Just returned from our September trip. Took Song out of Boston rather than fly out of Manchester,NH and was it a good decision. If you have a chance to try Song please do. Arrived on Labor Day PM and went directly to Hertz for our car which was ready and aiting. Off to Excalibur and a fantastic room in Tower 1 overlooking the airport.Over the years we have become friendly with the valet staff and they take extra good care of us and we take extra good care of them.
Food report for this trip. Each morning we ate breakfast in Sherwood Forest and it was always top notch. Service tends to be a little on the slow side but this trip it was excellent. Because of our play all food at Excalibur is comped. You just have to remember to use your slot club, which is very generous. Had lunch at NY, NY at Greenbergs Deli and for the first time in many a year we were a little disappointed. We both order pastrami sandwiches on rye and both fell apart. The only other "lunch" we had was at Westward Ho and this is one of the best bargains in Vegas(if you like hot dogs) 3/4 lb dog and a drink for $2.49 and by the way the hot dog is good. After eating your meal you proceed to the lounge for a free sunday and Elvis. Buffets are what we do most tof the nights. Quick review. Rio World Buffet is still a treat but getting pricey and sevice was not up to par, Bally's Big Kitchen is superb although a bit limited. Hilton Buffet was 100% improvement over a previous visit. We decided to give it a 2nd chance because we had a buy one get one coupon. Food was good and service was better. We did come up with 2 sleepers. Gold Coast, next to Rio is $4$ a great bargain. Food was great and the service superb. and a real surprise was the Main Street Station, downtown. This was a reccomendation to us and are we ever glad we took the advice. The room is simply gorgeous and the food was plentiful and top notch. And for the grand finale we dined at Sir Galahad's in Excalibur. If you like Prime Rib that melts in your mouth make this a definite stop.
Shows we took in this trip. Barry Manilow at The Hilton. This is where firstwife and I differ. She thought it was absolutely fabulous. She is a Manilow freak and I think he is OK not great and would not chose to go to one of his concerts. We had stage seats and I will admit it was an entertaining show and very lively. On the other hand my wife thought she had died and gone to heaven as did 99% of the people in attendance. We also caught Gordie Brown at the Golden Nugget. This is a must see. This guy put on a show that will have you hurting from laughing. He is a very talented entertainer and if I were you I would catch his act before his tickets go for over $100 per. If you like Danny Gans then you will love this guy. We also went to the Comedy Stop at the Trop and for the first time in 13 years of going to Vegas we were not thrilled with the performance . First two acts were very good and trears were coming down our faces. However the headliner, John Fox, was, to be blunt, filthy. His humor was below the gutter and he was mean to all minorities and women. Save your $$$ if hge is on the bill.
Now what do we all go to Vegas for? The MONEY, honey. This was not one of our better trips but there were a few memorable "hits" I was palying a penny machine at Excalibur when i hit it for 40,170 coins in the bonus round free spin bonus. $10.00 in $401.70 out. We also had some luck at Tuscanny. Tuscanny is a small casino on Flaming that we always enjoy and always do well at.
Side trip to Pahrump which is a beautiful ride out through the dessert. Did well at Terrible's
Returned home on the 15th after 10 great days in Vegas. Can't wait to go back in April after a long New England winter

I agree with your recommendation of Song. WE flew it direct to LV from Boston last and plan to do so again.

Your biggest problem was combining a trip to see Barry Manilow with a trip to see John Fox . . . . . . John Fox is one of the funniest men on the planet, but I can see where a Manilow fan wouldn't think so . . . . .

John Fox was absolutely discusting. Only those who prefer the seemy side of comedy full of sexual comments and filthy language will enjoy him. It was my wife that likes Barry Manilow not me.

Thanks for posting a TR - whetting my apetite for my November trip!

On that $401 win on the penny machine - were you playing maximum bet? I wonder if you have to play maximum to win anything over 50 bucks.

I get discouraged on penny machines. I put in 20, and it seems at most I get up 20 (40 total) but mostly just go down slowly. I don't play max bet. That makes the money go even faster!

Penny machine have been good to my wife and me. We usually play $20.00 and play either 15 or 20 lines X 2 credits. Maybe it's us but we seem to do better on newer machines. This past trip Sherwood Forest and Seal Slide (Big hit was on this machine)treated us well. KABOOM was another machine that was freindly. Hoot Line at Excalibur was good to me but only at Excalibur. I tried it a few other places and went down faster than the Titanic.
