This was my fourth drive over to Vegas this year from the Los Angeles area. Note - saw alot of CHP giving tickets on the I-15 so keep it under 80 mph!
It was HOT- car temp read 109 as I pulled into Harrahs garage at 3 PM on July 5th! Luckily, Harrahs garage is so close to the Carnival tower, about 3 minutes! As I have Platinum status with Harrahs, check-in took all of 5 minutes, and got a room with a view of the Mirage volcano and a coffee maker, a rarity in Vegas rooms! Note: don't bother trying to use a Starbucks gift card in Vegas casino's -they will not accept them.
We could not win anything on the slots at Harrah's so braved the heat at 5 PM to hit the strip, but my wife forced me to stop so she could play a 5 cent Alien machine right before we went out the door. A 45 cent bet got her 50 bucks?, then a 15 X 5 bet another 300 bucks-luck and timing!
Walking past the Flamingo we ducked in as wife was wilting in the heat and played a half dozen machines as we walked through and won some on all! Plus was offered a drink every few minutes! Made it to Ballys' to use comp $$$ to eat at Changs-which is great Chinese food but is was closed, so into Paris to eat at LaProvencal, a little pricey but great food, service and singing waiters. Could not win a dime at Paris and lousy drink service so back out in the heat! Spotted the new Star Wars machine as we walked by Barabary Coast, and won on 3 of them! Back to Harrahs- could not win a thing!
Off to Terrible Herbst for breakfast buffet on Wed, which was 5 bucks for two with their fun book coupon, a very average buffet but cheaper than McDonalds and great fresh fruit, made to order omelet- a great value for the $$$ But could not win a dime on Aliens/Star Wars etc this time! Stopped at Alladins and lost our shirts trying to get enough points for "free" Planet Hollywood t-shirt, but then I played a whole bank of Triple 7's while my wife went for the shirt and won a $100 bucks! Back to Harrahs, could not win a dime! Went to Platters/Drifters/ Coasters show at the Sahara via the monorail which was so convenient- the Congo showroom is SO old , but very small size makes for great seats(we were TOO close to the stage) and a great show- whole audience was singing along at times! Back to Harrahs and could not win again! But when checking out the next day my wife was hitting like crazy and we left with a couple of hundred!
As it is summer, alot of children , don't quite understand a vacation with kids in Vegas, saw alot of security guards ordering parents to keep their kids with them and "moving" through the casino- no stopping!
As always, dressed nice (unlike alot a people who appear dressed to clean their garage), treated employees nice, tipped the maids, servers, etc as appropriate and was treated great everywhere we went!!!! Go to Vegas for the shows, the sights, the shopping and the food! Gambling is all luck and timing which is controlled by the RNG computer chip in every machine, so be pleasantly surprised if you come home a winner!
