Steve,

I want to start off by saying people shouldn't be so upset with Harrah's only keeping your points active for six months; Wynn only keeps them on record for 60 days. If you aren't back in Vegas in two months; they are gone. Their standard reply is, "That's how we do it."

Now on with my trip report. The third week of June, we received, by mail, an invitation to stay free for two nights at Wynn Las Vegas. But the dates were June 26th to June 29th. I called to find out if I could have the dates extended. I was told there was a printing error and the ending date was supposed to be September 1st. The invites were sent out before the mistake was caught. The reason we got the invite was because we happened to be there during their grand opening month, and they wanted to give those people another chance to see their hotel and casino without all the crowds. She was right, there were lines waiting to get in and crowds everywhere. One of the reasons we didn't stay long was because there were so many people. The lady was very nice, and I told her I would call back if I could put something together. We figured we would probably never have a chance like that again, so we decided to plan a trip.

I called back about a week later to make my reservations and was asked what were my dates on the letter. Evidently, if you didn't call and get the dates extended, you didn't get the free nights. Also, depending on your amount of play, additional free nights could be received. So reservations were made with no problem.

We left out of Detroit on July 31st. We arrived in Vegas around 9:30 PM. We took a cab to the Wynn. Our cab bill was $22.00, which seemed a little excessive, but they figure if you can afford the Wynn, you can afford the taxi ride. He did seem to go out of his way, as I kept seeing Mandalay Bay from many different angles.

We arrived at the hotel registration lane, and evidently our taxi driver stopped short of where he was supposed to because other cabs were honking at him. We were already out of the cab and my husband said, "I'm not getting back in the cab for a few feet." So he paid the driver, we grabbed out luggage and the driver left.

Registration was a breeze. Not that many people in line that time of the night. The girl was very courteous and explained everything to us. If we didn't want any thing from the mini bar she said, "Don't even move it." We didn't understand it at the time, but found out why later. We were told the robes were in our room to use, but the slippers (Mr. & Mrs.) were ours to keep. She informed us our hotel key is also your slot card. Not completely true, as we found out later. The elevators to our room were quite a long walk from registration. Our room was the farthest away from the elevator as you can get. But once we got in the room (it took some time to figure out that your slot card does not work for your hotel room), we were happy with where we were because we had a view from two sides. With the floor to ceiling windows, it was quite a sight, especially at night. The drapes and sheers were controlled by push button, the bathroom; very large with his and hers wash basins, the shower stall was surrounded with clear glass. There was a phone and TV in the bathroom also. We found out about the mini bar. You're allowed to pick something up and look at the ingredients, but if you wait longer than 60 seconds, you are charged for it. It's all weighted. You cannot get any of the Vegas magazines in your room, and there are no comment cards there either. You have to ask for them at the front desk.

I went down to the Red Card desk (that's what their slot card is called), and asked if my husband could play on my card or if he had to have a separate one. I was told because of new legislation, he had to have his own card. So I had one made out in his name.

We gambled the rest of the night and into the wee hours of the morning. After a few hours of shuteye, we were back down gambling again. We took a break and decided to see the pool. Again your slot card does not work there either. It's a good thing my husband brought his room key, or we would not have been able to get in. Very nice pool, but we just walked around to see what it was like. They also have section for topless sunbathing.

Around 4:00 PM., I decided to check to see how many points we had built up. I found that the casino hosts have an office right out in the open, that you can go and talk to anybody available about your account status. After my card was checked, I was told I was 106 in the hole. Now I was so shocked that I was in the hole, I didn't ask if that was 106 points or 106 dollars. I asked how I could be in the hole, as I had put in many hours on the machines. The gentleman said, "We took off for your room." I told him that was supposed to be complimentary. I asked him, "What if I didn't gamble?" He said, "We don't care if you don't spend one penny gambling; we don't care if you stay here and gamble somewhere else." So I said, "In other words, I was penalized for gambling." The standard answer was, "That's how we do it." I told him that we have stayed at other casinos and have never had our points taken away from us. Guess what his answer was? "That's how we do it." He mentioned something about us receiving $600.00 in comps and acted like I shouldn't complain about being in the hole. Hello!! Please explain what free and complimentary mean to you. How can a person get additional free nights based upon pIay, when the more you gamble, the farther in the hole you go. I decided to find out what my husband had accumulated in points. He had $55.00 so far. The gentleman did not introduce him or offer me a business card. I left there and went to see if I had accumulated enough points to get the two free buffets. I went back to the Red Card desk (because that is their promotion, not the casino hosts) and I did have enough to get two free dinner buffets. She swiped my card, and told me that I was in the system, and all I had to do was go to the invited guests line, and that they have all our information. She assured me that it would not come off my points (what points, I'm already in the hole), as this was their gift to us (yeah, just like the free room). We go to the buffet, find the "Invited Guests" line, and proceed to the front. I hand them my card, and guess what? They can't find me in the system. So he keeps fooling around and then he tells me I don't have enough points. By this time, my husband is furious, he's not saying anything, but I can tell by the smoke coming out of his ears. Somehow if must have been settled because we were given a receipt and allowed to proceed. We are at the front of the line and already told the girl how many, when she yells out, "If anybody in this line (our line) doesn't have an LP on your receipt, you're in the wrong line. You need to be in this line." Which turns out to be quite longer than the line we were in, as we were first. In stead of her saying since you have been waiting and were next to be seated, I'll take you next, she made us go all the way to the end of the other line. I look at my husband; more smoke. Not only that, there are four cashiers in four separate stations, which is fine but, the cashiers are situated in the middle of the lines, so people would pay and step in line ahead of us instead of going all the way to the end of the line. They would pay and cut in line. You guessed it; more smoke.
