This week's TOPIC OF THE WEEK" question is:
What would you like to see added to Las Vegas and what would you like to see removed?

I want to see the guys GONE who stand and try to push their flyers on you about strippers and other garbage.....I hate to walk down the strip because of them....and they get so PUSHY.

We used to go to Lav Vegas to be in sin city. My late wife & I could gamble, eat drink, see some exotic shows, and have a fun time. We set our own limits on anything goes. This site just doesne't have that little extra zing. At one time the Las Vegas Powers to be wanted to become a family playgrond. It didn't work. Is our site affected the same way?
Gambling wise, the site should like the places with 6 / 5 blackjack, and make members aware that is a bad, bad gamble. These are great places to avoid.

I would like them gone as well. I would like the new room rates of 'trendy' vegas removed. And I would like a place with an indoor ski slope! I dream big. And Japan has one.:D

I agree with the post about the stripper/hooker handouts! I'd also like to see the time share & tour salespeople go too.

Im going back 20 years but I enjoyed the side game of keno while waiting on my meal or playing blackjack.
Bring back 3/2 BJ and decent VP paytables. The casinos are getting too greedy.
Cant the casinos trespass the hawkers in front of their businesses? If everyone who encounters these pests took a minute to duck inside the casino and make a complaint, maybe they will take action. Do the casinos not have authority over the sidewalk in front of their business? Then maybe the locals can petition their government (I think we are talking county here) to bar them from sidewalks on the strip. In Orlando, the city made designated areas where panhandlers can stand.
Personally, more NHL games at the MGM Grand Arena would give me reason for more trips to LV

Well my friend - there are enough smut sites on the internet!
Steve has a great site here and I hope it stays that way!
The zing in my life stays in my home not out to dry for all to see!
The street hawkers won a law suit but they are still bad for Vegas!
A gang just beat up a worker at one of the casinos - Vegas no# 1 in crime for the last 3 years.
I'd like to see it safe as it use to be!
JJ vegas 5/18/2006 can't wait
The stipper/escort pamphlet handouts must go. People that do take these usually just toss them on the street. Also the paper boxes that have adult ad papers must go. On the street in front of the nice hotel/casinos is not the place for this.
Also I would like to thank Steve for the member get together on April 12th. MATSURI was great. Everyone in the group was very nice. Thanks for the good time.

I would like to see a category added to the site devoted to the various players/slot clubs in Vegas. Discussion of benefits, how points are accumulated, offers, etc.
How does Harrah's Total Rewards program compare to the one offered by the Bellagio, etc.
Most everyone has or will get a players card at a casino.

I agree, take away the literature pushers makes a nice walk down the strip a pain.
More indoor pools for winter visits, and longer pool hours. I know it may not matter to most, but when you come from places where the sun doesn't shine, any chance to swim is a blessing!!!

I would like to see the "old Vegas" return again where gambling was fun and you could win and food was much cheaper. I am pleased however, to see the vagrants off the strip and not sleeping under trees but would like to see the spanish speaking workers forbided from handing out "junk" stuff that only litter the streets. Also a bottle law enacted when cans or bottles are turned in to the store they receive .10 cents return, we have it here in Michigan and has stopped litter. Thanks, Sherry

Like to see the criminal element leave the Vegas area. Everyone is welcome to Las Vegas but if you decide to commit a crime the Vegas goverment should kick and ban them from Vegas. We need more police to ensure people are having a great time in a great place.

An upscale, classy Adults Only hotel...no one under the age of 21.
At least offer a choice for those who would like a "kid-free" vacation.
Children, God love 'em, is who I spend my days with at school. And my grandkids are blessing.
But when I go to Vegas, I want adult leisure time.
I bet the establishment would stay booked!!
And I agree with the others about the handouts and booklets available on the streets.

I would like each hotel to have an area just for the $2.00 bettor. :)

I totally agree with everyone else that said that those guys passing out that crap need to be gone. All it is doing is littering the sidewalks, and it is very annoying. I don't understand why they can't charge them with loitering. If a person wants to call for a date I am sure there are plenty of ways to find that in Vegas without being handed a flyer.
And I also agree with the person who suggested the return of Keno runners while eating a meal. That was the only time I ever used to play Keno, was during my meals. I loved it. And I miss it now.:D

I would like to see room rates come down ,it is getting out of hand and a return to the days, which were not so long ago, when pit bosses handed out the free meals regardless of what you were betting but more based on how long you were playing. 5 hours at a $5 BJ was usually good for breakfast.
As for those who want to play Keno while eating, I know we did last year during Breakfast at Bellagio and Caribe Cafe.

I would like to see more headliner shows, at reasonable cost.
I would like to see those Soleil shows diminish. There are just too many.
And, it wouldn't hurt if they brought back cocktail and dinner shows in the showrooms. That used to be such a treat.

Snappers stay, freedom of speech, last week I walked past 20 of them and some how not one bothered me.
Time share folks can stay never a problem. Look them dead in the eye and don't blink. If that doesn't work and your a male and your approached explain your a condom demonstrator and you would like to give them a free demonstration and their personal assistance will be required.
ADD 20 ladies of the evening standing between the Flamingo and Barbary like there use to be years ago. I miss walking by them and getting an offer to party and then telling them I charge $400 for 15 minutes and offer complete satisfaction or their money back.
ADD a nice hotel ( Stardust, Frontier location no theme required ) with rooms for $75 to $100 a night that are clean and kept up. Put in nice clean and some not so clean shows, entertainment at a Fair price. A coffee shop, buffet, mix in Italian, Chinese, a steak place, not forgetting a few carry out places in the morning for a coffee and bagle like (NYNY), that are fair priced. A great pool, lazy river, with lot's of folage to sit under ( flamingo style) and plenty of lounge chairs so you don't have to get up early to get one (not the Flamingo style). European sunbathing for free. A gift shop that doesn't charge $10.00 for a $3.00 coffee mug. Attach this hotel to a fun friendly feeling casino like the IP but a touch darker inside like Caesars. A nice slot card program. Good air movers are a must to move the smoke out. plop down alot of slots that give you some play time. VP machines that are full pay. Have enough $5.00 BJ tables open to hold the masses. Throw in the rest of the table games to round off the floor.Don't forget a lounge act that rocks the casino floor .
Add a no children sign. AND put the DUNES golf course back. Thanks Steve W :-(
Take away, children, the real drunk person, 75% of the cars off the strip, and anyone that doesn't play basic bj strategy and refuses to carry a cheat card.

I don't think the "Card Snappers" will go away for a while so I would like to see a BIG yellow or red line painted one foot from the curb for them to stand there and not cross it when handing out their "literature". They are so troublesome that sometimes you can't even walk the sidewalk without running them over.

I would like to see less crime on the strip, we pay to stay there, and be safe and have a good time. people that don't pay to stay on the strip use it for other reasons. also I would like to see less game machines, and more slot machines This is vegas, people come to gamble and see the bright lights and walk the strip safe any time day or night.

A few things...
The paper porn pushers are blocking sidewalks and positioning themselves in such a manner that it is unsafe at times. Get them off the streets I agree but use safety as a factor for moving them away from these limited walking areas at least.
How about some payouts once in a while off slots. The hotels were built by these slots so why not have some win a few thousand more than once every million visits - if ever!!! I've been going for 10 years now and the most I've hit is $200. That is sad. Hardly ever see anyone win and if they do it's little cha-ching.
Finally, have some rooms available on the strip at $50-75 a night regularly at the Mirage, TI, Aladdin, Paris especially if you are willing to book a year out then reward people for that not charge them the highest rate you have.
Vegas has to realize that air fares are going up and people can find the gambling closer to home these days.
IF you want more folks there then give back some of the coin and have the accommodations continually affordable and pay out some more than rarely!!!

Chalk up another vote on removing the porn folks. Not because they're in the way, but because people pick up the literature and toss it on the ground. Too much trash!
I'd like them to get back to a few more themed casinos. There's got to be some good ideas out there. Enough trying to one-up the last ritzy place. Give me a new Circus-Circus!

I'm not sure if this will be considered adding or taking away, but I'd like to see all the cars banned along the main part of the strip. Then, once that's done, the busses, and trolleys could run the strip making it easier to get around.
As far as the glitz of Vegas goes, I much prefer Las Veags today than 20 years ago.
I'd also like to see Casino Royale go away. It's very out of place where it sits.

We would like to get rid of the Porn People. It creates an unsafe environment, especially at night. plus who needs all the litter in the streets.
I woul like lower limit tables, so that I can play. I am not a high roller and do not feel comfortable making high bets.
It would be nice to see the amounts the hotels pay out. Or at least which hotels are paying the most payouts. Seems everything is tight these days. There is hardly any excitement anymore.
We would like more enticements to come back to Vegas. Make the hotels affordable again. Let us earn some high dollar amounts on club cards. At least enough for meals. Maybe some vacation plans that include inexpensive air fares, sponsored by the mid strip hotels. We would also like to see some easy on the pocket shows. No one is worth paying $200 a ticket to see for an hour and an half.
As for the site. Steve, Eileen and Hunter, you do a great job. I thought I saw something about coupon exchange. I think that would be great! Let’s everyone get together and have one heck of a time in Vegas.

I totally agree with all the members -- get rid of the "snapping" porno literature handlers that are on every block along the strip.
Also, I would like to see a casino that is TOTALLY SMOKE FREE -- some casinos have a "no smoking" area but really don't enforce it and with the rest of the casino being a smoke area -- we are all inhaling second hand smoke -- how healthy is that? YUCK!
I would like to see casino hotels have a policy of "no children allowed" and that would solve the children problem in LV -- afterall it is an adult's paradise, Disneyland is for kids. (Hope I'm not offending anyone, but it's the truth.) :(

All the dealers with no personality need to go. Used to be I would sit at a table and play just because there was so much laughter and kidding...mostly brought on by a good blackjack dealer. My friend who has been working in gaming for 55 years tells me there is no real success in card counting or reason to deny mid game entry. So, how about tables for card counters and mid game entry for everyone!

Things to add:
Security at the elevators at all the hotels
More visible security in the parking garages
Good (not greasy) $.99 breakfasts like the old days
Looser slots
More reasonably priced headliner shows ($50 and under)
Wider sidewalk from Barbary Coast to Venetian
Shuttle trams in Caesars to get you around that huge place
Comped cigarettes in all casinos
Harrahs put in a better pool
Pepsi served in all casinos (big Pepsi fan here)
Things to take away:
Those "literature guys" on the strip
Traffic on the strip (let the mayor figure out how)
People who just poke along and stand in the middle of the aisle while discussing what they are going
to do next (especially in Harrahs)
People carrying on long, loud conversations on their cell phones in the casinos
And from the news out of LV in the last few months, Vegas needs to add to their police force big time. Back in the really old days when the mob was in control, there was little or no crime in Vegas. Not that I am advocating getting the mob back.
And the best thing Vegas can add is LET ME WIN!!!!!:D

I don't think we will see the end of the porno snappers. I just ignore them anyway (although it was hilarious when I saw them try to give their stuff to a couple of nuns). I would love to see a return to some of the "old Vegas" items, such as good, cheap meals, room rates that are reasonable to the middle class, and good acts in the side lounges at the hotels.

Get rid of baby strollers! Get rid of parents taking their babies out in strollers after midnight (or even 9PM). Get rid of parents that leave their children waiting in the aisles while the parents gamble. And maybe get the kids off the Strip, but in turn, they should move Circus Circus, or any other place that wants to attract kids, to a place off the Strip so that the kids can have a place to go.
I don't care for the porn pushers, but they are the least of my worries. In fact, I'd rather have them pushing their porn than doing some criminal act that they might be doing if they weren't pushing their porn (at least they are working). So, I consider that maybe we are getting a benefit from their porn pushing rather than a detriment. Except the trash is unsightly. So, let's just get rid of the trash they cause (somehow).
Get skimpier outfits for the cocktail waitresses. Or better yet, topless waitresses. Well, on second thought, maybe we shouldn't go that far, but it's still a thought. Can you tell that I haven't seen Suzy for a few days?
Get a good Chinese restaurant on the Strip so I don't have to go to Chinatown. And get a better Asian themed hotel (the Imperial Palace is just a bit dated). I thought someone was going to jump on the bandwagon after Rush Hour 2 converted the old Desert Inn into a Chinese themed hotel/casino.
Get a good tepanyaki restaurant. Benihana's doesn't count, even though I somewhat like Benihana's. I tried the one at the Rio, but didn't care for it. I ate at a tepanyaki restaurant in Fukuoka, Japan, and I've been looking for something close ever since in Los Angeles. Nothing!
I have to admit that I miss seeing the ladies of the evening on the Strip. Now that was free entertainment. But, that might cause some additional crime problems on the Strip, so maybe we shouldn't add that.
Get Steve to have more contests. Oh wait, that is neither adding or getting rid of somethin in Las Vegas. But it still should be done.
Last, put in a slot machine, craps table, blackjack table or any other gaming device that will allow me to once, just once, go home with more money than I went to Las Vegas with. The ATM maching doesn't count!
Mike

Hate the hawkers.... I don't care about the prices, as long as there are still
places that fit my budget, I don't mind skipping the high priced buffets!
Plus, when I go on vacation, I expect to spend a little more on myself, food, wine, and entertainment all included! There are still food bargains all over the place. No matter where I go, there will be places I can't afford, but it sure is fun to see those gorgeous hotels and casinos! No fee to look!:)

Las Vegas' high prices need to go. I can't believe that all the hotels are being filled to capacity with the rooms averaging $200-$300 per night on the weekends. The table limits keep going up as well. How many average joes have the bankroll to play $10 limits on blackjack and craps. Can't believe people are actually spending $150-$250 on many of the shows. With airfares and gas prices going up, I expect the Vegas casinos to start choking on their greed, since no one will be able to afford to come.

first, i have been to many of the gambling places in this country - and i keep coming back to vegas - there is no comparison.
the guys on the street don't bother me, i politely say "no thanks". i understand and respect their "right to free speech" (even though most of them probably can't read a word of english). now, if the casinos could, for just a few $$$/day, hire a few of their friends to do some cleanup every so often...
the hotel prices have to drop - i remember paying $50/night at the MGM, and no more than about $120 on weekends. there are still bargains to be found (like the Hard Rock for $79 midweek - well worth it), but you really have to look. i am only paying $250 round-trip from Newark, NJ next week - 1 month advanced purchace.
the buffet prices way out of line - the casinos aren't supposed to turn a profit on them - they are to get you in and out - back to the tables.
i remember when the mob ruled the city - the hotel's security forces was far more visible then Metro. one of my best friends is a Metro officer today - you should hear some of his stories - i just don't go to freemont street for any reason anymore.

what's with the monorail charging $3 per direction? i remember when they first built it - it connected MGM, Paris and Bally's (yes, paris and bally's were separate stops)
are the casinos so hard up for money that they can't support the monorail for free? i can understand the airport stop maybe being a buck or 2 (or $5). but between casinos?
my suggestions would be an entrance fee from any stop that wasn't directly tied to a casino, like the airport, LV convension center, Sands convension center, etc.
or maybe a free pass with your current room key, etc.

Ban private owned vehicles from the strip except for hotel entrances from closest cross street. Leave the strip for limos, taxis, busses and hotel or airport shuttles. It sure would cut down on time being charged in a taxi while idling through 3 light changes. Allow out-of-towners ride the monorails for free by showing a hotel key.
Im all for adding a players club corner. Lots could be shared as well as competition generated, since Im sure casino suits read these type of boards.
I with everyone on the strollers clipping my heels all over the place. A child care agency could go a long way by leasing space inside the hotels/casinos to offer a kids club (Kindercare are you listening?) Maybe this is already being done. I dont take kids so Ive never investigated.

I wish the hotels would make the signage better to the various places in their hotels and how to get back to the strip. They usually have the signs so far from the previous one that you have to keep asking personnel where something is. I too would like to see male cocktail waiters, and I'd like to not have to wait half an hour for my drink. Add more tables that have lower minimums and for the WHOLE time, not tables that go up after a certain hour. Bring down the room rates, then I'll have more money to gamble with, which is what I thought they made the most money on anyway. Have shuttles that go to ALL hotels off the strip not just a select few. And this is a great site/newsletter, but there are never member get togethers when I'm going. I'd like to be able to meet members whether Steve is holding a meeting or not. Yes, I wish they'd get rid of the porn hawkers if for no other reason than they take up too much room on the already narrow sidewalks. I'm concerned sometimes that I'm going to get pushed right into oncoming traffic.

I'd like to see new economy resorts being built. Why does everything being built on the Strip only cater to one class of people? If your not gonna build econo resorts on the strip then aside from Downtown resorts there needs to be another new development project started on the outskirts of the Strip area. Econo casino resorts with shuttle service to Strip and Downtown areas. If not on the outskirts of LVB, then atleast save North Strip for future econo resort development.
Bring back and rebuild some of the vintage casinos. The Sands, the Dunes.. and so on. I seen designs up on the drawing boards for vintage casinos but they keep getting pushed aside for tacky replicated ideas like Paris or Venetian or NYNY. Is Steve Wynn the only man who can some up with and create something brilliant and creative from scratch?
Following up with that I would like to see both the Tropicana and the Riviera undergo remodeling instead of facing possible implosion in the future. These resorts still offer reasonable prices. Lets keep it that way. Soon the Stardust and its $59 dollar a night rooms will be gone to make way for the new Echelon casino (modeled after Boyd's Atlantic City Borgata casino) and now room rates will be thru the roof (expect $150/200+ rates).
Get rid of that ugly obstructive Fremont Experience canopy. Downtown is pretty much all there is left of old Vegas. Yet, they obstruct all the buildings with a ugly white steel canopy for a cheesy 3D animated nightly show that doesn't even look that great. I mean maybe I wouldn't mind it as much if the quality of their production that appears on the screen was actually good, but it's not. Get rid of that thing.
I argee with one of the previous posters. I would like to see a casino with topless waitresses. That would be different. If not toppless then do like a burlesque style coctail waitress with pasties. Hey now.
Don't let Trump ever build a casino in Vegas. He can stick to condo's if he wishes but please don't build a casino. I like Trump alot but his only flaw is that he does not how to build and operate a casino. I been to all his Atlantic City properties and they are pretty much lame compared to any Vegas Strip casino.
Well, this is "what I have liked to see happen" Vegas thing because it might be too late to do this now that the Strip is almost all developed already (plus no one was able to forsee what Vegas has become today).... Instead of the monorail I would have liked to see them try to develop an underground transportation system... perhaps a subway that would run 24/7. I know it is expensive to excavate the desert ground because of the fact that it is rock solid but it would have still been feasable earlier on to construct the transportation system on ground level and build the street and casinos on top of that. These techniques are already used in some cities and in theme parks like Disney World and work well.

Another vote against the porn tappers.
Also, I'd like to casinos "fish or cut bait" wrt kiddos, with some choosing option a) and some choosing option b).
Either
a) Welcome kiddos and provide a kids area/kids club where their parents can safely drop them off and the kids can mingle with other kids their age and go on "field trips" with "counselors" (that are background checked) -- much like what the cruise lines do --- and hide enough of the kid activities that they don't run into adults so much. Allow the adults to hang with(and/or viewing glass?) their kids in these clubs if they like.
or
b) Don't allow kids at all, and take advantage of the adult theme in such a way as to make it attractive to folks who don't want to be around kiddos -- a little more sexy, and a little less cartoon like, etc etc etc.
I remember stepping inside the Venetian and just about the cast my eyes to the beautiful ceiling paintings and being approached by timeshare people. Straight away I thought - are things so bad here at the Venetian that they need to stoop this low?

If male cocktail waiters are added, I will be changing my pick on what I want removed ;)

I agree with the rest of the world to eliminate the annoying people who snap cards at you while you are walking on the Strip. As far as changing, it seems to me that the pools and jacuzzis are closing earlier and earlier. Some pools close at 5:00pm like the Orleans and don't open till 10am. That sounds like grammer school hours not Vegas.

Anything to reduce or remove the time share hackers would be great, but I know that will never happen.
One thing that would increase my enjoyment of Vegas would be if they widened the sidewalks. There are so many bottlenecks along the strip that sometimes you are in danger of being forced into the street into oncoming traffic.
Maybe eventually they'll turn LVB into a Freemont street-like area so that people can walk without fear of vehicular traffic. I know they shut it down for NY Eve and other occasions.

Definitely get rid of the flier pushers on the streets.
Get rid of half of the 5 or 6 cirque de solie shows that are priced over $90 a ticket.
Add more variety shows at reasonable prices.
Add (return) the fun books, the corporations eliminated them but those books certainly made you feel like you were getting something for free or at a value.

I totally agree about the Porn Peddlers on the strip.
Somehow downtown they have prevented the porn from being passed out on Fremont St.
The timeshare is a drag too.
Add more midsized showrooms and mid-priced shows. :)

Being from South Florida, I can tell you that there is no place on earth like Las Vegas! Great food, golf, shows, nightclubs, gambling, all tops and worth the long flight to get there.
From what I have seen, the town has become far too tolerant of panhandlers and hawkers. If they continue to allow that s**t, it will likely cause people to avoid walking outside altogether. Oh yeah before I forget, timeshare hawkers should be shot on sight.
As far as 6:5 blackjack, just revolt, don't play at those tables. Craps is a better game anyway. Or, try the sportsbook. Corporations are always looking to improve their income, and twisting the gaming payout is just pure greed.
My advice is to attack the panhandling and hawking problems through permitting requirements. Here in our county, if you want to solicite money on a public street or road median, it's $100, good for one day. So far, there have been few takers! As for the gaming, go to a different casino or switch games. You must be proactive or nothing will change.

dear steve and all las vegas fans,
i am heart broken with the all the old familiar casinos coming down, i will make my last visit to the I.P.on oct. 21 for a week .
my concern is where will my income bracket be able to afford to stay?
we are being forced off the strip.
i have 2 friends coming this time and it is their first trip ,that always makes for a lot of fun , i am using my players club comps for a poolside room, they gave me that for 107.00per nite for me and my girl friend , not sure if that was a great deal or not , i requested 2nd floor pool side for my friends ..so i really hoppe they get that . bye for now

The "Porn Slappers" (Every site I had ever been on called them this, until Steve started this site) don't bother me. Just walk on by. But don't litter, throw them in the trash.
Time Share people bother me very much. I hate to be rude, but sometimes you have to be.
6/5 blackjack and lower paytables on video poker have to go.

I agree, it's very annoying to be walking down the strip and somone is stuffing papers in your hand every couple of feet.
As much as I love Vegas, it's really getting very expensive to do anything, shows are astronomical, buffets are getting crazy with their prices. It's hard to get comps unless you're a high roller. The bigger and fancier these hotels get the harder it is for an average person to get any comps. A little less glitz
and little more of "old vegas"

I agree with those of you who want the "porno people" and timeshare pests
out of Vegas, but have you noticed that a simple head shake will keep the porno
guys/girls out of your way. However, on several ocassions, we have had some timeshare salesmen literally yelling at us as we walked away and said we weren't
interested! This is too agressive and abrasive, and I was shocked to see other
tourists treated the same way. Oh, and the indoor pool suggestion was a good
one, but I thought I saw a Travel Channel program about Vegas that said some
of the Hotels do have indoor pools for the use of their "whales"....any truth to
that??? Love all the suggestions....Steve, can you pass these on to your Vegas

ADD:
1. Moving sidewalks on the strip like in the airports with BIG SIGNS IN ALL THE MAJOR LANGUAGES THAT SAYS "STANDING ON RIGHT SIDE ONLY"
2. An ordinance that prohibits gawkers from stopping and standing in the middle of the sidewalks, that make you walk around them. $100 fine to each person in the group. Let the homeless have the jobs of policing this.
3. Seats in McCarran that would actually let you lay down to take a nap while waiting for your plane.
4. A HUGE clock in each casino with the proper local time displayed
5. A device you can rent that automatically cuts off "BOOM CAR STEREOS"

Like 99.9% of you, I wish they would get rid of the clickers/porn slappers - if only Mayor Goodman read the posts on this site maybe he would realise the hatred people have for these pests. I agree that is more the litter than anything else. But it ain't easy trying to get past these people either on a busy night on the Strip.
Remove the big money Moguls who want to come along and take away the vintage hotels. Keep the Frontier, Stardust, etc. That's what Vegas is all about!
OK. Rant over, LOL
ADD:
I agree with the genius of TJDEWITTIOT - moving sidewalks would be a wonderful addition to the Strip due to the amount of major hiking that has to be done! The heat certainly helps my bones but the walking can be a serious problem, especially if, like me, you stay in Vegas for 2 weeks. Hey, let's start a petition for moving sidewalks! LOL :D

(Hope I'm not offending anyone, but it's the truth.) :(As you said it is an adult paradise, and with that comes the vices that adults enjoy, like SMOKING. If you don't like smoking go to disney land. I am a smoker, but even when I didn't, I didn't mind other people doing it, especially in Vegas.

Will never happen:( I'm on the east coast and often get dragged to Atlantic City, home of unreasonable table limits. On nights and weekends blackjack starts at $25. Finding a $15 table becomes a coup. 90% of the people dropping their cash look like the could not bet at a $2 table without risking the mortgage but the casinos are still full. The greed isn't going anywhere and the new marketing campaigns look like they just want a trendier and more expensive vegas. MTV in the desert.

ty so much ;), First, remember to always use your players card. They are free and this is where the comps start. Go to the websites of the casino's and add your name to the guest book, they will start sending you special deals. Book early, you have until 48 hrs before you arrive to cancel. If the price goes down, you call and get lower price, if the price goes up, it does not affect you. Always, and I mean always, put your food and drink on your room bill, and ask a host(remember that player's card?) to take care of it. These are some of the ways to save. Are you ready for this? Let us create a corporation with plans to build a customer owned casino. We sell shares for $1000 each and use the internet to reach the millions of people worldwide that go to Vegas and would like to own a piece of it. We'll offer shareholders comped or discounted rooms depending on their play, and bring back the bargain buffet. We'll have moving sidewalks, cheap shows and $2 blackjack. Maybe an indoor pool where everyone could be naked if they wish. A women only section in the casino with topless male waiters and a men only area with topless waitresses. We could even have attack dogs stationed in front of the property trained to attack anyone slapping paper or asking people if they want free show tickets. Wow what a casino. I wouldn't mind losing my money in a place like that. Quick everyone send me $1000.

I have been going to Vegas almost every month for the past 4 years. Even in that relatively short time, I have seen a lot of changes and not for the better. Everything is going up...up...up, except the winnings from gambling in the casinos. When we first started going, we used to have such a good time. I personally have never won real big (I don't bet big, so go figure) but I used to win a little here and a little there and it made it fun. I used to be able to gamble my whole trip on what I brought with me added to my winnings. Not anymore. It just seems like they have tightened all the machines so that you just can't win! Most casinos hardly comp at all anymore and their rooms are getting sky high. Even if they offer to comp you a room or give you a reduced rate, they mark out holidays and most weekends and charge a fortune for those days.
As far as the porn pushers go, yes, they are a problem because they crowd and cause the streets to be littered. I just ignore the timeshare people.
I don't agree with topless waitresses. I think the casinos should show good taste and be comfortable for all to go to. I am not a prude, but I wouldn't appreciate being served my drinks by a topless male or female. You can still exude sex and be somewhat covered up. I don't smoke, but I do understand why the casinos allow smoking. A lot of gamblers smoke. If everytime they wanted to have a cigarette they had to go outside, it would interupt the gambling table and a lot of those smokers would just get up and leave for somewhere they could gamble and smoke. My friend who lives in Vegas told me that years ago one casino tried going non-smoking and went belly up in the first year. I don't know, maybe putting the non smoking areas at one end of the casinos and not right in the middle of the smoking areas would help.
I love Vegas! It just scares me to see all the changes that are not for good of the tourists. Too bad the casinos don't listen to their patrons on our likes and dislikes.

I think we need more security at the elevators to guests rooms. One guy standing there asking to see your room key doesn't cut it for me. With a big crowd, you can slip by easily, then you have access to all the floors. Anybody could be walking these hallways when you get off the elevators!
I also think there should be separate walking areas for people with strollers, bikes, wheelchairs, walkers, etc. so everybody can walk the strip safely! (I know this probably wouldn't be feasible) Now before you jump to the wrong conclusion...I'm not asking to ban these people!!! We're all here for vacation and we all deserve a good time, but I noticed how hard it is for these people with strollers, wheelchairs, etc. to get around the crowds on the strip! I had to push my aunt in a wheelchair a couple years ago, and I have to admit, it was very hard to maneuver the chair thru the crowds of people! A separate walkway would be good, but again, not sure it would be feasible! Just a thought!
Get rid of those guys handing out porn/escort cards. They are an eyesore, and they leave a mess on the ground!

Who needs to overpriced fancy rooms. I mean how much time do you really spend in your room?
irelandvegas
04-20-2006, 10:56 AM
OK,
after a long read of all these posts, I will put in my two cents worth.
The porn slappers really dont get in the way that much. Think about how many times you have been stuck walking behind some group of five or so slow huge bodied individuals and cant find room to pass. The insist on walking two or three side-by-side... How many times have you been hit or stuck dealing with strollers and other wheeled personal transport on the strip? I do not like the porno's and think the casino should have some one stand next to them and clean up . I feel CLOSE proximity by the casino would make them feel a bit squeemish. They do have a right to be there and I love our freedoms despite that.
Condo timeshare guys are more offensive. They are smart alecs who i beging speaking to in french, or tell them about my recent bankruptcy and eviction!
Fancy shows? well several dont like the idea of Cirque shows...... To that i say, well let the market determine what happens. If they have some and they sell out year after year, im guessing someone is going to see them. Ive enjoyed the shows, and those things cant be found in most cities, let alone a huge selection of them, choice is good.....
High priced buffets? well lemme tell ya. every time i go to one its full of folks with plates of prime rib and king crab. those arnt cheap. agian not too many all you can eat EVERTHING places here in the midwest that have so much to offfer for $25. I think i read Steve or someone say that the buffets dont make the kind of cash that we all percieve them too. any one know about this? Choice is good......
High priced hotels? The most talked about and visited resorts are billion dollar joints that will never charge $75 a nite all week and holidays. Folks who look for $75 a nite place are not gonna drop nearly as much cash in the casino as folks who pay $200 a nite.... Its a fallacy that if someone gets a $75 room they will then spend the 125 savings in THAT casino each day. They will stay longer or go out to eat or a fancy show, but i am willing to bet that the averages work better for the casino when they attract higher dollar clientel. For referance sake, we will be staying five nites at Paris in June at
about a 75 average and our big expenditures will be meals and shows....
I work in retail and often use vegas to start conversations and i gotta tell ya , the big gamblers are rare and many are like we are.... the whales get the headlines etc, but we little fish pay the bills. Chicago hilton is well over 200 a night and they havent put in a casino, pool, eiffel tower, and its cold here a lot......... bet my paris rate is cheaper than Disney.....
Choice is good..
So, on the remove list, after that little rant, I gotta say KIDS! Sorry to the mis guided parents who should be at disney or camping with little cartman. Our son is in the ARMY and is going to Iraq this summer but we wont let him go to Vegas till he is 21 next year. Implode Circus Circus. ( after emptying it out) I will miss the old places , we have enjoyed stays at Stardust. Take away the casino and it could really be in any city......
and to the poster who said remove Casino Royal? no way, those little places are such a nice contrast to the giant places, its a nice perspective! We stay at giants but love O'Sheas and Royal for what they are!
just some thoughts , thanks for putting up with me!
cant wait till first week of June!

We love Vegas and make about 4 trips a year. Things have changed alot from the days of the Dunes, Sands, Hacienda etc.
I agree either get rid of the porn slappers or make them clean up the mess those little cards make.
Bring back the lower priced rooms, after all how much time do you really spend in there? Just give me a CLEAN room and comfortable bed.
More security at the elevators.
Lower table rates.
I am a smoker. If I am in a no smoking area I will not smoke. Respect my rights, too. The old Maxim, now the Causurana (sp), behind Barbary Coast is a no smoking casino. If my smoke bothers you that much, you can always go there. I don't complain about the overuse of of your perfume or that you drank too much and are being obnoxious, I just move along.
As far as the buffets go, food prices are going up everywhere. A good buffet
($6.99) can be found at the Plaza. As good as or better than some at twice plus the price.

I love the Vegas of years past and the new Vegas. I guess I would like to add wider sidewalks for people trafic and more public transportation to help with the auto trafic. I would add a lot more "No Smoking" areas in Casions and eliminate it all together in restaurants, but keep it in bars. Second hand smoke kills, it killed my mother and a lot of other people.
I too would take away the porn slappers and time share hawkers, both are very annoying.

I know many will disagree but.....underage kids. Just for the reason stated by most of the other respondents, the "entertainment" hustlers on the streets of the strip. Also, all the other "adult" ads, billboards, hotel signs etc. I have two kids ages 10 & 14 and this is definitley NOT the place for my kids. My wife & I enjoy Las Vegas very much, but there are other places to take my family other than this very adult orientated city. Yes, there are family orientated shows etc. in Las Vegas, but with the plethera of adult orientated themes, its almost impossible to avoid them. There will plenty of time to enjoy Las Vegas with them once the become of age!

As the city of LV cleans up the trash, if they would collect all the porn "literature" and fine the "business" handing it out for cleaning up their litter, it may help. May take a little effort, to sort those tickets a time or two, but hefty fines may slow the littering. An individual can be ticketed / fined for littering, why not a "business"? (And I have never seen them in front of Belagios Fountains?? Who did what to arrange this? It's wonderful!)
Wider sidewalks are definately needed, the bicycle/cart drivers are dangerous to pedestrians, weaving all around them.

Added Kids clubs. I know that kids do not belong in vegas and I for the most part agree. However we have friends who live in Vegas and their house is not large enough for us to stay in. So we are left with 2 choices not visit or not gamble at all nethier is a great option.
Remove the street hawkers and here is a way to do it. They give the cards to everyone so run an under age sting a few times and go after them for contributing to the deliquancy of a miner.
Wow, what a coincidence. I had read this thread and enjoyed your post. Yesterday I was out of town visiting friends. At breakfast, a lady pointed out a man about 60 years, and talked about his late wife, and the man sitting with what appeared to be his children & grandchildren. From everything that I heard, IF that was you, I am envious. One of the major thrills of gambling is the persuit. The same applies to sex, or should I say a personal life, the chase or persuit is part of the thrill. I am ashamed to the detractor who bashed you. You are a good man, and I agree with your posting.

You pose an interesting issue, but I think I know why this wouldn't work. I recall that the handouts don't show any nudity (someone correct me if I'm wrong). We know what they're for, but having some suggestive pictures isn't enough. We had a similar problem in Los Angeles where there's a newspaper that had nude pictures on the front page (I believe the nudity part was just below the fold) so minors could see them. The city made some kind of law prohibiting this. The newspaper just stopped putting the pictures on the front page and just kept publishing like nothing happened.
But it is a good idea.

i am very much a proponent of technology. but i come to vegas to escape work, and accountants, and technology. i realize that the bar-coded tickets save millions of $$$ in mechanical expense and reduce headcount - but i miss the sound of the coins hitting the bin, even when you have to wait (again!!!) for a slot mechanic to refill the machine or clear a slug.
there is nothing like a $5 coin about the size of a sewer plate hitting that bin! BONG!!! BONG!!! BONG!!!
(sniff... gone forever...)
I'd love to see lower room rates, more $2-$5 tables on the Strip, fewer video slots (love my old three reelers), better VP pay scales and no more "porn slappers" on the Strip!

It seems as though we're all want the same things:
ADD:
Cheaper everything (eats, rooms, airfare, shows) so we have more money to gamble. We all have a budget for our vacations and once its gone, its gone. I guess the casino corporations have adopted the strategy that they don't care how they get our money, just so they get it.
I, too, would like more lounge acts. The Stardust used to have some terrific shows, as did the Riviera - the Riv may still have them. More than once I've gambled longer than I intended just so I could enjoy a great lounge act.
SUBTRACT:
As for the time share peddlers, our strtegy is to keep walking and tell them we're leaving in a couple of hours. They back right off to look for their next unsuspecting victim.

I've noticed they pretty much leave single people alone. I just avoid their glances.

Bring back the cheap eats and rooms. I would gamble more if I didn't pay so much for food and the room. It all goes into the same pocket. Also I would like to see more full pay VP.
Get rid of the timeshare jerks and the slappers in that order. I tried the leaving in a couple of hours trick and he said that wouldn't work and tried to pressure us until I almost lost my temper. You can ignore the slappers and they will let you go on. The cards just add alot of litter.

It amazes me that people essentially tolerate "junk mail" and just throw it away when they get it at home or work. And they certainly get spam email often..in fact, everytime they sign on. All you do is DELETE it! So, what's the objection to those people handing out flyers!!! All you do is say NO or just walk on by! Those people are paid by the hour to be rejected all day long. If they can just get 5% of the people they go up to to take a flyer and only 10% of them inquire further, they are "successful." It's a numbers game. What about the indirect panhandlers at churches across the nation? The only thing different is you get a sermon to go along with the solicitation!
Vegas would not be Vegas if these flyer handlers weren't there. And besides, WHY THE HECK ARE YOU PEOPLE GOING TO THE STRIP? That place has a disease known as TMC and TMP...to many cars and too many people. It's a zoo. 85% of the toruists that visit Las Vegas get "stuck" on the strip where in my opinion, only 15% of what really is happening in Vegas happens there---and at a cost!
What I'd like to see is some input here about a meaningful list of things to do OFF the STRIP...I'm tired of waiting for someone to write a book about it. See link.

Does anybody in casino management read this stuff. You hit the nail on the head...I THINK nobody should pay for a room in Vegas. After all, they get their money with the boos, shows, eats and gambling! re: Tables: HOW about more $1-2 tables...I mean, when a gamblers money is gone, it's gone. The longer you play, the better for everyone. And agree totally about three reel slot machines...VIDEO slots suck. They are a product of video games we as kids are used to, BUT they are too computerized in looks and action.
Great suggestions, but I don't think the people that make decisions in Vegas ever read this stuff!!!!

I've seen in several of the messages, others, like me, play at low minimum blackjack tables. I can't count the number of times I've walked by or been at low limit tables which are completely full and have people waiting for a seat and right beside them are empty higher minimum tables with the dealer staring off into space. Can anyone explain to me how that benefits anyone? There are people wanting to play and who will in all likelihood lose, but no, the tables sit empty????

Sounds like what everybody wants to see in vegas is at ellis island, although even there i'd like to see the table mins go down. cheap food, cheap drinks, loose slots..... just stay off the strip in general.
and for the porn handouts....think of the teenage boys dragged to vegas by their families. i was one once, and that's all i had to look forward to. don't make a 15 year old boy cry.
