We were there, at the Excalibur, from March 20 to 24 this year and it was good. Just showers in bathrooms but huge showers and good sized bathroom.
Rooms were big, had all you need and were clean. Elevators fast and never had to wait for than a few seconds.
We did what another poster suggested - before we left home, we said we had late check-in due to plane not leaving here until 8:45 p.m. and they took all our information and then all we had to do, upon arriving at the Ex was go to a machine, swipe the credit card (number we gave them) and out popped our room keys (cards) and the slip with information on which room and which tower (ours was 1) and a slip to redeem for a fun book.
After that, we bypassed a long line-up at check-in even though it was nearly midnight. Great move. Use their toll free number and sign in by phone.
Enjoy your stay.

Have Stayed there for 10 of the past 13 Years
Nice Rooms Clean and decent Size
Don"t like the Buffet but the Cafe gives you good food at a decent Price.
big Casino plenty of slots and Table games.
There are kids around especially at the entrance and second floor
The sports book is nice sized and they still do it the old fashion way writing the line and scores in marker. ( I have to like it that way)

Great location! Courteous and fast service. Excalibur runs specials often, so you may want to call at least once a month to get the best rate. Because I kept calling, I had the rate of $540 or so for 5 nights (last week of March) and then got it knocked down to $326. That's with the view!

Excalibur us a great medium priced hotel. Here are some tips.
Before leaving call the hotel and check in over the phone. Once you have arrived swipe your credit card and be on your way. No lines. No wait.
Ask for a room in Tower #1.
Join the One Club, comps add up fast.
Leave a few dollars on the pillow each day and you'll be pleased with the service.
If you have a car ALWAYS use valet. Get to know them and they will get you some great tips as to what to do.
Sherwood Forest is decent not great.
Don't do the buffet, don't do the buffet.......
Try Sir Galahad's if you like Prime Rib.
Don't do the buffet
Go to the Tournament of Kings dinner show
Make a friend with one of the outside people and they will be very helpful.
Go to The Comedy Stop across the street at the Tropicana.
Use the TV for checkout.
We go 2-3 times a year and always stay there and always enjoy it.
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy
and oh yeah Don't do the buffet

We made the mistake of staying at this dump last March. The service sucks and the people do not care. Above all they have the worst table rules. To tell you few of the things that went wrong, we came back one night to a room that had not been cleaned and it took over 1.5 hours for house keeping to come (this was at 11:00pm so they were not exactly busy). We needed more towels one day it took almost 2 hrs to get them. The hotel would not let me wife charge to our room inspite of having a signing card and being registered to the room. And to top things off when we go to check out my host tells me that my play did not quilify for RFB when I had over 6hrs a day at over $200.00 a hand. Then for a topper not a single person asked how our stay was. Was there anything good? Yes a bathroom attendant whom went out of his way to help my son when he cut his leg. Please do your self a favor and stay away from this dump. There is alot more than this that went wrong but I only have so much space. PS After talking to the manager they did send me a coupon for a free weekend, it went into the trash, free was too expensive for this place.

Did they give your wife a reason for not letting her charge?

This has to be a set up. I find it virtually impossible to believe that if you are playing $200.00 per hand for 6 hours and getting no comps there is more to the story. We play $.01, .05 and .25 slots most of the time and have not paid for a single meal in the past 5 years. Our room rates range from free to $59.00. This May we are staying 2 nights for free and 3 nights for $39.00 and 1 night for $59.00. Weekends are $89.00.
Remember the Excalibur is not The Wynn or Bellagio it is what it is and what it is, is a great medium priced hotel.

No this is not a set up. I went to Vegas with my family (I usually go with some buddies) and we ahve a host at Mandaly Bay that takes very very good care of use. I had her forward my profile to the host at Excalibor and the host gave me casino rate with a play adjust (standard at a new property). And when we checked out the host at Excalibor did indead tell me that I did not qualify for room comps (she picked up 2 meals). The only part of the comp story that I left out was that when I got home I called my host at Mandalay Bay to tell her about my experiance at their sister property and she was dumb founded. My host at Mandalay sent me a comp for an airplane ticket and 3 nights RFB to make up for the whole Excalibor experience. I also feel that you are being kind in calling it a mid level hotel, I would call it lower level and I would stay at the Plaza or Lady Luck before staying at Excalibor again.

They said that she was not on the registration by name when in fact she was

You should call Excalibur and describe your story. We have been going to Vegas for the past 13(?) years at least twice a year and have been staying at Excalibur most of the time it has been opened. We have always been treated with the utmost graciousness and have 99.9% of the time had all our requests fulfilled.
Monsterpocket, if you were playing $200.00 per hand (And to top things off when we go to check out my host tells me that my play did not quilify for RFB when I had over 6hrs a day at over $200.00 a hand.) there had to be a mistake. There had to be a big mistake.
I will never say that Excalibur is the same quality as Mandalay Bay but it is not the same cost as Mandaly Bay. Iv'e said it before and I'll say it again Excalibur is a great mid level hotel. You get a decent room at a decent price and for the most part you get great service. We are in Vegas to enjoy Vegas and if the room is clean and neat and the price is right we are happy campers. The location is great. You can get to 7 other casinos with a short walk. You can get to Luxor on a moving walkway. You can get to Madalay Bay on a free tram.
I am sorry you had a bad experience, I truly am. However I would easily reccommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for accommodations at a decent price.

I stayed there last October and had a good time, although I played all my BJ over at the Trop. BJ at Excal was all $10 and up. I remember the Excalibur slots being ok, and they had a weird payout on the Jacks or Better, I think it was 9/5. But could only find those in the bank of slanttops near one of the hotel towers (go past the sportsbook on your right). Avoid the buffet - it was a confusing setup, and just flat out bad. But the hotel price was perfect, only $39/nite off the internet.
