This week's Topic Of The Week" Question is:

Does anyone have a "good luck charm" that they take to Vegas with them every trip, and has it ever worked? Is there a special ritual you go through before gambling? Do you have any gambling superstitions?

Occasionally I pray, "Lord, if it be your will...let me hit the BIG one!"
Other than that, no rituals or goodluck charms.

Each trip must start with me packing my Irish hat and all the commemerative coins. Each trip must start at The Stratosphere. Once we did not do that and it was our worst trip ever. Next we have to find a machine that dispenses the coins and win one.
As I stated above I can't remember any great good luck but I sure do remember bad luck. I mean I don't think we had one winning day in the 9 we were there.

Before my first trip, my brother said he had a surefire way to make money on the horses and he had won big with it. So I tried it out. Since 7 is such a lucky number in Vegas, he said to go straight to the sportsbook, and bet $7 on horse number 7 in the 7th race. So I did just that and you know what? The damn horse came in 7th! Oh well, I don't rely on his advice anymore. He just got divorced for the 7th time!

My lucky charm is a 24 k Gold "Winged Lion of Venice" that I wear on a gold chain. It is the symbol of that the people of Venice Italy have adopted as their protector for centuries.

I once lived and worked in Venice and I love it's mystery & charm.

Guess what... it has not worked well for me in Las Vegas but I'm still hoping ... Hope is the patron saint of Las Vega .

:D I have a lucky?? dice that belonged to my father, also was told that crystal stone was a lucky piece so I purchased one many years ago. I always carry both in my little purse. I have won a lot of money but can't tell you which piece brought me the luck. I do know that neither one has done much for me as of late. I also pray the night before going gambling but God doesn't like you asking for monetary so instead I usually say "thank you God" when I hit something.

A couple of times I have worn my mom and dad's wedding rings, and have had winning trips. But the two times I won my biggest, I don't think I had anything special w/me.
Not in LV, but down in the desert I had a slot machine angel pin, won the nightly drawing and the next night, hit on a 50 cent Wild Cherry machine.

I play mostly poker. Sever years ago I played a small poker tourney in a St. Louis casino and once there, realised I had forgotten my card protector. I reached into my pocket and the first thing I pulled out was a Chapstick. I used it and ended up winning the tournament. So ever since then, I always take a Chapstick to the tables.

I had a good luck Budda that I would set next to the slot machine when I was playing but I left it behine one day at the Tropicana in Vegas. I had good luck sometimes when I used it but never any big wins so I wasn't very upset to lose it. I tried replacing it with an Egyption figure but it never worked. I found a new Budda in Hawaii last month but I haven't tried it out yet. I'm going to believe it's Good Luck until time proves me wrong.;)

This is going to sound strange coming from someone who loves Las Vegas as much as I do, but I really don't believe in luck! Plus it's too hard to try to keep up with charms, rituals, superstitions, and patterns! It's more freeing to just say I don't believe so then I'm free to walk under ladders, open umbrellas inside, and break as many mirrors as I want! :p

Yes, Hard work plus opportunity = LUCK. Those are my so-called charms.

I had to laugh when I read find a penny pick it up all that day you'll have good luck. I have changed it to find a penny pick it up all that day you'll have a lousy penny you can't use anywhere! One tournament I was in at the Riv gave 4 leaf clover key chains when you got the diamonds I have carried one every time I go and I can't say I am lucky because of it, but I have had some good wins. And I only play slots. I think they are fun and I am too cheap to play table games!

One trip, my son came to me and offered me one of his hotwheels to take for good luck. It worked great, lol, I won everywhere I went. It all added up to about 4,000.00 that trip. The next trip I couldn't remember what car he have me and he didn't know either. He offered another one and the luck has went downhill since. If only I could remember which hotwheel that was, lol.

Since I pray daily, praying before, during and after, are always part of the plan. Then I have a statue of Jesus I found working in my garden a few years ago. It was buried, and I dug it up, but the strange thing is when I went in the house to show my kids, we came out, and the hole was covered over, like I had never dug before. I take it with me everywhere, and in Vegas I put it in my purse or pocket.

I have seen people put pictures of kids on slots, rub the machine, rub the line, count to ten, alot of rituals.

Who am I to say if it works or not?

;) I am on a winning streak in Vegas so I have been staying in the same hotel room at the same hotel on each of my trips. Currently, I have been at the RIO and I request (and receive) the same suite. It's been a lucky room for me (and the hubby)!

When I see the same numbers popping up all day, I will use that to my advantage in video poker. In numerology, I am a number 6. I have found that if I start with a "nothing" hand, and keep just a 6, I will win the hand with anything from 2 pair, to 4 of a kind. So, find out what your "number" is, and hold it, when playing video poker.

Also, I have friends from the east coast, coming to Vegas for the first time this month. I plan to get each of them a rabbit's foot, and start their lucky streak that way. As for me, I have no good luck charm, other than my Danny Gans T shirt, because----"The voices in my head tell me what to do."

I always take my wife and have good luck at night.:D

Now if we are talking about winning in the casinos. You have to put the coins in heads up and play at 3 o'clock in the morning when they throw that switch to make the machines payoff.

Oh oh....had a lucky streak on last trip in March at the Flamingo & have been staying there for last few years, but next trip in September we're staying at Wynn's, hope that doesn't break my "streak." But I always take pictures of my granddaughters, a slots angel pin and my St. Anthony prayer in my purse. I don't pray to win, but always thank God if & when I do!

I've seen some very strange "rituals" (mostly done by women) on slot machines. I see them touching the screen & making certain hand movements over it. Never saw them win big, but I guess making all the gestures wastes some time & saves some money

I have a key chain from my daughter that has a small 4 leaf clover, wishbone, the number 7, a slot machine and a regular size $500 chip. My husband thinks Margaritas are lucky for me. He notices once I have had a couple of Margaritas I win at the Roulette table. Once I started with $20, several Margaritas later I was up about $380. The Margarita luck did not last to long I had to cash out and go to my room, to many Margaritas.
About 2 years ago we went with some friends it was our third night there I had not won at anything not the slot machines, blackjack or roulette. About 10:00 in the evening I decided to have a Margarita, after a couple of Margaritas I went to the Roulette table started off with $50 and after some time I was up about $400. Again could not win anymore had to go to my room, had to go to sleep. I know this sounds silly but, it works for me plus I love Margaritas. :D Will be going to Las Vegas in a couple of months, we'll see!

Hubby thinks he has to have a special dish the night before we leave or he will definitely lose. We fix a ranch style bean casserole before every trip. He doesn't always win, but he swears he will certainly be jinxed if we don't have it.

Now me, I know you are going to think I am weird, but I like to play during the last quarter of the moon or the new moon. I don't always win during this time, but my biggest wins have been during those stages of the moon. I can trace it back 5 or so years. I also like to play from about 11:00 pm until 3:00 am. That's the time frame I usually win. I have won some pretty good sized jackpots at other times of the day, but most have been from 11 to 3.

Now put this all together for our trip this past weekend, June 30 - July 2. It was the new moon. About 2:00 am on July 1, I won $1000. About 11:00pm on July 1, I won a $1950 pot. Around 2:30am, July 2, I won a $3600 pot. Then another $900 on the same machine within a few minutes. My mojo just seems to work better at those times of the month and those times of the day.:D

Since my wife and I have going to Nv. to give our money away, we both have tried some sort of charm or two. One thing I have found out, the luck is in finding the right machine to play. On one occasion, I went in circles betting all my money until I found my spouse setting at the same machine as when we first walked in. Of course she was up playing with the casinos money by that time. Anyways, she needed to be excused and so I played the machine she was on, and low and behold, my luck was there just not as to locating the right machine. So when you arrive, walk around and observe other players and how they are winning/losing and wait for them to depart. Hopefully, when you take over it pays out. I did just that at a casino last week and started with $40 and walked out with more than $5000. Good Luck

On a flight into LV a few yrs ago, as I was getting up to deplane I looked down and there was a EURO coin by my feet; that trip and all susequent ones have been outstanding. I use it to seperate my black chips from the others in front of me and watch the deck grow. Only at Tuscany they won't let me keep it there...but that's a terriable place anyway!

I don't have a good luck charm for Vegas, but whenever I travel on a plane, I wear an American flag shirt (I have a few), and as I step onto the plane I rub my hand on the plane on the outside of the door and say to the plane..."please get us there safely"! I hate flying, and these two little things I do make me feel safer. Silly, yes, but if I don't do this, I won't get on the plane!

I take cash with me. It has a charming way of openning doors to food and entertainment. If I'm lucky, the bills try to breed like rabbits in my wallet. Sometimes, they seek other owners. If I get a few drinks, the smaller bills tend to eat the larger ones turning the laws of nature upside down. Still trying to collect a respectable representation of the species for further study.

My wife and I travel with our little "totems" Hers is 'Monkey Boy' an adorable stuffed monkey from Russ (factory named Joy) who was a gift to her on valentines....... I cant tell you she has worn the diamond earrings he was the 'keeper of' very often, but Monkey Boy travels every where with her/us.
Mine is a very small Curious George who makes a great companion to Monkey Boy. My family shares in our insanity, each travels with a small stuffed totem, one sister has a "traveling fox" for as long as i can remember. Recently a small pink poodle was purchased for my wifes co-worker who thought they were silly, now she carries it on ALL her journeys..... And another co-worker has a tiny stuffed Giraffe who travels.
Monkey Boy made an appearance at a slot tournament last year, but no luck, hey what do monkeys know about gambling. The photos of the little fella alongside 'momma" are priceless. There are other photos of the two on the strip in front of landmarks, and they are quite hilarious, and we have seen other adults doing the same kind of things. Its good to be a kid, our kids tolerate it, and our grand babies love it!

Everytime I go to Vegas I try to watch all my Vegas movie collection in the week or so before going. It puts me in a gambling mode and it, in a way, extends my Vegas vacation. This seems to work with my luck, maybe it's just my positive energy, but whatever works. My collection includes: Vegas Vacation,Oceans Eleven (both the original and the new),Honeymoon in Vegas,The Cooler and several others. I don't watch any downer Vegas flicks however. Antway, I better start watching as I'm going in 1 1/2 weeeks!!!!!!

I am primarily a BJ player, putting little $s into machines.

I have no charms, but I have one superstition. I learned it from a man with whom I play bridge - it works for him, so I have adopted it.

If my cards have been really bad (and only if I am desperate for some decent hands), I put a facial tissue on my head  !! He uses a hankerchief, but I don't carry one (female) so I have adopted the superstition, and use a tissue.

It usually works - I leave it on my head until I am SURE that my luck has changed - at best it works - at worst, it gives all the players at the table (and often the dealer) a good laugh!!!

Because I play at primarily the same spots, some of the dealers have even gotten used to it - and it's great fun waking up the table players with this superstition!!! :D

I know, I'm crazy - nothing new, though.

I always heard (from my family, especially my Mom), that if you wear something "NEW", whether it be jewelry, clothes, etc...that it brings you good luck. Honestly, every time I have hit something good, I have had a new outfit, new purse, or new something on or with me:D ! It works for me, and most of us take new things (especially clothes) on our trips to Vegas. Just pay attention to the days that you hit, and if and when you hit remember to check your stuff and see if you have anything new on or with you!! I'm leaving Tuesday July 11th and taking a bunch of "New" clothes! Hope I hit Big!! And let me know if this works for you too!:)

I have a 14k gold charm bracelet that has charms I have collected over the years from everywhere we've traveled. I always wear it to Vegas ( and very seldom wear it otherwise) and I wear it on my slot pulling wrist...lucky, who knows ?
My favorite...just before I feed a machine, my husband, who is bald, gets his head rubbed and I chant "wish Stimey was a monkey" ( I'm showing my age....this is from The Little Rascals ages ago)...oh well, it can't hurt to try!;)

I always take my lucky socks. They seem to work most of the time. They are getting worn out and look a little ragged, but it seems that the moment I stop wearing them, the machines stop paying off. So sometimes I wear them a few days in a row. Good thing I have three pair of them.

I gave a couple of lucky charms I take with me. The first is an anklet my mother in law gave me the first Christmas I met them on it is a charm with my initial and an angel she gave the Christmas before she died, I wear it all the time when I am in Vegas and never anywhere else. I have to touch the angel every time I cut the deck, this works quite often.
This last trip I also have a pin of an angel my father in law gave me from my MIL's memorial service or something this past year. I also have a BJ angel a friend gave me, that I kept in my wallet this trip!!! So the pin was in the purse fastened to a pocket, the BJ Angel was in my wallet digging into the money and my anklet.........I did well. The last trip we went on prior to, I couldn't find my anklet, I lost and lost and lost!!! My MIL introduced me to Vegas and I believe she watches over us.
One other thing we do, is stop by the Hard Rock every trip. We don't ever win til we have been inside the Hard Rock.

My big superstition is no $50.00 bills used for gambling or on my person while gambling. I do not have any good luck charms but the best one that I have heard of is an Asian Man who thought that pregnant women are good luck and that he proceeded to give a pregnant woman a $500.00 chip to hold for him and he started winning, over a period of time he had given her $5000.00 in chips to hold for luck and wound up giving the $5000.00 to the woman for a gift for the baby.

This will be in my Trip Report.

If you are using the men's urinals at the Star Trek Casino at The Las Vegas Hilton, in front of you is a screen from which you will get a message from. Mine said "I would be lucky for the next 12 minutes."

So of course I played the Triple Double Star slot machine winning $120 and just missing the top and 2nd top jackpot with the last symbol coming one at the top and one at the bottom of the last payline.

Then while waiting for Eileen to cash in her chips I stuck a $10 bill in a penny Ghost Manor slot and on the second spin got the bonus and won $180!

Ladies, if you want to try this, make sure the room is empty :D

From now on, before every trip to Vegas I am going to Target and buying new undershirts, underwear and socks.

The night before my last trip I didn't feel like doing laundry so I went to Target and got all brand new stuff. Every day in Vegas I had on new underwear, new undershirt, and new socks.

I had the best trip ever and I won, so in the future the night before every trip is going to include me shopping at Target.
