If you could be anyone in Las Vegas history who would you be and why?
This could be an entertainer, actor, politician, business person, historical figure...etc.

This should provoke some great responses.

Old blue eyes was perhaps the figure we think of, next to Elis, when we think of Vegas. Just the first 3 letters of his last name is what made the city what it is.

I would be Elvis, definitely. Then if it were up to me, my wife Cheryl would be Ann-Margret! We would co-star in Viva Las Vegas. And that's only because Cheryl is such an excellent dancer, nothing to do with Ann-Margret's figure.

A close friend (who shall remain nameless) who was once the former SAC of the FBI in Nevada. His special access to real behind the scenes of people in Las Vegas stories could be interesting reading and explode many a Vegas myth.

I would be Howard (Howie) Weiner! He's the VP of Player Development at The Venetian. He's been thru all the changes of Vegas headed entertainment at the Hilton in it's glory days, bought land all over vegas when it was nothing! He's someone I actually know and once gave me great advice. Plus he's just an overall GREAT GUY!

Bugsy Segal. If I were Bugsy, I would have used a million or two of my own funds to build a casino; great business would have ensued. However, Bugsy used mob money; the mob thought he was squandering their money. They didn't have patience, or foresight. It led to Bugsy's demise. It's too bad that Bugsy was a mobster, since he certainly had great vision and a decent bit of business sense.

After Bugsy; it would have been great to be Ol' Blue Eyes [my wife's nickname for me], Elvis, Wayne Newton, or Bob Stupak--though Stupak did a lot of foolhardy things during his life.

Oh! Good question!

It would definately have to be Hiz Honor...Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman.

The happiest Mayor in the world! He tells everybody that and he means it too!

The first person I thought of (as others did) is Frank Sinatra. Or maybe Steve Wynn (without the retinitis pigmentosa) or his wife Elaine (the first family of Vegas) first besides you, Steve, and your Elaine.

Seigfried or Roy, They are able to live in Vegas and travel to other countries. They are truely blessed to have relationships with the animals they have. They have to be very kind, generous and caring individuals. It is refreshing to read about them or listen to either of them speak. After all they've been through the past several years. There is no anger, only positive vibes from both. I wish them both well.

Wow, great question, and a tough one too! Since there people I would "like to be", I'll just list them all: First on the list would be Frank Sinatra. He lived the life I dream of living (being Rich, good looking, able to sing and act for a living and he did a heck of a lot of partying and gambling :) ), second on the list would be a tie between Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal for having the foresight to makes sports betting a legal venture in Vegas and Steve Wynn for creating some of the most amazing hotels in the world. Lastly, I'd like to be Roy Horn, because he has the most phenomenal relationship with his animals I've ever seen. Honorable mentions go to Jack Binion, Bob Stupak and Oscar Goodman.

One of the Maloof family boys. :)

;) I would be Bob Supak. I heard or read a story about him before I went to Vegas for the first time. He was sitting down to eat somewhere in the early morning hours and the wait staff asked him if he wanted breakfast, lunch or dinner. He thought "GOD made Las Vegas for me"., and that was my first thought when I got into town.

I think I would like to be any Executive Host at any casino specializing in catering to the High Rollers. Love to meet people and make new friends. That has to be an exciting job.

Steve - and why is it that only high rollers fit into your scenario?

I agree that meeting people is of utmost pleasure, but the average Joe is worthy of some kind of good treatment.

I would love to have a part time job as a hotel check in clerk. Can you imagine the pleasure you could give customers that are kind, and the mishaps of those that are "not nice"?

Since so many others are not limiting themselves to one choice, I will also pick more than one. I'd love to be Steve Wynn, the man who revitalized Vegas with the Mirage, Bellagio, etc. I would love to be Frank Sinatra in the Vegas glory days of "Ocean's Eleven." I would also like to be Bill Roemer, the FBI agent who tailed such Chicago mobsters as Tony Accardo, Murray Humphreys, and Tony Spilotro.

With so many famous people being from Vegas I have a hard time deciding, but if I had to choose it would be the gorgeous Ann-Margaret. Back in the day no one could compare to her in beauty and talent. And today she has the looks a body those half her age. My husband wants to be Daniel Negraneau, World poker player of the year 2005 good looks and money plus he plays cards for a real good living.;)

I'd would be Louis Prima. I love the idea of the lounge act. Though I am young I'd love to be Louis Prima standing on stage have fun playing for a small audience and being friendly with everyone. Though a close second would be Dean Martin haveing fun on stage with the ganag.:)

I saw a TV special about past and present Vegas...this was a couple of years
ago. One of the people who spoke about Sinatra, Dino, etc, was an absolutely
gorgeous former showgirl. I figured she must have been in her 50's or 60's, but
she was so ladylike, interesting and very beautiful! It's just a fantasy. but I
would like to have lived her life at that most exciting time in Vegas history. I was
really impressed with her demeanor, style and re-telling of some "old Vegas"
stories!!! I wished they would have interviewed her longer.:)

howard hughes - lots of money, a defiant attitude, and enough nerve to do what i want to do - regardless of the consequences. it's too bad that he went nuts, but don't we all get a little closer to the loony bin every time we visit?

ask yourself - when you plop down a green chip on the BJ table, would you ever do that (over and over again) anywhere else but vegas?

For me it has to be Steve Winn. This is a man who has done so much to improve Las Vegas, follows his dreams and artistic talent to create beauty for visitors from all over the world to enjoy.

Jacqui, Duskette8

The same as most of you, Steve Winn. Just to be able to do what I want and when I want in Vegas. With the legal connection however, I would also have to say the one and only Mayor Oscar Goodman

Wayne Newton, in his prime.

I think I would have to pick Elvis too. But, I wouldn't have mixed alcohol and drugs, so I would still be there singing at the LV Hilton or somewhere on the strip. Gene - where is Bayside, WI? Sherry - we will be there the first week of October too, maybe you can share the millions with us????

I wouldn’t mind being any of the old timers. Sinatra, Elvis, Dino, etc. They lived an amazing life, much of which we will never know about. However realistically, I would like to be one of the winners who can now live the rest of my years in comfort.

Steve - I would just like to owen all the property that Vegas was - is built on - that would be enough, no need to own a casino!

(5/18/06) Well make my first visit this year to all my money left there in the past Good way to start summer!

Lost 40 pounds since Christmas and looking forward to a big big Vegas steak!

A 92-year-old Las Vegas man is the first person to twice win the top jackpot on a Megabucks slot machine. Elmer Sherwin won 21 million dollars while playing the slot machine a Casino in North Las Vegas.

His fortune comes 16 years after he hit a four-point-six million Megabuck jackpot on the Las Vegas Strip. Sherwin says he's already traveled everywhere he wants to go - so he plans to donate part of his latest winnings to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts and to share with his family.

He says he also wants to see if he luck will hold out for a "three-peat." .

I would have liked to have been Nick Papagiorgio. That kid had all the luck. But for a real person I would pick Wayne Newton, a fellow Va native.

easy, George Maloof. Steve Wynn would be good, but he's older plus the eye thing.

I think it would have been great to be Don Arden, the man responsible for many, many of the great Vegas floor shows during the heydey of the really extravengant casino showrooms. He had access to all the celebrities, the talented singers, dancers and musician that made LV the entertainment capital of the world when it started to boom.

Not sure who I'd want to be. There are more males to choose from than females. Mrs. Steve Wynn has a nice ring to it  or maybe the fictional character that Julia Roberts played (can't believe her name escapes me..is it Tess?), in Ocean's Eleven, this way I get George Clooney at the end..;)

Great Question! Especially for my very first post! I grew up in So. Cal. and
since age 5 (when a "kid friendly" L.V. was still a LOOONG way from being
utered), and my parents exposed me to alot more than the nickel slots (thankfully!) in those days. I saw Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy all perform (individually) before I was 13 years old! That gave me the desire to be an entertainer. Well, many many years later I began to follow that dream.
I wish I had started sooner than I did but that is a whole other life story that
I won't bore you with here.

So, here I am, "fudging" a bit on the question of the day because I can't resist shouting to the world that I am starting to live my dream! My show
is called "Voices Of Vegas" and I am a singing impressionist who salutes the stars that made Las Vegas "The Entertainment Capital Of The World."
Quickly, some of the "Voices" in my shows are: Dean, Frank, Sammy, Elvis,
Tony Bennett, Bobby Darin, Englebert, Tom Jones, Nat King Cole, Neil Diamond & others.

So....I guess my answer is........I'd like to be all of the above!!!

I have done shows very recently in Arizona and will be returning there in August. My immediate goal ??? Shows in Las Vegas eventually!

Bless you all and have a great weekend!

(P.S. I'll enjoy reading these posts about the Vegas Stars!)

Best Regards,
The Rat Packer

Wow this is a hard one. Being female, I would say Elaine Wynn would be nice, all the glory of being Mrs. Wynn without all the headaches of running those casinos!! And having some input on the decor in the buildings would be nice. If I were a man, Dean Martin, he was just so cool. I would say I would want to be his wife, but I am not sure how good a relationship they had!!
As for fictional LV celebs, I would say Sam (Vanessa Marcil's character on Las Vegas) wouldn't be bad, she is beautiful and has a dream job, top host in a casino dealing primarily with the high rollers, now that would be fun. And then as someone else mentioned Julia Roberts part in Ocean's Eleven and Twelve, Tess Ocean, being married to George Clooney wouldn't be bad.

Eileen - I have been an avid Ann Margret fan for too many years to mention.

I have attended concerts in Vegas (Hilton-Caesar's three times) - Miami Beach at the Fontainebleu. My most recent was at the Casinorama in Orillia, Ontario. I took all my programs with me, hoping that I may get a chance to meet her, but no luck. She does have a part in her show whereby she goes through the audience singing Viva Las Vegas, and I came within two feet of her. She is still one sexy lady.

All this to say, that, when I think about it, I guess I would like to be her motorcycle. What a way to reve up my engine!!

my actual dream would be to be able to own one of those beautiful estates just outside of Vegas but enjoy low roller playing as i have already made my millions by winning the mega slots!

Howard Hughes like. I would have liked to have put in place more of the pillars that are the Las Vegas i love today. I would have spent my money so people didn't have to fight for it. As a teenager i spent a summer, in Vancouver, B.C. Canada working near the floor he had taken over when he was reclusive and wacky. Never saw him but he impressed me with what could be done if you only stayed sane. He died leaving a lot undone....as did my body favorite Elvis. I was scheduled to play Elvis' younger brother in a film but it was never made. So much for my 15 minutes of fame!
