View Full Version : Trip Report: Bad Experience

Just returned from Vegas...and for the first time did not enjoy the trip. We were booked at the Gold Coast for 5 nights, but one night was enough. I got bitten up by bugs, and the welts were very visible. When I went to the front desk to complain I was told the manager was not in but that they would get a supervisor for me. After waiting about 15 to 20 min. because he could not be located, I spoke to a Jim Silcox. This man should not be in charge of customer service...he could care less what had happened. I understand some people make mountains out of mole hills, but I showed this man my bite welts...and his attitude was that he could care less. He just said we didn't have to pay for the night... BIG WOW!!! I told him we were not staying and we wanted to go to the Orleans. He called and made the arrangements. Never once did he apoligize for the incident, say he would check into the matter, or anything. I even had to ask for a copy of the cancelled billing for the first night. I wish I knew where else I could compain about this guy, he acted terrible towards us. I made a report with security. If anyone knows who else I can contact on this matter please e-mail me. Oh, by the way, the stay at the Orleans was excellent!

Just e-mail the hotel and I'll bet you get some response. Most major hotels are very concerned with their image

I agree with Tryon. I am sure somewhere on their website is a list of the hotel management. My suggestion is that you address your letter to the CEO and send copies of the letter to VP of Marketing and Customer Relations and also the Manager of Hotel Operations (or similar department). Always send your letter to more than one person in management. Send one to the Better Business Bureau in Vegas too. Make sure you show the list of people you sent the letter to at the bottom of the letter (cc).
Sorry that happened to you. Their housekeeping staff should be looking for things like that and do some regular pest spraying as well. Make sure you request some consideration for your inconvenience (with the exception of getting a free room at the Gold Coast.)
Let us know the outcome.

You aren't the first member to experience this problem. Another member posted something along the same lines in the Members Corner a while back, including the same Customer Service complaint.

To the gentleman who had a bad experience at the Gold Coast, I suggest writing a letter to the General Manager. It might do some good. I find I always get a reply right away from the General Manager when a write a complimentary letter, but it takes longer when you write a derogatory letter.

Ouch - sounds like a horrible experience. The Gold Coast was on my list to try someday - now maybe not.
I hope this isn't bad vibes coming out of the recent purchase of Coast Casinos... by Boyd Gaming. Seems too early for that to be occurring, though.
I always have a great stay at the Orleans, though.

Steve,
You say you did not post this. Did it actually happen to you or some other member? Please answer as we stay at Gold Coast. Never again if this really happened. How awful!

This was posted by another member, not by me. I never stayed at the Gold Coast. We are trying to figure this one out.

Steve, I was wondering why you were staying at Gold Coast and not IP.
Someone must have been able to log in under your name??
For the original poster (who are you, by the way?)
Sorry about your experience. Bed bugs are making a big comeback on everything from cruise ships to hotels of all types and sizes - luxury, small places, it does not matter.
So I would not write off the Gold Coast because of the bed bugs - but I WOULD write them off because of their less than caring response.
Here is something to check out. Did you put your suitcases on the bed at Gold Coast? If you did, keep an eye out at home for the critters. They are notorious hitchhikers. (Which of course may mean that you took them to the Orleans, too! )

That's almost impossible as they would have had to know my eight-digit password.
Stranger things have happened I guess and now I have a new password.

Do you have a hacker who was just attempting to prove that he/she could post anything that they wanted under someone else's name??

Hello
I have stayed at the Gold Coast at least 20 times, this is new to me, but I'am going to call them and ask about this problem and tell them this was posted on the internet, we are going this summer and plan on staying there, I don't like bugs, the rooms are average, but you get what you pay for, I like the price of the rooms there, thats why I stay there.

Bed bugs...Ouch. We ran into that in a brand new hotel in Lousianna while attending a funeral at the first of this year. Painful bites.
As far as the Gold Coast goes, let me say that we stayed there 4 nights for the first (and last time) in January. No bugs that I am aware of, but the most awful bed we have ever stayed had in any Las Vegas hotel. The check-in staff was not interested in our room preference and we ended up on the back side with a lovely view of the parking lot from which we received the fumes of the big trucks parked and running under the window (the window is in the bathtub, of all places). We had to open that little window so that we could breathe in the 4x6 bathroom! Tip....go into the bathroom, shut the door and THEN sit down on the toilet because you won't be able to shut the door if you sit first, without knocking your knees off.
In all fairness to someone at the hotel, they did mail my phone charger back to me without any charge.......I think, better check that credit card receipt again!!
Going back to Vegas at the end of the month, staying at the Gold Nugget downtown again. Great beds.

Heard a story on the radio this morning about a lady who is sueing a hotel (not in vegas) for 20 Million Dollars because of bed bugs. Maybe something like that will get the other hotels to "clean up" their act.

To whoever posted this - #1 you need to find out who the GM and the VP of Marketing at Gold Coast - send them letter and #2 indicate you will write a letter to Boyd Gaming and the Health Dept. This is not anything to mess around with and should be handled by the Health Dept. This would be the County not City of Vegas. Anyone staying at Gold Coast I would check first with Health Dept and verify that there are no further problems. This is really bad and Boyd Gaming should make amends good luck.

I just finished an article about the little creatures. Seems they are making a comeback after almost being extinct. Always check the bed prior to laying down. Most major hotels have mattress covers. If your bed does not call housekeeping and ask for one. Any grief and contact management.

We once wrote a letter to the GM of the IP in Biloxi regarding a matter of false advertising. We had the option of going to the gaming commission but instead tried to see what would happen if we worked it out with the GM.
Within 48 hours we received a personal phone call and ever since have been comped full RFB.
I'm not saying that this would work in every case, but the power of a letter to the GM of a property can work wonders and I highly recommend it.

The original post that had my name on it was a true trip report. Somehow due to a computer glitch, my name was attached to the post. The report was NOT bogus so I deceided to let the post and replies addressing the subject of the post to remain up. We are still trying to determine how this happened.
Your original post was deleted due to the fact that I felt it was on the inflammatory side similiar to the one you posted today.
I am sorry if you felt differently.

See, what it is, Muggs, is a MAJOR CONSPIRACY. Remember, Steve has a connection at the Imperial Palace. IP was just purchased by the EVIL EMPIRE  (aka, Harrahs). The evil Empire has BRAINWASHED Steve into THINKING he stayed at the Gold Coast. Steve’s buddy at the IP is really a double agent. He planted the bed bugs, which are really MIND CONTROLLING IMPLANT NANOBOTS  on Steve to infiltrate the GOLD COAST, thus infecting ALL FUTURE GOLD COAST GUESTS with the implants. The implants provide a subliminal message to the host humans that FORCE them to ONLY play at Harrah’s properties, thus crushing the Coast Casinos. Soon, all of the Coast Properties will be empty of all gamers and guests. Coast will then be forced to sell sell sell all of their properties to the EVIL EMPIRE at rock bottom prices. AND THE EVIL EMPIRE WILL CONTINUE TO DESTROY THE ONCE DIVERSE LANDSCAPE OF LAS VEGAS!!!!
The Truth Is Out There!!!

I would suggest your password immediately. I think the only way this could happen is if your password as admin was breached.
As noted in previous posts I did change my password and this is simply a computer glitch. There is NO security breach. I may be removing the entire thread real soon.

It is so easy for computers to mess up like this sometimes. I think Bosco's post is pretty funny. He, like most of us in my opinion, have realised that these things can happen and that it's not anything sinister - Bosco is just having a bit of fun so that people can see that. Computers aren't infallible guys ... errors can happen.

Steve -
Sorry if my first post was "inflammatory".
But I felt this Trip Report was more "inflammatory"
in nature than my reply !
Internet untruths have a way of growing and spreading.
And my concern, was the lack of concern shown by the replies
posted.
The "unquestioning" nature of the replies was somewhat
frightening to me.
Your security was breached. Would mine be next ?
No one seemed to care.
I care.
A "wake up" call was in order from my point of view.
From now on.........I won't care.
I am new here........I am sorry.

<<<<But I felt this Trip Report was more "inflammatory">>>
Im my opinion, the Trip Report was factual as another member expressed this same problem at another time. You used the term "bogus" and I felt it was not.
Our security was never breached. This was a simple computer glitch that to this day, we can't figure out. I stated that more than once. There has not been another glitch since this and I don't expect that there will be another one. No one has to worry.
I hope you continue to be a valued poster at these Forums.
