Here is this week's Topic Of The Week submitted by SeanMicheal:

I know everybody loves Vegas but I'm sure that everybody have a very bad experience one time out there. How about your worse experience out in Vegas. It might give some people some ideas as to watch out for.

We were at the Lady Luck and I stepped outside the door while waiting for valet parking. I stepped on a syringe. Fortunately it DIDN'T puncture my shoe sole or scratch me.

I can imagine the hell of 6 months waiting for a HIV result!!! Plus you immediately get put on the retro-virus drugs when you may have had a possible exposure.

All in all it totally destroyed my love for the Lady Luck. If the valet parking people can't keep their area clean from used needles then it's a very poor reflection on the casino as a whole!!

Last year I got a virus while on the airplane ride to Vegas. Numerous other people on the same flight got sick as well. This is the risk you take every time you get on an airplane sharing the same air ventilation in tight quarters with everyone else. Low grade temperature along with stomach ache the entire visit.

In 23 trips to Vegas, I only had one bad experience and I really don't remember why it was bad. I must have lost all my money and that's what made it bad. Other than that, I really enjoy my trips and I can't wait to go back.

It was about 4 years ago next month. A friend and I had eaten at the Luxor buffet for breakfast. There was only one thing she ate that I didn't....the cantalope. By night fall, she had developed a full blown case of food poisoning and had to be admitted to the hospital. About 3 months after we returned, I was checking a website that rated all the buffets. I found that 3 other people posted that they had developed food poisoning from the Luxor buffet (they didn't specify which meal) at the very same time my friend did.

I was in Las Vegas in July 2005 and decided to play some blackjack at the NYNY. I usually look for $5 tables (I'm definitely not a high roller) but couldn't find any so I sat down at a $10 table and passed a hundred dollar bill to the dealer for chips. She passed me my stack of red chips and I took the stack and put the whole stack on the betting spot and lifted all the chips but the two bottom ones off the stack and put them in front of me. I lost the first hand and continued playing two chips at a time for the $10 bet. After winning one hand and losing about 5 or 6 I noticed that I only had about 4 chips left. I then realized that maybe the dealer thought I had only given her a $50 bill and stopped the game to ask her. That's when she informed me that my first bet was $50 and she 'thought' it was strange that I would buy $100, get two $25 chips and ten $5 chips and then proceed to bet $50 on the first hand. It turned out that when she cashed my $100, she gave me the two green chips and ten red chips in one stack with the green chips on the bottom. She never questioned me about my bet even though she later said she thought it was 'unusual' for someone to bet that way. The other people at the table also commented they thought it was strange for me to bet $50 on my first hand at the table. I asked her to have the pit boss come over and see if I could get the $40 bucks that I didn't even realize I had bet but she would even do that. It made for a very depressing final day in LV. I didn't have much luck up to that point in a four day trip and that was the topper in a losing trip. Lesson learned the very hard way; always count your chips and check your bet.

My wife and I had eloped to Vegas and were killing time before our wedding. We decided to take the trolley to view all the strip hotels. This was my wife’s first trip but I had been here many times. For some reason, the trolley was taking many detours off the strip and stopping in a lot of different places than normal. The ride took almost 3 hours to go from Slots-of-Fun to Excalibur to the Riviera. All the time my wife is going out of her mind trying to get off someplace on the strip but the trolley is always stopping in the back of the hotels. Finally we made it back to our hotel. In 10 trips since, she has refused to ride the trolley. In fact, she almost wouldn’t ride the Cable Cars in San Francisco because they reminded her of the trolley in Vegas.

2 years ago Christmas, we were in Vegas and 2 things happened. My husband was playing one machine at the Luxor for hours, and hours at 3 am I was hungry and we went for a snack. Were gone about 30 minutes. When we came back, all the light were going wild. The man who was sitting next to him put in 3 quarters and won the car. I think it was a BMW.
But something else happened that trip. My husband started feeling "funny". It was the day before we were leaving, so he didn't mention it much. However, we had to wait 3 hours for a delayed flight and he was getting tense. Then we had a breach of security on the flight. {that got us a free flight for another time] and he started feeling really bad. When we landed at 4:30 am, no one was around. He was now having chest pains. We went to the hospital thank goodness he didn't have a heart attack, but he ended up getting stents put in.
And we lost money that trip. :( How's that for a crummy trip.

About three years ago my husband and I were staying downtown at the Golden Nugget ( A Great place) and decided to try the city bus to get to the strip. From the moment we got on the bus we were scared. And the more stops they made, the worse it got. By the time we got up by Circus Circus we went ahead and got off and grabbed a cab for the rest of the trip. We were surrounded by drug addicts, prostitutes, and in general just plain scary people. I thought we might get knifed at any moment and mugged. We will never do that again, From now on, it's a taxi ride.

Well we go to Vegas about 4 times a year from Atlanta for over 20 years, Our first several years we stayed a lot at Stardust then we started liking the Flamingo and stayed there and played there for years!

Not long after the Monte Carlo was built we started playing a lot in there and then actually started getting great comp's from the Monte Carlo. About our 5th or 6th visit it was the night before we were getting ready to leave the following day, I went up to the room and was locked out! So I went back to the casino to find my husband and he too when up to the room and he couldn't get in. My husband went down to the Casino Host and told her that we were locked out, she said that she wanted us to pay our bill now, before she would let us back in the room. So she gave him a new key we went in the room and packed up all our stuff paid the bill and left and went next door to stay at NY NY because I have never heard in my life of being asked to pay for anything until I checked out of the hotel, this was a comp'ed suite, up front and any other items that were charged to the room of course I am willing to pay if I didn't have enough comp's to pay for it.

Once I got my credit card statement I refused to pay the hotel bill the comp'd room because I had all my paper work from the hotel that the room was comp'ed up front and so those charges were finally taken off. Usually we never pay for anything, but this trip we did end up paying for the food.

So now on my visit to Vegas I love visiting the Monte Carlo I always seem to walk out of that place a winner. I was in Vegas in January and played at the Monte Carlo the bit poss asked me if I was staying there, I said no I would never stay in there hotel again after what happened to me. He was SHOCKED! He said that all the casino host had been fired that use to be there when I was doing business with them and offered me a free suite. So we decided to stay an extra night in Vegas and took him up on the offer on the comp'ed suite he gave it to me for 3 nights, but we only stayed the one night!

The hotel itself is beautiful, and I do like staying there usually great service except for the casino host that one time.... I just received another offer of a 3 night comp'ed suite and $100 food etc., but I'm not sure. I think I might just stay with NY NY, we have been staying there for the past 5 years and we really like it there.

Oh this one left a real bad taste in my mouth..

Two summers ago I was sitting in the back of the Excalibur around 3 in the morning on the slots. There weren't many people near me at this time. A drunk guy came over and sat down at the machine beside me and started talking to me. I had a machine full of credits plus a tray full of quarters. I tried to ignore him but it was hard as there was no one to help. I put my change light on but no one came. Finally I decided to cash out and leave. As the coins were coming out of the machine he kept trying to help me put them in a bucket but each handful he would keep a couple and put them in his back pocket. This went on for 10 min until I filled 2 buckets. As he walked away I grabbed a coin guy and told him what happened. He didn't seem that concerned and went on about his business. Where was the "eye in the sky" ASLEEP. From that point on I will never sit in an area where there is no one. I didn't pursue this situation as I was a woman alone and I had to walk back to the Flamingo by myself so I was a bit scared. To this day I am sorry I didn't go to the hotel manager but it's really left a scar about my favourite city. As safe as it seems there's always that one person who can ruin it for you.

I happened to be in Vegas on 9/11. Yes THE 9/11! We found out what what was going on in NY when my Mom called the tour co. to confirm her reservation for the Hoover dam tour that day. Obviously, Hoover dam was closed. All the shows were cancelled, and I had front row seats for 5 of them, since I booked online 3 months in advance. I was more angry about that than I was at the terrorists. But finally reality set in, and as we were singing God Bless America at the IP Luau (the one show that did go on), I realized where my concerns should really be.

On another trip, I had credit card problems at Bellagio. The counter clerk charged my debit card $200 for 2 tickets for "O" for the thursday night show. I had specifically asked for the wed. night show, since we were leaving thurs. I don't know if she had a hearing problem, or if it was a language barrier. I charged the 2 tickets for wed. night, and she "voided" the thursday sale. When I tried to charge my dinner that night, my card was declined. I called my bank, and they said I was over my limit. There were 2 $200 charges that day. When I explained that one was voided, they informed me it would take 5 days for the "voided" charge to clear, unless the hotel called the bank to confirm the void. After a losing 3 days, $200 is a lot of money to be without in Vegas. I had a heated argument with the uncooperative supervisors at Bellagio, and they eventually did call and get the charge reversed. I work in retail, and I had done this for my customers on several occassions. Why the people at Bellagio were fighting me on it, especially since it was their mistake--I don't know. But just an FYI, this can be done! The banks don't fight you on it.

The parking lots can be huge and gambling, drinking, and going to the dance clubs you'll sometimes recall where you parked your car but one time, my friend and I went to where we thought our car was and my friend was intoxicated and I just forgot for a second, but we thought our car was stolen and called the police and all. Later realized, we parked somewhere else.

Helpful note, write down where you parked because after a day/night of gambling, drinking, and partying you just might forget where you parked too. ha.

My worst experience was in May, 2005.

First of all I had a problem getting through security at DFW because my drivers license had expired a couple of weeks before and I did not realize it.Then they checked my luggage and me because I had forgotten and had left a Bic lighter in my pocket. (My daughter had brought me to the airport and left and I had no way home until I could contact her after she got home to come get me if I couldn't get on the plane. She didn't have a cell phone. She lived an hour away. I was sweatin' it.) Then the plane was an hour late leaving.

Got to McCarran and there was some kind of computer glitch and they were making a security check, and we waited on the tarmac about 20 minutes.

Got to Thrifty to pick up my car and there was a lloonngg line because their computers were down and they were having to fill out everything by hand. Waited in line for a while and remembered my license was expired and started to get a cab, but about that time they called me and the guy who filled out my paper work just started writing and never noticed the expiration date on my license. (phew)

Got to Harrahs at midnight (was supposed to check in about 10:00 pm) and the Diamond check-in had just closed. But things started looking up, when I checked in they gave me a suite. Beautiful.

Next morning I have a conference at the Paris. Never had been in their parking garage before so I started driving around trying to find a place to get in. Finally came thru some back alley and ended up in Bally's garage. Had to park a long way from the elevator. Figured it out the next day.

Lost a brand new earring during one of the meetings.

The rest of the stay was okay. Enjoyed the suite and won a little on the slots at the Paris between meetings.

Worried all the way back to McCarran that they wouldn't let me on a plane because of the DL problem, but they just looked at the name and waved me through (phew, again),

I got my license renewed pronto and have been verrrry careful about what I have on my person and pack in my luggage since. Now I just breeze through. :D

Edit --
I forgot one thing. The suite at Harrahs? Well, when I got home and checked my Harrahs points they had charged one night of the room to my points. Called my hostess and she did get right on it, but it still took about a month for the accounting dept. to straighten it out. They had entered my coupon for 2 nights as one night. I did get my points back.

This was my only time to be in Vegas by myself. Being a strong, independent almost senior citizen lady I survived. But it was a rather harrowing feeling at the time.

A few years ago we were staying at Excalibur. The maid left the door ajar and never locked it when she was finished. We had a few things taken from the room and they treated us like we were lying. They treated us like we were trying to scam them out of something. The maintenance man that came to check the lock said the maids often leave the bolts open on the 4 rooms they are cleaning and then lock them when they are done. We felt so invaded. Of course we have never stayed there again.

On a trip to Primm (Stateline now) to ride the Desperado, the rest of my party went inside to eat lunch while I stopped on a strip of grass by the entrance to Buffalo Bill's to snap a picture. I put my bag with wallet, cash, camera supplies and clothing IMMEDIATELY to my side and took the picture. When I turned around, it was gone. At first, I ran up and down the sidewalk looking for the bastard with my bag. After 10 or 15 minutes I realized he/she/they were long gone. I reported to security and got nowhere. Security's response to my request to "check security cameras" . "We don't have cameras in that area" When I assured them they do, because I SAW the cameras, I was informed they were "dummy" cameras.

I lost all my cash except the $50 I had in my pocket, cancelled all my credit cards and had to go to Las Vegas Metro and file a report(not because I expected my bag to be found) but to get a letter of authorization so I could get on the plane home.

Being a New Yorker and the brother of two officers in the NYPD, I should have known better, but I let my guard down because I was in Las Vegas. Las Vegas Metro Police told me theft of this nature and pickpocketing are rampant in Las Vegas and perps "look" for people with cameras, bags, etc. follow you and "wait" for you to put them down if only for a moment. Hope this story protects one of you from the same fate.

Visited Rosemary's on West Sahara 6 times first 5 were excellent and the last trip was a nightmare. Had a waiter and a server do their best and then went they went over board trying to sell us the wine tasting with each course. I cannot remeber how many courses there really was. Anyhow we had taken our daughter there for the first tme and prior to visiting it with her we built this place up to the max. The waiter and the server spoiled all of this hype. I wrote a letter to which there was no response. We were seated right across from a couple then went for the entire deal. Suprising enough they were not busy. Usually they are crowded but if memory serves me right this was early on a Sunday (can't swear to the day) but it was at the early dinner hour. I was so upset I ordered after a stupid sales pitch from the waiter and finally said just give me a plain strip steak. You guessed it! That is all he brought to the table was a steak. No rolls, or bread, no side dishes, no potato just the steak., My wife and daughter's meals were complete. My steak arrived at the table at least 5 minutes after the other meals were served. I think the main reason was after about 5 trips to the table to get our order I finally told him just give me the strip steak rare. As far as other interuptions there were none in fact the waiter or the busboy never were seen again until it was time for the check. by the way i leave the 20% tip just so I would remember the experience. Well that was the last trip we ever made to Rosemary's on West Sahara and I think the main reason was they never even acknowledged my email. Well I'm only one customer but I needed to share my worst experience in Las Vegas. We visit Las Vegas 7 times a year and will never xonsider Rosemary's again.

On a recent stay at Frontier, I believe the maids or someone with a key stole my eyeglasses. I didn't wear them the whole trip (they are for backup- I wear contacts).
Before leaving the room, I always do a thorough walkthru, and the glasses never left my toiletries bag anyway... so they were stolen.

WARNING it turns out there is a black market for eyeglass frames. I spent over 200 on mine and now I am sure they are on someone else's face.
Thanks Frontier!

In December 2000, I visited Las Vegas with a large group of co-workers for a conference. On our last night there I took a co-worker to Treasure Island (it wasn't TI at that time) around 10 in the evening. Played some blackjack and after having a winning session we took our chips to the casino cage to cash in. Just steps from the cage, we heard a loud shot and I thought to myself, well, they are having a late pirate show. At that very moment a security gaurd in a red jeacket fell at my friend's feet. I didn't notice this, because a rude man ---with a gun!---pushed in front of me and was robbing the casino cage, having just shot the casino security man. I took my friend's sleeve and quietly pulled her back and to the side where we ducked into an alcove next to the cage. As we moved into our protected positions, a glance over at the BJ pit showed everyone on the ground and I remember seeing the dealers peeking over the edge of their tables. Everything came to a standstill. There was another "Bang!" as the robber shot into the cage. Then silence, then a man (apparently just a casino visitor) took off running after the escaping robber. After a while we all came out of hiding. The girls in the cage were sobbing. We were close to the downed security guard and finally paramedics came. He had been shot in the back. Several days later we discovered that he had survived.

The police came and, as witnesses, we were asked to stay for questioning. They took us to the restauant at the front of the casino where we were questioned by police, hotel security and then interviewed on tape by detectives. We were not allowed to sit together and they even sent a police officer with us when we had to visit the restroom. The whole process took about 4-5 hours. The restaurant, which had been closed, opened their kitchen and sent out snacks and we were offered free drinks. The casino cage girls were with us and some of them were still hysterical. So around 3 in the morning we finally were allowed to go to a special room near the cage to cash out. Upon leaving we were scared to death to go outside to return to our rented car as the creep had not been caught.

We followed the news story on TV the next day and in print, online, when we returned home. Treasure Island had been robbed at the cage three times that year by the same guy. They had installed bars running all the way to the ceiling after the second time to keep him from hopping over the counter and this is why he shot the second time into the cage. Not sure if he actually took any money this time. They did catch him several days later walking barefoot along one of the highways wearing a "Hello Kitty" nightshirt and a Santa hat.

My friend is still traumatized to this day from having the security gaurd shot right next to her.

Those who had been sequestered and questioned, as we were, were asked if they were guests of the hotel and if they were, they were comped. We were given nothing as we were not staying at the hotel there.

I returned to the "scene of the crime" the next trip and Treasure Island still had it's casino cage near the front door, which in my mind just invited this kind of trouble, and in my opinion makes them somewhat responsible for this even happening. If you notice, most casinos have thier cages set pretty far back into the casino, which obviously helps to prevents this kind of "hit-and-run" type of crime.

I know crime can happen anywhere but this was my first and only experience as being a witness and it has made me very aware of the prescense of security, especially around the casino cages.

That's my worst experience in Vegas...and despite all that I keep returning 2-3times a year.

Our most recent "worst" experience was at Sams Town and trying to get a taxi cab in the early morning hours(8:30am) for the airport. The Valet people assured us that they had called a taxi and it would be there shortly. 45 minutes later, still no taxi and there was another couple also waiting for a taxi for at least an hr longer then we did. Needless to say all 4 of us were disgusted. We finally ended up taking the shuttle to Harrahs and then catching a cab from there to the airport. Never again will I rely on the valet people at Sams Town for taxi service!!

Las Vegas the Entertainment Capitol of the World thats right no other place like it in the world so I hope you have one experience after another ! I am a Vegas local and have I had experiences you bet one after another and still having them and will always have them and so will every person that comes here , My goodness this is not Knotts Berry Farm people this is Fabulous Las Vegas.... so keep comming and experience things here you cant experience no where else but Sin City !! Now as for bad experiences let me just say I have been a local for over twelve years and was comming to vegas long before that, and I can honestly say I have never had a bad experience because of " Las Vegas" never only good one's and the great people in this city live and breath taking good care of every vistor that comes to this city it's what they do Best!!!! Now you might say im being unfair because I live here and I will say it's beause I live here and not just visiting that i am accurate when I say anywhere on the strip or down town you are in better hands then you are in your home town! Am I defending Las Vegas hell yes I am you bet and not because I love this city and I live here, but because it's getting bad mouthed by people who's so called bad experience here really was for the most part their lack of knowledge or maybe not paying attention or just having a bad day but not because of Las Vegas !! You can get sick on a plane going anywhere or you might step on something at the White House does this mean it's no longer safe for our President to be there, no thats obsered and you can lose your money playing any game anywhere if you don't have the knowledge you need and that's just how it is any place you go in this entire country!! As for the food I eat it daily and it's some of the best in the world and I might add the least exspensive , as for people eating something that did not agree with them or it being that something was bad Las Vegas cooks more food in a day the most of your entire cities eat in a year so it moves fast and the odds of it being bad are nill to none! I'm sorry if I offended anyone that was never my intention but I will say that I to was offended when I heard people bad mouthing my home as you would be if I came to your home and did the same thing. But hey no hard feeling it's water under the bridge and im over it and I hope you are too! So come one come all to " The Entertainment Capitol of the World " Fabulous Las Vegas and experience it!

My fiancee and I made our first trip to Vegas the week before Christmas 2005. I can only say that while we didn't have great expectations for the south tower in Bally's, we were surprised to find stained and ripped furniture in the suite we booked for an extra $26 a night. Not anything to complain too much about since the bed and other amenities were fine.

The cashier at the Big Kitchen buffet gave me a dirty look when I tried to pay for a $48 tab with three $20 bills. Again, nothing terrible.

We're planning on going back again same time this year... will probably stay at Bally's again for the location and value, but we'll definitely be holding out for a north tower room.

While I understand why you would defend your home, I also want to point out that our posts to this topic were due to it being this week's Topic Of The Week. While I myself did post a response to this topic, I can assure you that nothing could keep me away from Fabulous Las Vegas!!! :D :D I love that city and can never find enough time to spend there. I'm sure I can speak for many of us here that belong to this forum for this very reason. I know had the "Topic Of The Week" not been about bad experiences, I probably would never have posted mine here. But I can say that I found many of the experiences posted here a very interesting read...BUT none of them would EVER sway me away from Sin City in the future.

Just my 2 cents. :)

Paris Hotel insists on guests leaving credit card imprint. My room was prepaid and I didn't charge anything to room. Later that month when I received credit card bill, noticed Paris Las Vegas charged my account $379. Telephoned Paris to find out what charge was all about. No one wanted to talk to me. Took 5 or 6 telephone calls and finally someone directed me to Accounting Dept. Accounting Dept. informed me the charge was for room service which was ordered on the day AFTER I checked out. Accounting Dept. wasn't interested in any of my "excuses" and insisted I WAS responsible for the charge. Had to get my credit card company involed. Paris was NOT co-operative with credit card company either. Took 3 months for my credit card company to resolve the isssue (my favor of course). Now when I check into any hotel and they insist on a credit card imprint, I just tell them I don't own one. So far that has worked for me.

A friend and I had eaten at the Luxor buffet for breakfast. There was only one thing she ate that I didn't....the cantalope

I have heard that melon is one of the highest risk food for food poisoning. I guess it's because it's wet on the surface and can break bacteria easily.

I've only been to Vegas twice, so I haven't had much time to run into bad experiences. But I did suffer what I consider some pretty bad customer service at the Luxor theater earlier this month, recalled with excruciating detail in my TR. The issue is pending a response to the letter I sent them. Otherwise, my Las Vegas experiences so far have been great.

Warning: This one's long.

It was December, right before Christmas, the year Bellagio opened (1999?). My friend, Judy, asked me if I wanted to go to Vegas with her. Warning sign: Judy does not like Vegas. Judy doesn't gamble. I know, I should have seen it coming.

A few days before we left, I started coming down with a little cold. Knowing better, I still got on the plane. Judy was a member of Hilton Honors so she got us a room on the concierge level of Bally's. This included continental breakfast and evening cocktails served in the concierge suite. What I didn't know was that, at the time, Judy was subsisting on some kind of manufactured protein bars so she figured this free food would be enough for me. Right.

We got in about 6PM and had to rush up to the concierge suite to get our cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. I thought we'd have dinner after that. Wrong.
We walked over to Bellagio in the freezing cold and looked around. I gambled a little but it's difficult when you're with someone who doesn't.

About 3am, I awakened fully congested. I dressed and went down to the gift shop for some Nyquil. $10 for a small bottle. I don't think so. Went to the coffee shop and opted for some penicillin--matzoh ball soup and tea.

Next morning, up to the suite for breakfast--tea and a bagel. I would have killed for bacon and eggs. Judy went to work out and suggested I go see NYNY. Took the tram to MGM and figured out that it didn't save much walking. What did I see at NYNY--Nathan's. Ambrosia to an ex-New Yorker. Sat down and had a dog and orange juice. Real food at last!

Then decided some fresh air might do the trick so walked back to Bally's with a stop at Starbuck's, along the way. Walking back--huge mistake. It was very cold and I was breathing through my mouth (like I had a choice). A few hours later, full blown laryngitis.

Finally met J back at the room and told her that Studio 54 was closed due to the holiday. She had her heart set on going dancing there. I actually was relieved. She started amping out about it and complaining that we would have nothing to do. I offered up several suggestions but none were good enough. All I wanted to do was lie in bed. What hell am I in?

That night, we went up to the concierge suite for cocktails. I downed a few Dewar's and had some greasy hors d'oeurves and tried to hang but, alas, I knew I was not going to last. I went to bed and left her to fend for herself. An hour later she was back upstairs.

The next moring, we got ready to leave. Judy asked if I wanted to have breakfast--real breakfast. I couldn't answer her fast enough. Came back home on Christmas day and, within a week, I was at the doctor's office.

Since then, Judy has asked me to go to Vegas with her and I have declined. You don't have to hit me over the head.

Disclaimer: None of this was Las Vegas' fault. It was due to unfortunate timing and a poor choice of a traveling companion. I continue to go there 2-3 times per year. I would even live there. I love Las Vegas.

This question is a no brainer.
1993 We had been booked into Excalibur when our travel agent (I must say "former") called to tell us that they were overbooked and would we mind moving to another hotel? Nmaely The stardust. I says to firstwife (and still firstwife) "hey it's Vegas, all the hotels are good"!!
It was a disaster. We were in the back and If I knew then what I know now I would have been gone in less than 2 hours.
Here are just a few of the things thta were BAD
1) Room walls had 2-3 large holes
2) Walls paper thin
3) Morning 1 I open door to see a clothesline with underwear drying.
4) Morning 1 I find a street person rummaging threw garbage.
I call security and am told "Nothing we can do"
5) Afternoon #3 we are trying to have a "nap" when maid opens shades from outside to see if anyone inside. Bye Bye "nap" and feeling of security.
6) call after call to complain gets us nowhere and we are on a package deal (last time I ever did that) so we figure we are stuck.
7) last day we are there we get a call from office to ask if we enjoyed our stay.
We lovingly refer to the place as "Camp Can't Suck Enough"
Hope to be there for the implosion.:p

We Were In Vegas This Past October. Before We Went I Checked My Harrahs Comps On The Computer And It Said That We Had 2 Free Tickets To The Scintas At The Rio. After Cheching In At Harrahs We Went To The Total Rewards To Get Our Voucher For The Tickets. They Looked My Name Up And Said That I Was A Platinum Player And That Platinum Players Get 2 For 1 Tickets. After Arguing With Them For 20 Minutes, I Gave Up For A While. About An Hour And A Half Later, They Were Giving Out 2 For 1 Tickets To Anyone Whether They Had A Harrahs Card Or Not Out In Carnival Court. That Got Me Started Over Again And After Getting A 2 For 1 Coupon, I Went To The Total Rewards Again. This Time There Was A Different Lady (from Queens, Ny) And She Checked Her Computer And Said That I Should Get 2 For One And That Only Diamond Card Holders Got Free Tickets. I Told Her That It Said 2 Free Tickets On My Computer And That I Also Was From Ny And Am Able To Read. I Also Told Her That A Platinum Card Isn't Worth Much Since They Give Out 2 For 1 Tickets To Anybody. She Got The 2 Free Tickets For Us. I Suggest That If There Are Any Comps For You On The Computer, To Print Them All Out And Bring Them With You. When We Got Back I Wrote Harrahs A Letter And Sent Them The Comps Page That Said We Had 2 Free Tickets.
Also, If You Have Bad Legs Or A Bad Back, Rent A Scooter, Or Take A Bus Or A Cab. Don't Use The Monorail As The Walking To Get To It And The Walking You Have To Do When You Get Off Is Much More Than You Can Imagine. You Lose A Lot Of Time Using The Monorail And The Walk From Ny Ny To The Station Behind The Mgm Is Almost As Long As Walking From Ny Ny To The Aladin.

2 years ago this past December I went to Vegas with my mother and sisters.
Right before I left my son got the flu. I was very careful not to get near him. Low and behold the night we arrived I started feeling ill. Got much worse as time went on and got so bad that I 104 fever and a severe back ache. I could'nt even stand up straight. I was so upset that I deceided to go down to the casino and drink away my pain. Well the combination of the alcohol and medication did not turn out very well. Not only did I have a high fever I also threw up many times from the accessive alcohol. My last night there we were in a slot tournament and I ended up having a severe asthma attack!!! Finally was able to get on the plane but not before talking to 2 flight attendents and the pilot. Seems I looked so bad they were afraid to let me fly!!!

I guess the members that have known me for a while know what my worst experience was.

Eileen and I were at the Barbary Coast in 1998 and at that time there was a shuttle that went from Bally's to the Star Trek Experience. While exiting the Barbary Coast we saw the shuttle at Bally's and we ran to catch it but ended up missing it.

We then went to the Flamingo and I had to urinate. While doing so I felt a burning sensation and looked down to see blood in the urine. I went to the medical center at the IP and they sent me to a urologist that thought I had a prostate infection.

Later that night everything seized up and I had to be transported to the emegency room at Sunrise Hospital, a place I won't recommend to my worst enemy..One doctor on call for the entire hospital plus the emergency room.

After 12 hours of waiting, they finally deceided to do a CAT Scan and that revealed a malignant tumor the was completely eclosed inside my right kidney. (lucky for me it was)

So upon returning to New York (I did stay the reat of the trip in Vegas) I had the kidney removed and have been cancer free ever since.

I guess you could say that was the best worst trip I ever had because without running for that shuttle which caused the jarring of the kidney, the outcome could have been a lot different.

While on Fremont Street I was pickpocketed at one of the casinos.
I was wearing a purse around my waist, I hit a jackpot and the coins were bouncing out of the machine, I was kneeling on the floor picking up the coins and this so called "gentleman" came over to help and told me to keep my hands on the machine to stop the coins from fallling out. Well doing this he unzipped my purse and took out my husbands prescription sunglasses which cost over 200, he thought it was a wallet. I did not realize this until we were leaving the casino and my husband asked for his glasses. This really ruin our day there but may me more aware of what is going on around you and not to be distracted. The belly purses are really not safe either. Just wanted to share this story and by the way we have been back to visit three times since this happened but still feel funny going to Fremont Street.

My husband and I went with another couple in 2003 and we all ended up with some kind of sickness. I had a stomach virus or something the first night and one of our friends drank too much downtown one night and we took him back to the hotel because he was sick. The next day my husband ended up with a migrain which made him sick to his stomach and my other friend came down with a really bad chest and sinus infection which made her have a fever etc...she had it worse than any of us because hers lasted the entire last two days of our trip.
The trip was still fun though despite the ailments.

Many years ago, three of us "ladies" had a wonderful week planned for our Las Vegas vacation.

It wasn't until I read this thread that I realized one horrible taxi trip we "survived"!

We had been at the dinner show (again, showing my age!) at the Hilton, and we were rushing to head to the midnight show at another casino further down the strip.

We were hailed a cab, then our nightmare began. Looking back at it now, I suppose the driver was upset it wasn't a long haul (we were rushing for time rather than comfort). Well, he entered a parking lot, and drove madly around for what seemed like minutes, trying to jack the price up. It was 10 minutes later that he finally pulled up to the front of our intended hotel.

We were so shakened up, and since I was the final one out, I simply handed him half the fare, hoping he would make a fuss. He didn't; just grumbled and sped away!

The attendants who opened our doors for us "apologized", and seemed upset that one bad driver tried to take advantage of 3 women.

We continued to take cabs, and had nothing but wonderful rides from that point on.:)

 Riding the LV trolley is the experience of a lifetime! Everyone should ride it once just for the experience, that is if you have half a day to spare. ;)

April will be my 10th trip 7 years. I have not vacationed any where else since my first trip to vegas in '99. No "bad" experiences to speak of. I did not enjoy Fremont street in '99, too seedy. last year made a trip back downtown and really enjoyed myself (could have been the cocktail waitress at Mermaids who called herself "dirty Dianne", she kept the drinks coming quickly). Planning on a day downtown again this year.:)

My worst experience happened before 9-11, when large trucks were still allowed to go through the Hoover Damn(sic).
I left Phoenix at 11:00AM and got a few miles from the damn.
The traffic was stopped, and 30 minutes later people were out of their cars & searching for infomation. We heard there was an accident up ahead, and 2 semis had overturned in the damn. An hour later we saw helocopters overhead. Later, we see cars coming (The damn is open:p ) One of the cars stops to tell us, that they were at the front of this line & turned around when they found out it woud be at least 2 more hours before the damn was cleared. They said a women was trying to escape from the Police & caused the accident.
So, I turned around & went back to Kingmon. Then, I took 95 through CA, and finally back to NV. I got to Bally's at 10:30PM. I did get an upgrade, because the checkin guy felt sorry for me:p
The worst part was I missed the damn sign near Kingmon..... "Accident - Dam Closed"

Anyone who has not had a BAD experience in Las Vegas as obviously avoided Harrahs. I visit Vegas 4 to 5 times a year and will completely avoid Harrahs. I am a Diamond player and receive all expenses comped including flights. The other property owned by Harrahs such as Ballys,Flamingo, and Rio would do great to train the employees at Harrahs. I frequent Harrahs property in Atlantic City, Tunica, New Orleans, Reno, Laughlin, and Lake Tahoe and have always found these to be filled with professional employees. The employees at Harrahs are just plain rude.

I can't say that anything really bad happened to me , but in 1989 or '90...can't remember exactly when, I was pick pocketed at the Golden Nugget. I had $160 in my wallet, my credit cards, driver's license, bank card, health insurance card, even my library card...my life. They took it all. We went to Security to make the necessary calls to make reports, and filled several forms. Needless to say I now carry only the necessary cards with me when I travel.

Stayed at Paris again last year, Feb. 05. After check in, showered and went to the casino. I only play table games, went to play craps, found a spot, laid down $500, dealer told me there was no room at the table. I looked to my left, and realized if I stayed at that spot, he would not be able to look down on the 2 babes and there big cleavages, so I pick up my cash and left the table. After I thought about it, I went to the Hotel manager and told him what had happened. I didn't tell him for any reward or anything, just thought he might like to know. He told me to fill out a complaint card. I left and gambled at the Mandalay group casinos, for the remaining week. Did lousy that trip drop a lot of cash. I guess customer satisfaction is a thing of the past.

All our Veags trips have been great but I'm sick of all the "flippers" who congregate at every corner and "flip" the cards at you so you'll take them. Most of them contain nasty photos of women. These guys make just walking around uncomfortable.

Two I can recall after many trips.

1. Before TITO, was playing at Excalibur, and while collecting coins, man came up to me to distract me with a British accent, took my bucket and ran. Told security, nothing they could or would. We're talking about someone running through a casino!

2. Playing a Mirage, a drunk came and sat next to me, started drinking my drink (Coke/Pepsi). Then his sloppy drunk self leaned over, spilled the drink on me, right inside my gym shoes, which were now soaking wet! Security came, threw him out, brought me towels, and I squished back to room to change shoes!

I can't say that anything real bad has happened to me in Las Vegas, at least not in the same context as all these stories. I usually have a wonderful time in Las Vegas, well maybe my one bad thing is that I have never left LV with more money than I arrived with.

Those cab drivers sure can be scary! We had one once who took us from MGM to TI and grumbled about rude tourists the entire way, getting more and more angry and agitated and LOUD as we drove along. We couldn't wait to get out of that taxi and we tipped him good too, just in case we got him again. I know that was wrong, you're supposed to tip for good service, but he was that scary.

The worst thing that happened while we were in LV didn't happen to us, but it did affect our trip a bit. We were driving down the strip, it was in 1994 I think, and near the Aladdin there were emergency vehicles and traffic was stalled. As we slowly drove by, we saw a tiny figure covered with a white sheet lying on the road near the medium with a car half up on it. We thought for sure it was a child and when we got back to our hotel later, the news was reporting it. It turned out to be an elderly lady on vacation with her family for the first time. They were crossing the street and a young driver that had a bit too much to drink jumped the medium they were on and hit her, killing her instantly. It was horrible and gave us such a bad feeling for the rest of our trip. I remember being happy it wasn't a child, but still so sorry for that family. It's so dangerous to cross anywhere on that strip, I'm glad they have more of those elevated walkways in.

A few years ago, we were staying at the HO. When walking back to our room, we quickly found out they were clearing out some sort of sewage line. It was the most vile smell I had ever encountered - words can't do it justice so I won't even try.

That's about as bad as it has gotten. One other one was during the third year we went, a member of our party had family in Vegas, so he insisted we stay at their house for Saturday night. Little did we realize that meant 5 people sleeping on a floor in an extra bedroom. He did have a car, which we thought was a blessing, until the day he got upset that we couldn't decide on where to eat lunch and drove off with all of our jackets in the back seat and didn't return for several days. Needless to say, we decided to end the relationship with him after that trip. Ruined our Vegas trip, that's for sure.

We went to Las vegas 3 years ago for Easter. We tried to stay at the Belliago. but the power was out. they told us to go a head and check in the power would be back up by 2: 30 pm at 3;00 and no power they said they would have power up in the north tower by 5:30 pm so they moved us to the north tower but to our surprise when we walked into "our room" it was already occupied. so on to room # 3 we got there and ther was only one bed for 4 people and no rollaways were available. to now to room 4 thank god 2 beds but still no power. it is now 7pm and my husband who has sleep apnea and has a machine to help him breathe in his sleep has to have power and there is no power to be had in this hotel. it wasn't until 10 pm that they finall moved us over to a basic room at the MGM. they comped us 3 nights for the trouble but when we used them that trip was just as bad. the hotel staff who borught us towels while we were out sightseeing left the lock turned so our room was left open for anyone to walk in a take anything . Then the comped us for the trouble brunch at their buffet but for only 1 person in the room even though there was 2 adults and 2 children in the room the brunch ended up costing $123 for a comp.

I can honestly say all of my Vegas trips have been fun (not always profitable), and I go often. On one of our earliest trips (my wife and I always go around our anniversary in August) my wife and I started fast and when you mix liquor, too much food, sun, and the Vegas heat, you get sick. In my wife's case, really sick. Just a word of advice to those that are going to Vegas for their first time in the August heat, take the first day or two easy. Real easy....or "reel" easy for the slot lovers.

I received a mailer from the Imperial Palace offering a $25 credit for a 2 night stay. I called them and asked if the comp was available for 2 nights in Dec. I arrived in Las Vegas and checked in at the IP and received the comp papers. When I checked out I noticed that the $25 credit had not been deducted from my bill. They told me that I was ineligible due to some technicality. I called their customer service line and was told they would get back to me which they never did. Watch the fine print on those comp offers especially at the Imperial Palace.

I have been to Vegas several times and the worse thing to happen to me was when the car from the Bellagio to the Monte Carlo stopped and the doors would not open. I was alone in the car for only 15 minutes. That was nothing compared to the troubles of the other people I just read about. :)

Nothing "bad" has ever happened to me in LV, but 3 years ago we treated my in-laws to a Vegas trip, and my father-in-law ended up in the hospital. We were staying in Bellagio and after 2 days of not feeling well, he finally confessed that he was bleeding a lot everytime he went to the bathroom. He was dizzy and pure white! An ambulance was called and he was brought to the hospital. He had a bleeding ulcer and he was so low on blood that he was near death! He ended up staying in the hospital for 7 days. We left before they did, but Bellagio let my mom-in-law stay the extra 2 days for free. They were very nice and concerned about my in-laws! My father-in-law missed the entire vacation. I'd say that was his worst vacation ever!

This didn't happen to me but to my niece. She was in one of the clubs in Treasure Island. It was one year ago around Thanksgiving, someone slip her a drug into her drink. The only thing that save her was she got violently sick in the limo they put her in. When she won't stop throwing up they left her out on some road in the middle of night outside of Vegas. Took her purse with everything in it. Lucky enough some nice person stopped to help her. Nothing was done about it. So when you see those survelliance cameras like on Las Vegas and they come to the aid of there guest. It just on TV not in real life.
So if you are in a club watch your drinks.

Beware of the casinos. They will take your money. They advertise how much money people win and how much they give away everyday. BS. You play 3 credits in a slot machine. You hit something that gives back 2 credits. You get a message that says you win 2 credits. Not in my book. You have lost 1 credit, how did you win 2? PR BS so they can advertise how they give away millions everyday.

My "bad" experience is nothing compared to some of the things others have written but here goes:

I was relatively new to Las Vegas in the mid-90's and had been very lucky playing video poker. I wasn't gambling a lot at the time and usually played quarter VP. But once in a while I tried $1 machines and there was a bank of $1 machines at The Mirage that had been VERY good to me. I had just arrived on a trip and went over to The Mirage to find this bank of machines. When I got there, there were several people playing on one side of the bank, all of them smoking. Not wanting to sit next to smokers, I went around to the other side, which was empty, sat down, put in a $100 bill, and started to play. I lost the first 3 hands I played and then noticed that I only had 5 credits left. I didn't understand why I only had 5 credits left after playing only 3 hands but then suddenly it dawned on me that I was playing a $5 machine! I had lost $75 in less than a minute! I cashed out my remaining $25, sulked the rest of the day, and only played quarter VP the rest of the trip!

The only bad experience was at a strip joint downtown.
It was a Sunday afternoon and I had been talking to two ladies who didnt work there and the dancers were getting pissed because I wasnt paying attention to them. Turned in to a bit of a cat fight with Metro coming.
The funniest part was the Metro cop saying he doubted they'd fly me back for a trial (he was kidding about the trial), lol.
Never had a bad experience in any hotel

July about three years, Ms SmitRock and I decided to catch the strip bus down to Paris from Stardust as it was too hot to walk it. It was well over 100 degrees outside… more like 120 degrees, well we finally got on the bus and as we entered thru the front door the bus was packed with people… worst than sardines… man the body odor and funk almost knocked us out, it literally made our eyes water. The body odor was circulating thru the bus AC at full blast, I assume the bus driver… after smelling this all day could not take it anymore, he was very riled and agitated... when he got down to Treasure Island, he stopped the bus, stood up, cussed everyone out on the bus, got off the bus yelling at the top of his lungs “I refuses to work under these %$#&*^% conditions” He left the bus and us stranded right there on the strip, We later saw maintenance men fumigating the bus and spraying SMELL GOOD in the bus vents:eek:

My wife and I were going out to Las Vegas for our anniversary. We thought about getting remarried by an Elvis impersinator (we thought that would be fun). We booked out trip through a company called Las Vegas Holidays. I received the hotel confirmation in the mail a week prior to the trip. I called the travel agency and I was informed that we had e-tickets (this was 6 years ago so e-tickets were pretty new). We get to O'Hare and check in and I was informed that we had paper tickets by the airline. Our flight was scheduled to depart from Chicago at 7:45 am, well needless to say we missed our flight. The next flight was scheduled to depart (America West) at 11 am.

The travel agency was based in Las Vegas so we could not get ahold of them for a few hours. Once the travel agency opened and the Airline explained the situation to them Las vegas Holidays did not want to pay for their mistake but they eventually did and we made the 11am flight.

It does not end there. Once we boarded the flight we had to sit on the runway for 3 hours due to rain. The flight attendants would not even bring the drink cart around to serve atleast soft drinks. We missed our connecting flight in Phoenix and had to wait around the Phoenix airport for 3 hours. Once we boarded our flight to Las Vegas we had to sit on the tarmack for 45 minutes waiting for the pilots.

by the time we arrived in Las vegas it was 8:15. It took us 14 and 1/2 hours to get to Vegas. Once we got our lugage and made it to the Stratosphere we had 10 minutes to freshen up and get over to the Stardust for the Wayne Newton show.

The following day my wife and I decided to pay a visit to Las Vegas Holidays and spoke with the manager there. She informed me that they were out $1200 getting us to Vegas and she had enough nerve to tell us that they were not obligated to do so. I asked then why was I informed I had e-tickets when I actually had papertickets and where were they, the manager told me that the tickets were on somebodys desk and that the person made a mistake.

All they offered to compensate us was a $100 credit voucher towards our next trip out to Vegas using their comany and a free dinner at any resturant in the city. Well that was a mistake. We went to the Top of the World and I think that our bill was close to $400. Hey it was the least that I could have done. We must have ordered several entrees each.

Then we went and saw Sigfried and Roy. We did not enjoy the show. My wife fell asleep right after the show started and I could not wait for the show to end. I just found it boring. That was the worse $225 I had ever spent in my life.

What were the highlights well being in Vegas, Seeing Wayne Newton

What made the trip a bad experiance? Las Vegas Holiday's Travel Agency and shelling out $225 on Sigfried and Roy Tickets.

But On the lighter side of things only 29 days till I return to Vegas

Wow. I see that some folks have had some really crappy trips to LV. I really have not EVER had a bad trip there. LOVE the place. Minor problems that happen everywhere, rude bartenders, waitresses who forget you're there, maids not leaving towels, the jerk at Slots-A-Fun informing me that I could not smoke my cigar while the fellow next to me chain-smoked his Kools. Well, the last one could only happen in Vegas.:) I guess the worst thing happened at the Flamingo, at 4am, when a lady ran into me with her kids stroller while I was playing slots. Cut my ankle pretty badly and I had to go up to the room to clean up. She kept on going too.. Some folks need parenting (and manners) lessons.
Really looking forward to our next trip on March 19th!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When the Rodeo championships are in town, if one can find a hotel room, expect it to be outrageously overpriced. Thanks to the Palace Station for putting up with my round the clock gambling (until I could find a room) and thanks to the cowboys for causing me to reconsider the hospitality of my local casinos.

Helpful note, write down where you parked because after a day/night of gambling, drinking, and partying you just might forget where you parked too. ha.

:D LOL! That's a funny story! It sounds like something that would happen to me - without the partying!! LOL

So upon returning to New York (I did stay the rest of the trip in Vegas) I had the kidney removed and have been cancer free ever since.

thank goodness for that! It must've been a nightmare for the two of you spending your entire vacation in a hospital so far from home.

Gail

I thought we should go home immediately after receiving Steve's cancer diagnosis. But Steve figured that since it was 4th of July weekend, the NY doctors wouldn't be around anyway. So we decided to stay the rest of the planned trip. We ended up renting him a wheelchair so he wouldn't have to walk around. I pushed him up to the Excalibur in 100 degrees! Probably why he married me... ;)

All of my trips have been great, but the very first one started a little rocky. Needless to say, since it was my first trip I couldn't wait to actually get to the strip and see everything for the first time. I was flying on ATA with my buddy from Indianapolis. I hadn't flown for a few years, so I was a little nervous about the flight. As we were making our approach to Vegas, flying over the Dam, the pilot came on and informed us that the plane was experiencing some hydrolic problems and that our landing would "be a little faster" than normal. Needless to say, pretty much everyone on the plane became a little antsy. I remember turning to my buddy and saying "if we die on this plane before I get to Vegas, I'm going to be pissed off!" We seemed to land OK, but there were emergency vehicles all over the tarmac, with lights flashing. Once we were stopped, I breathed a huge sigh of relief and turned my attention to all of the magnificent buildings I could see out the window....practically salivating at the thought of the adventure ahead. Then the pilot came back on and told us that we would need to be towed into the gate. We sat for nearly an hour waiting to get in, all the while, the strip resorts right out the window. I wanted to get out and walk! That was the worst start to the best trip of my life. That night I hit my first Royal Flush and things just got better from there.

A couple years ago, when returning from LV, (we had a great time) we flew back into DFW on American Airlines. They landed at a different terminal from the one where we left. We had to take a shuttle over to the other terminal. Well, we were so aggravated about this that I guess we got turned around and couldn't find our car. DFW parking is huge. We were going up and down stairs hitting the panic button on the remote listening for a horn to honk. After about 15 minutes, we found it. Now, we always write down where we are parked: terminal, level, gate #, etc.

It was our second time in Vegas. We had a blast the first time we went with friends and we were looking forward to that same great time.
We got to Vegas in the late afternoon/early evening. My friend had gotten sick after dinner and went to bed. I was playing the slots late and suddenly I felt sinus drainage. I was hoping it was just from the smoke. Well - it wasn't and I progressively got worse every hour of the trip. Bad sinusitis and bronchitis. BUT.... I wasn't going to let it stop me from doing the things I wanted to do. "I will not let this ruin my trip". It did.
We got home. Went to the doctor. He says walking pneumonia. Two courses of antibiotics and steroids.
I guess I should have taken it easy instead of doing all that running around while in Vegas.

I've had some challenges in Vegas..rooms not ready forever, drinking the water in Milwaukee prior to take off and husband and I both sick with Cryptospridium after landing in Vegas, losing waaay more money than I had planned, but this one sticks out the most.
My sister and I had gone out together about 10 years ago, and stayed at the Sahara. We were gambling on the south strip most of the day, and headed back to our room around 11 p.m. We couldn't get into our room with our keys, and when we checked with the desk, they said they had us checking out that day. Assured them that we had one more day, and we went off to bed.
The next day, we checked out, and spent our day gambling before heading to the airport for the redeye. We had each hit some jackpots (at Circus Circus of all places), so had a good day.
When we got to the airport to check in for our 11:50 p.m. flight, the gate attendant looked at me and said "you were on LAST night's flight!" I had gotten confused with the night times and flights, and we were 24 hours late!
He said the flight was very full, but they would try and get us on standby. We had not flown alot at that time, and were very nervous about getting home. Luckily, we each had a fair amount of cash left (not usually the case, esp. if we are with our husbands!). They got us on the flight, and I have made careful note of the DATE that we are to fly ever since. I will say that the airline was Midwest, and they were extremely helpful with our situation!

But On the lighter side of things only 29 days till I return to Vegas

You are going March 22nd (Sweet 16 Weekend) too? I'll be there. Only 28 days now.

My worst experience in Vegas happens almost every trip, I usually get to Vegas at 11PM and spend the first night(and the next morning) drinking and gambling and NOT eating before going to sleep around 8 or 9AM. Then I spend my first day in Vegas puking and sleeping away the hangover. I changed my routine to account for this so I get there on Wednesday nights now instead of Thursday nights so that way I waste all day Thursday sleeping instead of all day Friday. Then I'm good to go until Monday.

Over the past 5-6 years I finally figured out how to handle Las Vegas before that I always had so much trouble with the HEAT!! I would get sick, had no enegy and just over all bad time. Finally I learnt not to do so much #1 and #2 try very hard not to go during June, July, Aug, Sept. If I go in May I reduce my activities greatly!! It is not fun to have Heat problems believe me!

We love Vegas and have not had any real bad happenings PERSONALLY but once with my husband, his brother and wife we went downtown for the Freemont Street experience and while waiting for the bus to return to our hotel (Stardust) we witnessed a mugging. The guy came out of nowhere and went for a couple who were carrying an expensive camera and 2 coin buckets full of coins. He knocked over the couple while grabbing the camera and the buckets and took off in some parking garage. Now we are leery about downtown.

We are very gratefull about all those over-the-road bridges though as walking along the street was taking your life in your hand previously.

Between The Venetian and Wynn the sidewalk is extremely narrow where the bus stop is. This does make it difficult to walk when there is a crowd.

Thankfully nothing too serious to report but we did have a bad experience at the Excalibur and it is now the only place in Vegas I would never stay again. We were in town for Valentine's day about 5 years ago and had show tickets and a reservation for a nice dinner. We returned to our room in the late afternoon after hiking up and down the strip to prepare for our evening. To our surprise there was no hot water. When I called the operator (or maybe it was maintenance) I was given a lecture about how to turn on the shower in a tone that implied I must be too stupid to figure out how to get hot water vs. cold water. After assuring the girl that I knew how to work a faucet I was put on hold for about twenty minutes. When she returned I was informed that there was in fact no hot water in our section of the building. No apology but they were working on it. Could you call us when it's fixed? No.

We waited a few hours and still no hot water so we headed out after enduring very cold, very brief showers. Still no hot water later that evening but it was working in the morning. Never got any apology for the problem.

In all the years I've been going to Las Vegas I've only had one bad experience and that was at the old Showboat Casino on Boulder Highway. My husband and I live in San Diego and it's only about a 5 hour drive to Las Vegas. One weekend we decided to make a real quick trip and contacted one of those discount hotel sites on the Internet. We got a real cheap room at the Showboat which we paid for at the time we made the reservation. They e-mailed us a confirmation number and told us to give it to the clerk when we checked in. Well, we got there Saturday afternoon and went to check in. First the clerk said they had no rooms available. Then after talking to another clerk she said that they had found a room for us. Well, we went to the room and it was a non-smoking room (we had asked for smoking). We went back downstairs and told them we needed a smoking room so after about a 20 minute discussion (apparently there was some sort of vacancy discrepancy on their computer) they finally gave us keys to a different room. We went upstairs and opened the door only to find someone else's belongings in the room. So back downstairs we went. This time they said all they had were non-smoking rooms so they gave us an ashtray and told us to smoke in it anyway. The rest of our stay just sort of went downhill from there. They were in the process at that time of changing over to the Castaways Casino so they didn't have a slot card system that was working and there was construction going on in various parts of the casino. To make matters even worse, there didn't seem to be any cocktail waitresses walking the floor and the slot machines were all very tight. Needless to say, it was the worst weekend we've ever spent in Las Vegas and we couldn't wait to get out of there.

I'm a regular Vegas visitor (every month) and this one surprised me.
I cashed in $180.00 worth of quarters at Fitzgeralds downtown and asked for
all $20s. These were the only $20 bills I had. Walked to another casino and
gave them two of the $20s for $10's as I wanted to play VP there & I like to play VP with $10s. Next thing, I was surrounded by security asking me lots of
questions. Turns out, Fitz had given me a bad $20.
Went back to the Fitz to fill out a report. They REFUSED to give me a copy of the report.
Back home, a few days later I called the Fitz and asked that a copy of the report be sent to me. They REFUSED.
Next trip, had quarters to cash in at the Fitz. I know, I know, but they happen to have some of my favorite machines. I asked them to use their pen to check the bills. They said THEY DON'T HAVE A PEN! McDonalds has a pen, Burger King has a pen, a casino cashier's cage DOESN'T HAVE A PEN?
I asked them to check the bills in their infra red screener, they said they DIDN'T HAVE ONE.
I now carry my own pen and mark every bill the Fitz gives me. I have since talked with an auditor from one of the strip hotels and he told me Fitzgeralds is notorious for passing off their bad bills. Beware of the Fitz cashiers.

I can't hold a candle to some of the experiences posted here but....

Spent a week in Vegas last Dec and partied 'balls to the wall' for three days when it all caught up with me. Fortunately it happened in the room - got my first ever nose-bleed that would not quit. After three hours we were thinking about going to the emergency room but finally it stopped. Spent the next 13 hours in the room nursing myself back to health with lots of water.

Morale of the story is stay hydrated, limit drinking alcohol (WHAT!) and use a saline spray in your nose. Especially if you're from an area with high humidy (Florida) and you are visiting an area with low humidy (Vegas).

This doesn't really qualify as a terrible experience, just one that left a bad taste. In early Feb. we went to Ellis Island on the recommendation of virtually everybody to try the $4.99 steak special. Naturally we had to wait, so I got a card and began playing. The woman at the players booth had plenty of opportunity to tell me that I got enough points as a signup bonus to give me a $5 food credit--just enough to have covered the steak dinner. Instead, we ate (it was very good, esp the green beans), paid and then went back to hang out in the casino for a little while longer. It was then that I noticed the number of points on the card and asked about it at the booth. THEN was when I was told I could have used the points for the restaurant. My feeling is she should have told me that in the first place. A dirty little trick that took the edge off an otherwise very nice meal.

One time some years back I was staying at thr Rivera (which I always liked) and there was a small ndependant- run gift shop on the grounds there.I was buying some casino chips from the guy and used a credit card. Luckily, this was back when I carried several different ones. He ran the card & came back and said the card had been reported stolen and he had to keep it. Well, of course I protested loudly and I had plenty of ID to prove who I was, but he said it was the law ( I doubt it, but anyway). If that had been my only card I would have made a bigger deal of it, but I let it go. When I got home, I called the cc co. and it was all a mistake (of course). But I never bought anything from that shop again.

A couple of years ago while using the restroom at the Imperial Palace I had money stolen. The thief used the old grab and run routine. I don't usually do this, but yes my purse was hanging on the bathroom door. It was kind of icky though because I am sure the snatcher had seen me through the little opening in the stall door, as I foolishly had just counted a clump of money and then put it back in my purse. They had to have seen where I put it in my purse as I had another bigger wad in another section of my purse that they did not take and they only had a few seconds as they threw the purse back in the stall before they left. So needless to stay, nothing looked suspicous on the camera pointed on the outside of the restroom that takes pictures of people going in and out. A real learning experience.:(

In June of '03 we decided to take a taxi from Excalibur to the Aladdin. When we got in the cab we said hi to the driver and she immediately said DON'T EVEN START!....what that meant, I still can't figure out. Throughout the ride, thank God a fairly a short one, my friend & I just kept looking at each other in disbelief. We didn't say another word and when we went to pay her at the Aladdin, she returned my minimal tip. I wasn't going to tip at all, but then decided to tip the very minimum. (I usually tip very well). After I told her in so many words that her personality had a lot to be desired...we went in and had a great time, but talked about it for days to come. Luckily, I 've never had a bad experience with a taxi driver before and since.

Hello everybody, I'm new here but I'll post my quick story.

I won't go into detail about how we missed our 9:00am flight and spent 5 hours at John Wayne Airport, and how impossible it was to do ANYTHING in Vegas on New Years...I get so frustrated just thinking about it. Anyway...

My fiance and I went to Vegas for this past New Year's Eve celebration. We had purchased tickets for the Stratosphere party in the observation deck because we were told by the promoters that it was going to be a "club" atmosphere with a young crowd. The tickets cost us $250 each which included dinner at the Top of the World as well as the party. We met up with 4 other friends and convinced them to buy $200 tickets to the party.

Since huge SUV taxis won't take any more than 5 people at a time, we always had to take 2 cabs with 3 people each to just sit in traffic for 45 minutes just to get from center strip to the Stratosphere.

Once we got to the party I realized what a huge mistake we made. It was by far the WORST party I have ever been to. We are in the 25-27 age group and I swear we were the youngest people there. I felt like I was at a retirement community with go-go dancers dancing by themselves. The bartenders that the Strat hired for the party weren't real bartenders and had no idea how to make any cocktails. They didn't have any engergy drinks or mixers. Who doesn't have Red Bull at a New Years party? Anyway between the 6 of us, we spent $1300 to get into that stupid thing and we didn't even get drunk. The view of the fireworks was awesome though.

We were able to get in touch with the management and we will be comped dinner when we go back next weekend.

**cliff notes**
Don't go to the new years party at the Stratosphere.
Save your $200 for the tables.

Good luck everybody!

Late March, 1996 we were staying at Bally's; had come back from some shopping and was putting the valet ticket in my purse and not looking where I was going. Tripped over the curb and wound up landing very unceremoniously on my butt and not able to get up. Trip to the ER (at the Sunrise Hospital that Steve mentioned - don't ever go there!), six hours later walk out with a sling and a diagnosis of a fractured right arm. Good thing our best friends were with us this trip, they kept hubby company in the waiting room - he was totally traumatized by the event and has not been back to Vegas since<g>. When I went back to work on April 1 my boss thought the sling was an April Fool's joke.

This is easy because I can only remember one bad experience in Vegas. Having dinner at Bradley Ogden. The service was unbelievably bad. The waitress insisted that we had to order starters, corrected my neice on the pronounciation of salmon and then brought her the wrong dinner. Someone else had to bring us the bill because the waitress didn't want to come to our table.

I like to try as many restaurants in Vegas as I can because there are so many good ones. I guess eventually you will come up on a bad one. That's why I have one place I always try to get to: Delmonico's. The food and service are always great and they remember that I go back.

I guess after reading about everyone else's misfortunes, mine was not so bad.

Our first trip, a friend was running a convention and had booked a block of suites at the Rio, so we got one at a really good price. We had looked at Rio's website and had seen the bit about the window from the bathroom shower into the room, suppoedly so you could watch TV or keep an eye on the kids while showering....so around 5:00am, after only about an hour and a half of sleep, my wife gets up to use the bathroom and turns on the bathroom light...
WOW! It's like a searchlight beam streaming out the shower window and directly into my face!!! So much for sleeping! This has got to be the DUMBEST "feature" to ever be installed in a hotel room!

Later that day when walking through the casino, one of the female "Bevertainers" was dancing on one of the stages, dressed in a "Schoolgirl" outfit...you know, the plaid skirt, white shirt, bow tie...and I'm coming along the isle from behind as she pulls one of those "Strip Club" moves where she is standing stiff-legged and bends at the waist, almost touching her head to the floor. Being a middle-aged male, and not upposed to adult entertainment, I was admiring the view and thinking "Hey! This is pretty cool!"...until I passed on by the stage and looked back as the woman once again stood up straight and I saw that she was 60 years old if she was a day!!! Yikes! I was left permanently scarred!!! I know the Rio requires that all of their servers also entertain, but yikes! Couldn't she have just sang a song or given a knitting lesson or something????

Doesn't compare with getting your pocket picked, or seeing someone get run over, but it sure did leave a lasting though unpleasant impression on me! To top it off, the slots at the Rio were so tight that they should have squeaked!!

but that's just me....

Around 2000 some friends and I were waiting at a bus stop near the Venetian waiting to head downtown when a drunk man started getting into someone's face. The person finally got fed up with the drunk and pushed him. He fell backwards onto Las Vegas Blvd. and a car came right up to him and slammed on its brakes stopping just inches short of his head! It was a very narrow escape for the drunk. He proceeded to stand up and yell at the driver like it was his fault. He then staggered away from the scene. I believe someone called the police and that bad experience stuck with me (at least until I got downtown :) )

I strictly rent cars now so I don't have to deal with all of that anymore.

February of 2004 we ate the famous $7.77 steak & shrimp special at Hardrock. I ate my shrimp but hubby did not eat his. We had eaten identical meals up until that time. Hubby never got sick. Next morning I was sick as a dog. (NO NEED TO EXPLAIN I'M SURE) Hubby made multiple trips to pharmacy to get me relief, in the form of just about every over the counter drug ever produced, & bottled water. Ultimately I just had to ride it out. I was in bed for 36 hours. To this day I cannot eat shrimp.

A few years ago my wife and I had booked our usual cheap lodging at Las Vegas Club. We took one of the shuttle buses that runs the route of the hotels. Since we were downtown we were the last ones off of the bus. The suitcase that was left wasn't ours. The driver said he would take care of it - I can't remember which company it was, but they had a booth at the airport. We came in to the main terminal that night. I made sure to get the name of the company and driver and the phone number before he left. Six hours later we were still waiting and calling the company. Finally about midnight - with no call from anybody from the company - somebody showed up at the bell desk with our suitcase. Now I get off the bus and check to make sure some excited visitor doesn't grab the wrong suitcase.

Approximately 30 yrs. ago we had our first trip to Las Vegas. Because it was for business, at night we tried to "see it all". I was so naive back then....I thought it was sin city for sure, and imagined all kinds of devient behavior. We were in a casino that looked like a boat, I think it was called The Holiday, and was in approximately the location where Harrah's is now. My husband & I were playing Blackjack and all at once the dealer collapsed. Did they stop the game? Of course not. The brought in another dealer and kept going. When the parametics came they brought the dealer on the floor around and it turned out she was in diabetic shock. They took her off to the hospital.
Then the same night I went to the restroom and there was a woman in one of the stalls who had taken all her clothes off and didn't know where she was or where her car was. I got an attendent and they had me help her dress and they escorted her out. This casino had the reputation of being a favorite of the locals at the time, but after having two things happen the same evening that were unusual it made me wonder!
The One Bad One...Three years ago one of my daughters was my companion. She had walked alot that day and when she went to sit on the bed her knee popped out of the socket and she was in severe pain. It was around ll:00 pm. I picked up the phone and called for help. We were guests of Caesar's and to make a long story short parametics took her to a local Hospital, we had to wait in the emergency room hall for a long time, and when she was finally seen the Doctor popped the knee back in, gave her some pain pills, told her not to walk and stay off her feet. By this time it was 4:00 am and getting light out. I called Caesar's and asked if they could pick us up as we had no transportation. They were right here. What great service and I couldn't have more praise for everyone at Caesars who helped us. The next two days of our trip we spend in the room sitting on the bed, ordering room service, and watching TV. Didn't get to gamble as much but I would never have left my daughter in the room alone. When we got to the Airport and needed a wheel chair (I had called ahead for one) by the time we got it we missed our flight. We were both in tears but finally got seats on another airline.
This happened Labor Day Weekend 2005 - My girlfriend & I were standing by a slot machine visiting and a young clean cut man came up to us and said "Jesus asked me to talk to you. You need to play a quarter machine at the Max." Well he never asked us for money, or anything else. We both didn't know what to think, but he walked away and we never saw him again.
It's always an adventure waiting to happen.....can't wait to go again.

Now this was my 1st trip to Vegas. Pretty sure it was 1994. Our friends were showing us around and said we needed to go to Harrahs buffet. Well the buffet was just coming out of a remodeling so it was still a little tore up. We didn't care the price was right and the food was good and plentiful.
What 3 of us didn't know was something wasn't right with the Turkey or the Turkey Gravy.
At 2 am while playing VP at the Excalibur I got the call and damn near had to sprint to the room.
It hit my wife about 2 hours later. The man of the other couple woke up about 5 am with the same problem. His wife hadn't eaten any of the Turkey and she was ok.
Well it lasted about 5 hours and when the urge came you had better be on the move.
My friend was very worried that his wouldn't clear out before we got on the plane. From about 7 am to 10 when we left for the plane he sat outside in the sunshine except for a few mad dashes.
We all lived and the plane ride had no surprises.

The worst trip we had, was our first, we booked through a travel agent, had delayed flights, terrible room at San Remo, terrible service there and the trip home, flights again delayed and took us 18 hours to get home!
My worst experience was getting very sick the day after we got married. Ended up in Bed with a high fever for 2 days. Thankfully our last day there, I managed to have a good time and actually get out of bed and gamble a bit.

So many posting about their sicknesses, that I guess I should add mine.

Many years ago we were staying at the Holiday Inn (now Harrahs). I went looking for hubby and found him playing a dollar slot and winning right and left. I stood there a few minutes and starting feeling strange. I told him I felt sick and all of a sudden up it came. I vomited all over him, his shoes, and the dollars in the tray. Out of nowhere, two security guys appeared with a wheelchair and took me to the room. They said I probably had the Vegas virus. I think it was because I drank a screwdriver made with gin. I lay down for a while and felt better. So I went back down and hubby was still playing the same machine and it was full of dollars.

This past weekend we were staying at the Rio and early in the morning about 5:00 I got really sick and almost didn't make it to the bathroom. My stomach was burning. I thought I might have ptomaine. Hubby had some similar stomach problems, but not as bad as mine. We think it was something we ate at the Ballys Big Kitchen Buffet the night before.

One of the only bad experiences I can remember (and this one isn't that bad) was when we took our son to Vegas for his 21st birthday. One of the places we went was NY NY and we all sat down to play BJ. We all cashed 100 dollar bills and got our chips (there were 4 of us). The pit boss came over and asked my son for his I.D. We all were beaming because it was his birthday and he was 21!! He proudly gave him his I.D. and the pitt boss said -- your license is expired. We laughed and said well he just turned 21 today. He said "Sorry can't play here because he doesn't have a valid I.D." I said -- we are his parents. He is obviously 21 because his I.D. states his birthdate and it couldn't have been renewed until the day he turned 21 anyway. "Can't play here" he said. I was furious and told them we would NEVER play there again, and we have never been back.

On my first visit to Vegas I stayed at Excalibur and loved it except for the fact that I was double charged for pizza!

I ordered a pizza from room service, received it, signed the slip to add it to my room charges, tipped the delivery boy and thought no more about it. I didn't eat all the pizza either, as there was too much.

The next day I had a look at my room charges on the tv and it says I've been charged for 2 pizzas! So I ring the food and beverage people to sort it out - it took 2 days to sort it all out! Unbelievable! They didn't believe me at first and couldn't find the slip I'd signed. How they thought I could eat 2 pizzas I don't know!

Eventually it got sorted out and I was only charged for one pizza but it was very annoying and was a pain as I had to keep ringing them to sort it out when I should have been enjoying myself.

Back when the Flamingo was still owned by Hilton, My wife and I had a great room overlooking Caesars and center strip. On the second day we were worn out and decided to take a "nap" (if you catch my drift) in our room and we were just falling asleep after our "workout" when all of a sudden the door bursts open and a Japanese Couple barges in with their luggage. You could imagine the look of horror on all of our faces!

We scamble to get decent and I ask the couple WTF is going on. They didn't speak a word of English, so I called security right away. Security shows up in 2 minutes and it's obvious the Flamingo has double booked the room. I'm a pretty liberal old guy, but I just wasn' up for a foursome right then (but I could have marked it off my fantasy list as a "must" do before I die).

Anyway, secuirty takes the couple back down to the front desk and as a consolation to us, the Flamngo comped the room and gave us a free dinner in their best restaurtant. I knew Hilton was in troulbe financially at that time, but I never thought they would start doubling up strangers in the same room to save money!

It was September 2000.... I was being cheap and decide to eat at the Sahara steak and shrimp deal. My gut said DONT DO IT! Of course greed and cheapness got the best of me. Instead of paying for a decent meal I wanted to save for them dang slots.:o Not 10 mins after eating I began to feel a sour belly and a nasty scratch in my throat. I looked down at the dirty table, floor and cutlery and knew i was going to be sick.......I had to take a taxi back to Harrah's, i was viloiently ill before I could hit the door. The first time i ever puked in public:( I was sick for two whole days. Never have i eaten at Sahara again.

my worst trip to vegas was jan. 2005,i went witha girl friend on a trip that was arranged by another friend that was going , i had been to vegas several times before and was a little concerned they had booked the westwardho, but the price was right so we went for it . when we arrived we were taken to our room which was a 2 story walk up out the back door facing a garbage dump area, the curtains were held together by pins and the room smelt like vomit and urine ,we were exhasted after driving thro a terrible snow stom from ont. can. to detroit. that nite a fight broke out next door and i had to call security and the the lv police arrived . we were up at 6:30 and called our travel agent they got us over to the imperial for an extra 90.00 for the week.
when theI.P. heard what had happened they told us they would like to make up for our bad start in vegas and gave us a deluxe pool side room
thanks soooo much to the imperial an so sad to see it will be coming down. i will have my last stay there this oct . 21st

First trip to Vegas back in the summer of 1999, just turned 21, had a few too many beers during the day, fell asleep by the pool....so badly burnt had to stay in my room for the next 3 days! (Of course, my own stupid fault, but it did happen in Vegas1.) I also made the mistake that trip of eating at the Boardwalk buffet. Not sure which experience was worse....

100 + trips since 1974,, Last December 2005 staying in the Mirage it was 6:30 AM I was at the black jack table,, I could not find a cocktail server to bring me my morning cup of coffee.............

No robberies, no bad food (we don't do buffets, maybe that helps?), no bad spa experiences, no bad personal trainers, no bad rooms...

Almost 50 trips since 1990. Since 1995 we've visited 3-4 times per year and wouldn't miss it for anything!

In Feb. 2000 staying at the I.P. First morning there, in the shower, bent over to wash my legs & my back went out.Sent hubby out for ice pack & told him to go have fun, I'd stay in bed and would be fine by evening. WRONG! Could barely move. Not willing to waste entire trip, had hubby assist me to clinic that was in the I.P. I was double over hanging onto husband on one side & wall on the other.Doctor was great. Graduated from Case Medical School in Cleveland, which is where we're from. Gave me a shot of Demeral,a shot of a muscle relaxant, & a shot for nausea(demeral IM will make you sick) had me lay down for 1/2 hr. and I was fine. Went out to eat after & stayed up all night gambling. He even called the drug store and had them deliver drugs to the hotel to get me through the rest of the trip if I needed them. Saved the whole trip. I don't know if the clinic's still there but it was a great idea.I don't think I would have gone to the E.R.

Love Vegas, go about 4 times a year, and have had few bad experiences...but...

First of all, since i often travel alone, I always valet park wherever I go. Once valet was full at the Circus, and I parked in the garage - walked along the narrow path between Slots-a-Fun and Circus - as a woman alone, I had an uncomfortable feeling - nothing happened, but next time I'll either valet park, or go elsewhere.

My other bad experience was with a solo cab ride - again, traveling along - caught cab at The Sahara - the back entry on Paradise - wanted to go back to my hotel at LV Hilton - the cabbie gave me a hard time, told me he could have made a lot of money on the group of young men waiting behind me (presumably for directing them to a strip club), etc. I realized it wasn't much of a fare - but it was dark, and I had no intention of walking back alone!!

I haven't taken a cab in Vegas since - for years now, I always rent a car when travelling to Vegas!!!

On one of our first trips to Vegas, several years back, As we step off of the plane, my husband spits out a tooth! As it turns out it was a fake tooth that had come detached from his fixed bridge, you guessed it , right in front of his mouth! He was mugged, and beaten in the face several years before, had the dental work done, and had never had another problem with it. No, it waits 'til we are on vacation to fall apart. I promptly informed him that the "no front tooth, hill-billy look" would NOT be acceptable for the next 5 days (although HE would have had a blast with it!) and sent him to a phone book to find a dentist, as I checked us in to our room. Luckily he found a dentist to do a temporary fix and glue him back together. ( I would have glued a chicklet, or piece of cardboard painted with white shoe polish in there if thats what it had come down to!) $200 for a "temporary" fix, but we were smilin' again. :D

Only other bad experience involves a time share mistake we made, and the horribly rude people that work in those places......but we all know how that story goes!

All I'm gonna say is that I ingested the Emperor's Buffet at the IP, and then ended up having to make a mad dash through the Flamingo in a desperate search for the john...'nuff said!
