Steve
05-01-2006, 03:55 PM
This weeks Topic Of The Week comes from CHUMP and BG and the Question is:
Which have been your top five favorite Vegas shows that are still active?
What is the next show you intend to see?
Easy Wayne Newton. He is a living legend
The next show will be Love. You can't go wrong with the Beatles.
As far as worse show it would have to be Sigfried and Roy. The worse $200 plus I had ever spend in my life.

Top two so far are easy---
Danny Gans (twice)
Mystere
Listing the next three is very difficult because we've seen so many great shows, but here goes---
Lance Burton
LaCage
Tie between The Rat Pack and Rita Rudner
Next trip out we have tickets for "O", George Wallace, and Don Rickles.
A few that might have been included but are no longer active are
Starlight Express (LV Hilton)
Country Tonight (Golden Nugget)
Enter the Night (Stardust)
Still sorry we never took the time to see "Sigfried and Roy" when they were at the Mirage. Always said "maybe next trip".:(
An impossible task would have been listing five shows we absolutely did not like.

Easily my fave by far is Blue Man Group.
Mystere is next.
We Will Rock You (when it was there - sad that it's gone)
The others just kind of bunch up in my head and jostle around for whatever place seems to fit for my mood at the time.
I haven't seen Ka yet and want to, but I'm getting a bit sick of the Cirque shows... they start to look the same after a while...
But I'll see BMG again in a minute! The latest Venetian show kicks it!

5. No favorite here.
Going to see "Love" this summer. Would like to see Ka and Legends in Concert. It would be easier for me to list shows I didn't like. I don't think any of the shows are worth the price they ask for them. However, I usually go to one expensive show when I'm in Vegas and for the rest of my stay, see comedy clubs or less pricey shows.

I will always have a soft spot for Wayne Newton. My first time in Vegas I wanted to see David Copperfield but my parents wanted Wayne. They won out and I've been a fan ever since of his. Second place was a toughie, but I'd have to say Tom Jones, with a close tie to Lance Burton (I thought he was MUCH better than Siegfried and Roy). Fourth place would be Rita Rudner. She was the first performance I went to months after my mother passed away and she provided a badly needed emotional lift. And last but not least, David Copperfield.
Louie Anderson is going to be there when I stay at Excalibur in June. I saw him once already many many years ago and am debating whether I'll spend the money to see him again or not. He was just ok as I recall. I'd like to see George Wallace, but after what happened when I tried the last time to see him, I don't think so. I kept getting calls from the ticket agency telling me that he cancelled and would I want to switch dates. I kept switching dates and finally ALL his shows were cancelled. I never did get any explanation as to why they were cancelled. It still sticks in my craw when I see his name on billboards and the marquis.

Let me start off by saying that the very best show we ever saw in Vegas was Liberace. Nothing will ever top it.
For favorite current shows:
KA
Gordie Brown:D
Clint Holmes
Tom Jones
Jay White
Bad shows:
None were really bad, but we were a little disappointed in the Wayne Newton show. It was not as great as we expected.
Next show(s):
Reba in July (got front row seats)
Elton in July (Got seats in section 4, 1st mez., row C):D :D
Hopefully, finally, Forever Plaid in August
Jacqui, Duskette8

Of course always Wayne Newton. Mystere was the most unusual and the one I talked about the most.
Years ago I saw Sigfried and Roy, it was OK,
I am thrifty and try to see a good less expensive show. One of them was the Clint Holmes show. I enjoyed it very much and would go again.
This past August we saw Toxic Audio, which is no longer there, but if it ever comes to anyone's area. Go see it.
It was VERY enjoyable. I can't even explain it.
The music was great and the comedy in it kept us in tears.
I leave for Vegas in the middle of May and can't wait to go again and see what's new.

A New Day - Celine Dion
I am seeing The Beatles-LOVE on July 3rd and hope it continues the Cirque high quality tradition.
I still want to see Barry Manilow at some point.
I didn't include 'O' in my list because, although it was a good show, it was too much of the same stuff, over and over. How many times can you watch people plunging into water without getting a little bored. Just wasn't my thing, I guess.
Also, I hope the rumors of Bette Midler coming to a permanent home somewhere in LV are true---I've seen her twice here in KC and would definitely enjoy seeing her in LV.
1. Jubilee - The premium "Vegas" stage Show
2. Blue Man Group
3. Danny Gans
4. Wayne Brady
5. Barry Mannilow / Celione Dion
Closed shows
1. Siegfried & Roy (#1 all time)
2. Enter the Night
Next show is not yet decided.
Will not go to Cirque. Every time we see them on TV, we are bored to tears.

we saw Celine Dion the other night (my girlfriend dragged me there kicking and screaming), but i actually enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed Blue Man Group over at the Luxor - I can't wait to see them in their new theater.
Mystere (Cirque du Soleil at the TI) was my favorite of all the Cirque shows in Vegas - "O" wasn't all it was cracked up to be and I was disappointed with Zumnity.
"We Will Rock You" was a pretty good. I guess you can call it "We Did Rock You" now...
I saw Howie Mandel a few years back - My girlfriend is still sorry she ever let me see that show (I often sniff my finger and stare at it in public - it drives her nuts).
But I'd have to say "Amazing Johnathon" is still my favorite - he cracks me up.

Our favorite five shows to date in order include;
Ka- Finally, some semblance of a plot within the wonderful, fantasy world of Cirque! We liked the storyline, good triumphs over evil. Moreover than this however, the theater in itself is worth the cost of admission. It must be the most technically advanced stage ever constructed! From the moment you enter its hall, you are enveloped in this production!
Mystere- The original Treasure Island Cirque production which opened the end of 1993 is still among the finest shows in all of Vegasland! The former Olympians who perform here are superhuman! The show, its music, the costuming, the imagination are all sheer inspiration and delight! We are here to tell you that you will enjoy it as much the fourth time as the first! Mystere is so exceptional!
Mamma Mia- We love happy endings and accompanied by the music, you will observe people dancing out of the theater. Mamma Mia continues to excel with a wonderful cast. This is a feel good production.
Elton John- He is of our generation and an extraordinarily talented man. Elton was born to perform on the live stage where he can connect with and move people. Leave all of your hang ups at the door, relieve the last 35 years with him and enjoy his outstanding and enthusiastic performance.
Danny Gans- Danny must be the finest impressionist who has ever lived. He is an incredibly talented man. We were most fortunate in observing him perform five years ago from the first row of his theater when he was perhaps at his best. We felt he was outstanding! He has endured some heartaches over the past several years and physical injuries which could no longer be ignored. He may or may not have lost a little but he had a tremendous way to fall to be an ordinary performer. We think his show is best suited to those over forty as he ties in the era of music which would appeal so wonderfully to that audience.
We will next see Phantom in June. The show has been reduced to 90 minutes and will open in a fabulous theater which the Venetian has built specifically for this show. We will absorb one of the most successful shows ever produced in a lovely and enriched setting. We look forward to seeing Love at a later date feeling it best to give it time to fully develop. We probably saw Celine and Ka, the first time, too early. Vegas shows may take a while to reach their peak and we don’t want to repeat our past mistakes. We have seen fifteen shows in Vegas and would be happy to see them all again. There are no bad shows, only those not quite suited for ones taste. Choose wisely and enjoy the wonderful world of Vegas entertainment!

This weeks Topic Of The Week comes from CHUMP and BG and the Question is:
Which have been your top five favorite Vegas shows that are still active?
What is the next show you intend to see?
Without question "The Clint Holmes" Show is the greatest. I have seen Gladys Knight, very entertaining; Celine Dion, a bit like a circus; The Oldies shows like the Drifters and Coasters, enjoyable for nostalgia sake; "Splash", a multi-faceted, face-paced show; and more. I want to see Barry Manilow very much and will see him in August when I return. But, Clint has the most talent and heart-rendering show out there.

It has been fun reading everyone’s reply’s here. A totally unofficial and unconfirmed tabulation of the five most frequently mentioned shows on an UNGRADED basis are; 1) Mystere, 2) a tie between, Danny Gans and ‘O’, 3) Blue Man, 4) Jubilee, 5) a tie between Celine and the Scintas It seems like the next show most wish to see is “Love”.
