Steve,
I am glad I got a chance to meet you with some members of the group at the Mai Tai Lounge on Sunday.
While my trip this time was for employment purposes (my husband and I will be moving out in the next month or two), I still stayed at casinos primarily because I had free nights for 6 nights of my stay, but also because when I am traveling alone I would rather be around people than away from everything.
My first night I stayed at The Golden Nugget. This was not a free night but I knew I liked the property so I stayed there. I really like the fact that room keys are checked before allowing guests to go to the rooms. The room was great - no complaints. The dealers were very friendly.
The next 3 nights I stayed at Bally's. The room was nice (not as nice as The Golden Nugget - but for free - very nice). I was very impressed with the dealers - very friendly. I primarily play Pai Gow - some blackjack and various table games - some slots.
I ate at the special at The Sidewalk Cafe - prime rib and Crab legs - This was not very good - not sure whether it was me or the food but I couldn't eat it. I do like the comp system for meals at Bally's - Paris by checking the kiosk and seeing what you have available.
I had a meal at Al Dente and it was wonderful. The lasagna and fried mozzarella I loved. I would definitely eat there again. It really would have been enough to share - add a salad each and it would have made 2 meals easily.
The next 3 nights I stayed at Sam's Town. I have stayed there many times over the last 10-12 years so I am comfortable there. These were comped nights and I had some meal comps so I had a steak dinner at Billy Bob's one night and it was very good.
I had Mexican food one night at Willy & Jose's. Their chips and salsa are very good but the sampler plate I ordered was enough food for 3 people and it was just way too much stuff in front of me. I had breakfast 3 times at the Harvest Cafe and it was good. I usually prefer a sit down meal rather than buffets - so I did not go to the Firelight buffet. I played Pai Gow and a few different table games. I tend to play more slots at Sam's Town than other casinos - nickel keno and video poker. I also played bingo several sessions - won $250. once and $40.00 once. I enjoyed the bingo but the smoke smell at Sam's Town seems to be stronger than the other casinos I had stayed at and by the end of the trip it was starting to get to me.
One thing I really enjoy at Sam's Town is the entertainment in Roxy's. You can hear the singers while your at the tables and I really like that. They had 2 different groups (one country and a rock - pop group). They were both great.
I usually hit a straight flush or royal flush once or twice each trip on Pai Gow and didn't this time - so no big wins. I gambled several hours at Green Valley and had a good day there. I broke even on Pai Gow but won $400.00 playing crazy for poker.
Once I become a local - I will try to pass on some good deals that I might come across.
I did try a Mexican food restaurant - ZTejas (Sahara and Fort Apache). It was very good but a little on the expensive side. Their sampler, chips, salsa, guacamole and Queso was $8.00. It was really good but if you add an entree becomes a little too much money.
