I'm a Diamond Card holder at Rio/Harrahs and was contacted by and assigned to a casino host earlier this year. She has been quite helpful in making my arrangements, etc. and I would like to do something for her when I'm out there in October. Any suggestions?

We bring our host something indigenous to our state. Since lobster does not travel well, we bring blueberry preserves, maple syrup and other things made in Maine. :D

Good idea. I usually give candles or similar. Will try to think of something you can only get in Texas next time. ;)

Though the vodka idea would be IDEAL for me (LOL), I haven't met my host yet and am not sure what she is into yet. Once I get to know her better, I'm sure it will be easier.

I wanna be a host for this very reason! They get some of the coolest gifts. Now, if you guys would just remember us in the same way. LOL I had a high end player sitting at my table as soon as his plane landed....he always hit the table before even checking in, something about a ritual? Anyway, he was playing a 25 dollar table, and chatting with his host...asking him if he liked the gold watch and the tickets to a laker game. He won 4000 real fast and took off to check in. Didnt toss me a dime, didnt say thank you, nothing. Oh well, hopefully he came back later and lost his house or something.

Because we are from Canada, we usually bring her something that is uniquely Canadian. Candles with a maple leaf in them, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Stuffed Bear. Just something small that shows our appreciation.

I always give mine an American Express gift check in a small thank you card.

All of the above are great ideas, especially the stuff that is specific to your area, it helps you stand out from the crowd AND hopefully they will remember you fondly next time. On the flip side, money does talk, and most people listen, I like the idea of a prepaid credit card.

I usually make up a gift bag with "Canadian" items - Laura Secord chocolates, maple syrup, etc. I also give a box of the chocolates to the desk clerks and the Player's Club staff.

Actually hosts are not allowed to take cash, although I've never know one to refuse it. I suspect they have to low-key them.

While indiginous gifts can be very nice, any decent gift will always be remembered especially if you're not really a high-roller. Hosts can make a bad situation go away quickly, or make magic happen, so if they're good to you, you should be good to them.

as i've said before, hosts/hostesses are among the best-paid of casino employees. and the more you play when you are there, the more they can potentially earn. they want you to play.

when we were tourists, before relocating here to live, we gave gifts and found that they really didn't make any difference in how we were treated or what we received.

I only give gifts once a year, around Christmas, not everytime I set foot in the casino. Have never really noticed any difference in how we were treated except when we stop putting so much money in the machines. Then they can be hard to find. Don't return calls promptly, etc.
