to FEED the hunger, give WATER to the thirsty and CLOTHE the naked.....and that is me...You had better know that charity begins at HOME!!!!! BELIEF ME, folks, CASINOS DON'T need your help....just YOUR MONEY, honey! BY the way, has any of you ever heard of a casino filing for Chapter 11 or 13? Gene

My first instinct would be to tell since cheating is the same as stealing and I hate a thief but after reading some of the answers to the question, I am not sure. I had never thought about a person being part of a group and finding out my name, address etc....I couldn't put my family in danger.

I walk. Quickly. Security with the "eye in the sky" will get 'em and being on vacation...I'll not want to get involved.

Interesting question. What makes it so interesting to me, is the fact that I read this same question some where else a year or so ago.

It depends on what kind of cheating the person is doing. Did he see the dealer's cards? That ain't cheating, but good observation. Did the dealer miss-count the player's cards and pay him off when he shouldn't have? Dealer's mistake. That ain't cheating.

Did he bring his own cards to the table? Damn right I'd rat him out.

I'm not real sure how you could cheat at a table now days. But if the person is taking advantage of the house's mistakes, I figure more power to him/her! Don't they cheat by stacking the odds against us? :)

Unbelievable, but I suppose given the prevailing head in the sand mentality in this country, I shouldn't be amazed at the responses thus far . . . . . . Don't tell the dealer, because he/she might be in on it. Get the pit boss over to you and tell him. Right then and there . . . . What do people tell their children to do when they see cheating? FYI, a player cheating doesn't screw up your hand any more than a lousy player "gets" the card you should have had or passes on the card you should have had. I've seen very good players "get" my card. . . . Play good strategy, and nothing the other players do impacts your hand. . .

Unless you are a trained professional of casino "cheating", you could be witnessing a many number of situations. Such as an undercover sting operation(they could have the Supervisor as the suspect), mistakes, the list goes on and on. I am amazed at the sheer stupidity of those who say they would report someone as a thief. You could be labeled the Compliantant, the situation could be explained away and then you are sued for libel or much much worse. If you have been harmed or KNOW for a fact that someone else is being harmed, that's different. If you are uncomfortable move. But no matter what the situation I believe the world would be a better place if everyone minded their own business!

I often play in Blackhawk, Colorado, where there is a $5 MAX bet allowed on BJ. So it is not a "high stakes" type atmosphere. We have gotten to know many of the dealers and pit bosses, over the years.

I have seen someone cheating at a table, and did walk away and let a pit boss know. If you know what"Streak BJ" is, they were either putting out a streak bet when they should have bet before the hand or pulling back a bet after a hand , but before the dealer was able to take their losing bet.

I don't like cheats and if they are willing to steal from the casino, they may be willing to steal from me. I just can't get into the its not my responsibility mode. A decent society depends upon us all.

By the way, several small casinos in the Blackhawk/Central City area have gone BK and shut their doors.

I would just WALK AWAY from the table as fast as possible IF I noticed any cheating. With my eyesight I'd be lucky to see it lol.

Ceating is to gain an advantage, But, a theft is a crime. If I saw a person take someone elses chips when they are not looking, I would definately notify someone. Most likely the person that just lost the chips. Cameras would take it from there.
But, I myself will try to gain any advantage I can legally. If I get paid too much, or when I loose, do I tell them? Hell NO! If I am at third base, I sit as far left as allowed. This has actually allowed me to see the Dealers down card when they check it. (must find a careless dealer for this one) I buy in for 100.00 give my players card. Play first hands at $10-$20 while thew pit boss is rating, then scale back if I am loosing. All the while watch for the PB to come around checking bets. Put out 3-4X bet while shuffles are occuring. Pull back when the hand is dealt. Re-buy at another table for 100.00. Only play 25% of the 100.00 then take the stashed chips to the cashier and get new $100.00's Do it again next day! This has gotten me free rooms when I go to vegas. All these things I consider cheating. Or increasing your odds. Don't worry about the casino. They will be just fine! (As long as people keep drinking those $8.00 water bottles that they leave in your bathroom!)

I would walk away, however, my husband thought he saw someone take some chips and he discreetly told the pit boss and the pit boss said he would have the "eye in the sky group" take a look at the tape. The pit boss told my husband to leave the area and come back a couple hours later and got my husband's name and room number in case they needed him. They never contacted my husband and the next day the pit boss wasn't there to find out what happened.

I also play mostly poker and have accused people of cheating, always right, to their face with the floor person present. I have yet to have to apoligize. At a table game or slot it would depend on who's fault it is. If it is a sloppy dealer flashing a hole card too bad train your dealer's better. If it some switching cards, capping bets, switching in dice, or something of that sort I have and will report it right away. I have gotten comped rooms and meals for this. The worst is some one stealing from players and that I would report to the closest employee right away. I also will dispute an overpay as quickly as an underpay. So in a nut shell sloppy employee too bad, a rip off artist report right away. Also if you are afraid slip the pit boss a note and walk away

I'd follow the cheater to the cashier and tell him I want half and if he doesn't give me half, then I'll go talk to a Pit Boss.

We just returned home from Vegas today 10/06. I don't play table games but Friday night at the Aladdin I was playing a slot when 2 security guards and 3 men dressed in suits came up to this man playing 3 line poker on the slot machines. He was all alone just playing. He had a player card in each machine running back and forth playing when these 5 men appeared. They asked him to leave. After much chit chat between the men he had to cash out and was escorted out the door. Evidently the eye in the sky saw something suspicious going on. Sherry
