Not sure if this is the first post on this board but if it is, I'll congratulate myself :) LOL!
2 questions:
1)What is your favorite hotel on the strip?
2)What is your favorite hotel off the strip?

1)Mine is probably the Mandalay Bay.......love the pool area and the great restaurants.
2)Green Valley Resort (Henderson). They film the reality show American Casino there. This is now shown on the Travel Channel I believe. The gambling here is not the greatest regarding blackjack. No $5 tables and very few $10 tables on the weekends.

Looking forward to alot of responses.

We go to Las Vegas 3 times a year. Our favorite hotel on the Strip is the Bellagio; just stayed in their new Spa Tower two weeks ago; it's fabulous. Our favorite hotel off the Strip is Green Valley Ranch. We've never stayed there but since we always have a rental car during our stay, make the short trip out GVR every day.

We usually stay at the Mirage. We like the pool area and the entertainment near the gambling floor. We also like TI. We've stayed at the MGM but had problems in the past. Got a very nasty room once. We are going to try NYNY in October. I can't wait to see what that is like. We live near AC and love the Borgata but Las Vegas is the best.

I'd have to say my favorite hotel on the strip is the Tropicana -- for one reason: The Pool! The waterfalls are great, and no matter what time of the day you get to the pool, you can always get a chair.

We've stayed at the Flamingo which also had a nice pool, but it was WAY too crowded and all the chairs were gone by 9am at the latest. Doesn't leave much room for sleeping in after gambling all night!

I've done well at the slots at the Trop, but they don't have a lot of the newer machines and games which I look for. And the older rooms there REALLY need a remodel so it's good one is coming up.

Otherwise, the Trop is great -- not too crowded, great prices, and an awesome pool experience.

Off the strip, I'd have to say the Sahara -- for the great prices, loose slots (I've won several times there), $1 blackjack, and quick bus ride to downtown at night.

It's been over 3 years since we have been to Vegas, and that makes me very sad. It is my very favorite vacation spot. We used to go a couple of times a year, spring and fall. But hubby's health is not good, we are both in our 70's, so we probably will not get out there again. However, our favorite places to stay were the Mirage and Treasure Island. I also liked The Orleans. I am going to enjoy watching this forum to keep abreast of what's happening out there. Lola in Iowa

On strip: The Venetian. I love the sports book there.

Off strip: The Palms (for coolness) or The Orleans (for value)

I have never stayed off strip so I cannot comment on that... unless I include the time many years ago, going there with my parents and staying in some flea-bag motel because they wouldn't shell out for the Excal (a childs dream!).

I like the Mandalay Bay pool area too. Really nice and although there are many kids around, it is possible to avoid them, especially with Morea Beach now open.

But my fav hotel is THEhotel at Mandalay. Beautiful. Large and well appointed rooms and superior service. They even allowed us up to the Foundation Room on members-only night. And for us, our THEhotel experience was one to never forget because we're not high-rollers or big spenders at all and to be treated like we were was a great experience.

We love Paris. We just feel so comfortable there. Great location, wonderful food, nice, attentive staff, hooked to Ballys & since the comp system is connected to our Caesars riverboat here at home, our comps pay for everything. Can't beat it. We'll be there soon - T-5!

We like the Mirage a lot, we tend to stay mostly at MGM/Mirage properties.
We were very surprised how much we enjoyed MGM, too.

What do you like about Venetian's sports book? I'm going to LV at the end of the week, staying at Caesars (where we normally stay). I like Caesars' sports book, never been in the Venetian. So tell me about it.

As for this thread, I normally stay at Caesars because the guys I go with get RFB. But, for the money, I like Paris much better. I like the smaller casino, the younger dealers/cocktail waitresses, and the breakfast buffet.

We just stayed in the Spa Tower last week and it was wonderful. We also stayed in an Executive Suite at Treasure Island our first night in town and that was wonderful, though I don't love the changes to TI, the buffet is much better and they appear to be redoing the coffee shop. Like you I also like GVR though we have never stayed there it is on our list for places we would like to stay. On strip we love Bellagio and the Mirage. Haven't stayed at Wynn yet but I think I could enjoy myself there also.

Actually I've been to Caesar's sports book and it's I like it almost as much as the Venetian's.

The Venetian has very comfortable chairs to watch the sports, mass quantities of TVs geared to sports, not race, and very attentive and friendly cocktail waitresses. The odds and spreads seem competitive. I just find it a comfortable place to place two or three bets, have a few drinks, and watch the games.

That said, I spent some time at Caesar's in July and like the sports book there, too. I just usually don't spend that much time on that side of the street. Also, the drink service at Caesar's sports bar seems a bit inferior to the Venetian's.

After years of staying at 4-Queens (downtown) we moved to the strip and always stayed at the Flamingo, which was fine for us as location was great.

However, having said that this year went and stayed back downtown at the Golden Nugget and fell in love with it - so much so that we're going back for T'giving week.

I love to stay downtown and then go to strip to "visit"

My favorite hotel is wherever I can get the best deal (cheap or free) -- usually I get comped rooms at Harrah's or Bally's. I'm not in the room much anyway so I don't need anything fancy.

We like the Excal or the Luxor. The Excal has great security, but lots of kiddos. Most of the kids stay downstairs in the plary area. We ususally get some really good comps. there. The Luxor has a scrumptious breakfast, and their slots are loose. At least they were the last time we went. We love LV, and hopefully will get back there by the end of the year. ;)

My wife and I have not stayed off strip except at the Hilton, so that wins and it really is good. I am sure the new monorail now improves its "location" We love the monorail, so I feel that the Hilton should be considered "strip" in a way.
ON strip we have stayed at Stardust, Flamingo, and Paris as of late. PARIS wins hands down. I recall thinking, cleaver but smug theme... our stay won us over 100% Big plus is the connection to Bally's. Ever hear those cheesey sounding ads for Bally's Steakhouse as you ride the walkway in from the strip? That guy makes it sound like a ponderosa, trust us its AMAZING. Been to Lawrys, been to Smith and Wolenski and Ballys just may top them both in our book! the Itailian place there is also top notch, but not quite as good.
We are not big Gamblers but the Slot tournament made Paris price a bargain.
I cant see NOT staying there on our next trip. I am worried that Harrahs will mess up our points that we used to keep long term.... any one in the know contact me please

My sentiments exactly, Mary! You hit the nail on the head. I'd rather spend my money on something else.

Comped rooms are best. We have never paid for a room since the casinos started giving out player cards and points for cash back. We have stayed at Harrahs, Paris, and Rio on comped rooms. Harrahs mostly and we like it because it is in the middle of the strip, the rooms are clean, we get good service and the food is edible. The Range food is scrumptious. Last Christmas we did have to pay for a room at Harrahs for our son to spend one night and they only charged $50.00. Thought that was good deal.

However, we will probably be changing to the Rio since we get comps there from Harrahs and our hostess there is the best. So I guess it's whatever floats your boat.

Love Vegas and usually get there twice a year but we are trying to sell our home to move to Fla. so we havent had time to go.....plus Im working now, so Im very Vegas starved. I keep thinking we will get to the river boat at least, but we havent even done that for months.

Our favorite hotel is Bellagio. Have stayed there 4 times. Going to LV this Nov. staying at Mirage for 1st time, they comped us 4 free nights so we jumped for it. I've stayed at Caesars (was very nice), Bally's (wasn't bad at all), and Monte Carlo (also pleasant) but love Bellagio. Hope Mirage is wonderful too! I love LV, can't seem to get enough of it!

I've been to Terribles, as well, and the gambling was good and cheap. I, too, walked out with some tidy profits from the craps table...

The Las Vegas Hilton - Great food at all price levels (best sub sandwich in Sin City), great pool, and a sports book that stomps Caesar's and the Venetian into little Roman meatballs. . . . . Who really cares about the room? I've stayed in hotel rooms all over the country, and here's a little nugget that I've learned: Two double beds, a bathroom and a tv is two double beds, a bathroom and a tv, especially when you're flat on your back mouth open snoring like a chainsaw little drool out the corner of your mouth . . . . . . . . Unless you spend time in your room reviewing evacuation procedures, perusing the hotel services guide or watching the Weather Channel, and if you are you should have stayed in Poughkipsie. I don't give a snot about the little complaints people have about their room unless one of the following top ten signs you're in a bad room occurs:

1. Rats or anything else that's not paying rent.

2. No curtains

3. No running water

4. No towels.

5. Door doesn't lock, or room doesn't have door.

6. Somebody else walks in with a key that works my lock.

7. Room is actually a cot in the corner of the sports book (and then I just ask for a comp).

8. Room is next to fire station which runs sirens a lot, train station which rattles windows a lot or bar which has large bass speakers.

9. Room next door is on fire.

10. Actually #1: Air conditioner doesn't allow you to hang meat in room.

That's pretty much it.

Sooooooo many to choose from, where does one begin??? I would say my favourite stay so far has been at Mandalay Bay. The Paris and Bellagio come a close joint second. TI is also great - for the price! We are staying at Wynn in November, so you never know, we may have a new favourite!

As for offstrip, I've never stayed anywhere off strip so I cannot comment :D

Being a major low roller makes Ballys is my favorite strip hotel. Nice rooms, good rates (cause I never get a room comp) and good mid-strip location keep me staying there. Downtown it's the Nugget.

My favorite is the Monte Carlo. Have been staying there at least twice a year since it opened. Have also stayed several times at the Mirage, TI, Imperial Palace, Paris, Tropicana, Bally's, and Circus Circus. Circus Circus is the only one that I will absolutely never stay in again. I love the size of the Monte Carlo. Very easy to get around and in a perfect location. Yes, the walls are thin. I also think their buffet is pretty lousy. We just go elsewhere to eat. We haven't paid for a room since it opened. We are not high rollers. We play quarters and nickels..........just for a long time each day. We get a beautiful fruit basket when we arrive. Why go anywhere else? I've also been pretty lucky there. I have to admit, I'd love to try the Wynn and the Bellagio.

My favorite hotel (at this time) is Harrah's. We go out one a year at end of April to first week in May. That might change I am due to retire in 2006. I think Vegas is a great town, always stay on Strip. Do go to Atlantic City 5 to 6 times and stay in a Harrah's property. The new policy about earning a reward credit each six months-or lose them is annoying. Got a Harrah's credit card use it for small purchase once each six months and that's it. Have never had any trouble at Harrah's service good for most part.
