Steve:
Just back from Vegas (August 27th). Sorry to have missed you. Took Southwest Air for the first time out of Long Island, NY. Was not particularly happy that there were no seat assignments but it worked out OK and the spacing between rows was more than other airlines. Stayed at the Grand Desert which is just georgous - is is so nice to have so much space - we had two bedrooms, full kitchen, two baths, jacuzzi - it is a fantastic place to stay. This trip was my call -- therefore we spent most of the time seeing shows. Caught Wayne Newton and found him to be a true entertainer still. His voice was faultering but his personality took over. He knows how to please a crowd. Larry Jones was great - he is so personable and what a fantastic singing voice (I think he should add more of his own singing to the show). He is now appearing at Fitzgeralds. Also caught two free shows (one drink minimum) at the Boardwalk - a Motown group called Spectrum (absolutely fantastic!) and the
Purple Rain show (Prince impersonator). Both shows were as good, if not better, than shows I have paid big bucks for in the past. (You need to get there early to get a seat at the Boardwalk.) Also saw Jay White as Neil Diamond (again) - a really fun show! What talented people all the performers are! The highlight of the trip was seeing the Grass Roots at the Alladin. This was truly the show of shows. I only ordered the tickets at Ticketmaster after arriving so, of course, got seats in the back (the room was not huge, so it was OK). Just before the show began, a hostess came and asked us if we wanted to move up. She escorted us to front row, center. It was unbelievable! They sounded just like their records and also had a very nice way about them persona-wise. Also saw We Will Rock You -- if you like Queen, you will love this show. Just don't be expecting a literary masterpiece. As always, spent a bit of time eating at Harrah's (the buffet is not huge but always
fresh and consistent) and my favorite, the Alladin (buffet top-end with things like hearts of palm and watercress).
Can't wait to go back!
