As someone on this Forum pointed out, this is a hokey show, but I enjoy it all the same.I like the characters/actors and the great Vegas scenery.
However, even though it's just a "TV show",one thing constantly bothers me.Have the production designers ever been to Vegas? They can't seem to make up their minds where the Montecito is located. Most of the time it appears to be at the South end of the strip, either SE of Mandalay Bay or sometimes where the Tropicana should be.However,Ed Deline's office appears to be across from the Venetian .
Also frequently when there is a scene of one of the characters driving on the strip they will suddenly appear to change direction/location,
sometimes in the middle of a conversation.
Does this bother anyone else or am I just being too picky? :)

I love the show but I think they get carried away with their "swoosh" effect. Ive noticed that they are consistant with the view from Ed's office(Harrahs is always in view)
I always thought the new Monticito was where MGM should be I'll look more closely tonight.
They do have continuity people on the show but I agree that it sometimes doesnt match.
Wonder how the ratings have been on Fridays

The show I spoke about in the "Kids in LV" thread called "Las Vegas As it Used To Be", Bobby Greco stated that for some reason all of the shows "set" in Vegas mix the hotel locations and streets up but he gave no opinion on the reason for it. I have noticed that they do this on movies, etc too. Strange isn't it?

Watch the movie "Con Air". The plane crashes around the Riviera/Stardust area and the next thing you know is a foot chase on Fremont Street. What a haul. Also they hit the guitar at the Hard Rock and land on the strip.

Rain Man is the same way... he is driving into town and passes all of these hotels going the wrong way just to end up at Caesars... it drives me crazy.

that said..I love the tv show. it has enough mystery and humor and feel for the desert etc.. to give me my fix.

love the characters!!

I'm hooked on it, too. Seems like they've taken a more humorous turn this season and I'm enjoying it more. Hate the way they mix up locations, though.

I agree. I actually yell at the TV that that particular casino should be at the end of the strip, so why do they have him driving past it to go to Caesars?
They do the same thing at the beginning of The Soprano's. They have Tony driving out of NYC onto the NJ Turnpike, but then they show different parts of the Turnpike that he wouldn't be driving past on his way back home to Upper Montclair!

I think the fact that much the show "Las Vegas" is not filmed in Vegas
is a turn off for me. We watched the show last year and usually
enjoyed it. However, this year the story lines have just been
lame. I still record it, however, it's not something we look forward
to watching anymore.

Well, for those who have never been to Vegas (and yes, there a few, like my 39 year old son), the lay of the land means nothing to them. They just see all the lights and lust for a trip to Sin City.

But I agree with Ohioron about Con-Air. The plane passed Barbary Coast, then a bunch of people that looked like they were standing in front of Caesars were being warned while the plane was still tearing down the strip for what seemed like several miles. How could it possible end up at Caesars? Then the stars of the movie ended up downtown and all of a sudden there was the Sands in the background. That was just a little too weird. They really mixed it up. Movie makers need to get real.

I notice sometimes when they zoom in or out from the fictitious Montecito that there are big spaces of open desert a couple of blocks from the strip!!!
How old is that shot?? There's not vacant piece of sand in either direction for at least 15 miles!!!

I enjoy the show, but since it has now been moved to the desolate Friday night slot, enjoy it while you can. I predict this is the last season since it's been moved from the coveted Monday night slot.

As for the scenery fo-pahs, I tend to overlook it. I just enjoy seeing the scenery.

Trivia Question (no, I don't know the answer). I just re-watched Midnight Run with Robert Deniro. What casino was used for the live shots (looked like the old Desert Inn exterior, and Stardust interior)?

I also love the show and watch it whenever I can. Now it is an hour later on some of the channels due to the fact that our time changed and the Eastern part of the US not yet.

It is on Fridays at 9 p.m. usually. Monday was a better night but the Apprentice took that over.

Yes, I have noticed many of the confusing locations. From Ed Deline's office you can usually see the Harrahs sign quite clearly. Yet it does appear at the south end of the strip.

I also agree there is a lot more vacant land around that just isn't there anymore, all built up now.

Still, I will continue to watch it as long as it is on.

I dont know if this is the last season for Las Vegas. Ive been researching and cant find anything if it has been renewed. It had Deal or no Deal for a lead in a few times and that cant hurt. DOND is going back to once a week in a couple of weeks.

"Rain Man" - they start driving north on the Strip, and then south past the Westward Ho.

"Swingers" - Shows them making a left from Flamingo onto the Strip, and then the next shot is going south, past the Westward Ho.

It seems that the continuity people for movies think that no one will notice these consistent errors, but since over 1 million people live in Las Vegas, with millions more tourists each year, they need to start thinking about this.

yea and in Rain Man.. they are coming in from the south past Caesars... then head south past westward ho. now that i think about it tho... they had to find a pawn shop first. hmmmm.. maybe my complaint was unfounded after all.

always drives me crazy anyway.

I think it was filmed at the old Aladdin.

In Rain Man, I get a kick out of seeing that big parking lot in front of the Imperial Palace you see from their Ceasar's penthouse window. It seems every property has maximized their real estate by building 'up' and all the way to the sidewalk on the strip.

I JUST REMEMBERED--- in Rain Man... he drove through town first and that is when he was going north to Cal. and then north passing Flamingo and IP then heading in the other direction past W. HO.

man.. i better let this go! but it always drove me crazy! perhaps i should get a life and this is my last Rain Man complaint. clearly i haven't seen Con Air or i would really be on a tangent!

My sister and I were in Vegas during this filming, and while walking back to our hotel one night, came upon the plane stuck into the Sands. We watched for awhile as they got the emergency vehicles in place, etc. It was a "Vegas memory" seeing that big plane shoved directly into the main entrance of the Sands with all the lights, etc.

Is that it is a movable casino resort. No worrying about whether to choose a hotel that is south strip or midstrip - with the Montecito you can have it all!

Just be sure to use valet parking - you don't want to hike to their parking garage.

I did get an email today from a national media writer who said he was pretty sure Las Vegas would be back next fall but it's not a lock yet.

Good news. NBC is giving Las Vegas another season. Not sure if it will stay on Friday nights. Deal or No Deal must be a good lead-in.
