Does anyone know how much the hotel & sales taxes are in Vegas?
Just found out that Priceline doesn't include them in your total - almost made hotel checkout a real disaster.

Is this 9% also the general sales tax? So if I bought a laptop for, say, $1,000, I would pay $1090? I'm actually planning on buying a new ibook and I think it may be cheaper for me to buy it while in America...

LOLOL Greg .... tut tut! :D
Thanks 7777. We do sometimes get hammered for customs tax but we are allowed to bring in items to a certain value before it applies. Although, they don't know that I didn't take it with me.. ;)

Thanks 7777. My present ibook is already from the US so it's really no problem. I can't wait for the 7th and I'll be sure to remember a diary so I can write a report - although 14 nights in Vegas may take up a lot of space on the boards! Hopefully! LOL

The sales tax in Vegas in March was 7-3/4% on items except food in stores. It sure beats our 15% Sales tax here in Ontario. 7% GST and 8% PST. Goods and Services Tax and Provincial Sales tax.

Gosh, we are lucky in the UK (in a way!). What you see is what you get - if a price tag is £10 then you pay £10, nothing hidden.
I checked out the County sales tax online and it is 7.75% in Clark County - one of the highest taxes in the State!

Hey Greg....One problem. My wife will be standing there keeping an eye on both of us. The saying goes "what happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas". With the scenario you just set up, it would be ME that had to stay in Vegas...or get left in Vegas, or something like that!

We don't have a sales tax in Oregon either. The price marked is the price you pay!

Is June 6th ever going to get here?

You can be a total cheapskate and order the computer online from a company that doesn't have a physical presense in NV, have it delivered to your hotel, and pick it up there. Then you won't pay any sales tax. Hotel taxes throughout the United States are usually really high. This is because politicians get the luxury of taxing people who can't vote against them. It really is taxation without representation.

Hey thanks for the idea James but even with sales tax, everything is still less than half the price we would pay in the UK for the same item! I just wanted to know how much to add to the ticket price. Thanks!
