From the latest newsletter:
Several Las Vegas hotels are rumored to be heading toward either major
redevelopment or possibly the wrecking ball. Of the following, which
would you be
saddest to see go? Ballys, Boardwalk, Frontier, Riviera, Stardust,
or the
Tropicana.
I would be saddest to see the Frontier go. It's a friendly little place with good blackjack and a great western bar (Gilleys)
What do the rest of you think?

Don't go to these casinos, so don't really care. The Circus is nasty. Riviera is old and outdated, same with Sahara and Tropicana. Word is that Bally's will not be imploded. Just updated by the new Harrahs ownership and made into a Jack Binions' Horseshoe. (Not the Binions downtown, her brother's group from the riverboats.) :(

The Westward Ho is about to be history.

Would hate to see Stardust, Riviera, and the Westward Ho imploded. I like them because they are old ones. Wouldn't like to see every casino being a mega resort.

I would hate to see all of these Historical casinos torn down. Las Vegas will be different when they are gone, especially if mega resorts go up in there place. See to me it would be better to refurbish them

Boardwalk is going too. MGM/Mirage's City Center Project is slated for that area. Its supposed to be a self contained vacation resort with everything from grocery store, to walmart, to casino, to upscale shopping, to hotel, to condo, to medical center with emergency facilities(Which would be cool to have on the strip if you ask me). Supposedly if you stay there, you shouldnt have to leave for any reason.

I think the Tropicana and the Boardwalk are in dire need of some revamping. Bally's is fine as-is. Stayed there a while back and thought it was a great place with great prices at a great location!! Never been to the Frontier. Riviera does need some updating as well.

Wildpitcher I agree with you on the Frontier. Next to Slots of Fun, drink service is fairly fast and furious because it's not a huge mega resort. The gaming is fairly good too. But less face the inevitable truth. Donald Trump & Wynn. You know that it is on borrowed time and that the property is just to valuable to leave status quo. Hope that Gilley's will find a new home when the day comes.

Circus Circus is a dump!
All the hotels that are 7+ years old need to be refurbished
or just wrecked to start over-
The influx of people over the years with the little maintenance
makes these places expendable- :(
I would hate to see ALL of the old places go, even if we don't always get around to visiting them each trip.
Especially Stardust and Sahara!

[QUOTE=sonntex] Word is that Bally's will not be imploded. [QUOTE]
The word I hear from people at Bally's is that odds are that Bally's will be imploded. When rebuilt, it would carry the Binion's name.
As everyone knows, things can change very quickly in Las Vegas. Other than the Barbary Coast and O'Sheas, and possibly the Flamingo, Bally's is the oldest casino on the Center Strip, and it looks that way which is another positive reason for implosion.

i made the mistake of staying 1 night at the riviera and it was the longest night of my life. they need to blow that place to hell for sure. the sahara needs to remodel or implode.the stardust has vegas history you just cant replace. but the same things were said before the mirage, venetian, bellagio and many others went up. these things are going to happen no matter how many whine about it. if they build it we will come..and they know that.

Keep tearing down? Oh my . Will the strip implode within it's self? With all those condos going up why would we go there?

I just read on Casino death watch that Westward Ho and Tropicana,Broardwalk are slated for the wrecking ball.
Its sad :( to see the old places go because its a lot of old Las Vegas history.
I still remember the Dunes and the Desert Inn,The Sands and Vegas World with its crazy coupons for a free stay those were old Las Vegas classy places to play when the $5 player was King :D and you could get comped your whole trip with out even really trying too hard.
The most Classy place was the Desert Inn, mosly table games and slots were few and the sound was turned down so you could hear your self think.
Its too bad to see more old places just torn down and not refurbished back to their original glory

I would hate to see the Stardust go. Its good to see some "tradition" stick around and be able to have the memories. Stardust name just seems to be so fitting for the Vegas Strip. As far as the others, don't really care as they don' t seem to be as rooted as the Stardust, again, JMO!...love to play at the Stardust and have never stayed there..anyone tell me what the rooms are like? I keep getting mailings from them, but haven't taken them up on their offers. Would be interested to know!

Place is a dump - teeny-tiny with no truly redeeming qualities. I can see saving some of the larger oldies-but-goodies..... just give 'em a facelift, like the ol' Hollywood starlets do! ;)

Today is the day of Big Business. Public owned companies with ONLY the bottom line in mind, history be damned. The price of Strip front land demands
something be built to generate more profit. No one is longing for Dunes now that Bellagio is there!
I loved the old places and the history, but they are doomed to be replaced by Bigger and (Better?). At least there will be more places to visit and Sight See.

Where is the info regarding the HO. I keep pretty close tabs on what's happening and I seemed to miss this one.
If they are closing, why?
