We saw "Hairspray" on Broadway - what fun!

Harvey Fierstein alone is worth the ticket price - highly recommend it.

HAIRSPRAY the musical comedy phenomenon and winner of eight
Tony Awards including Best Musical, will be in performance in Feb.2006.

In HAIRSPRAY it's 1962-the 50's are out and change is in the air...
Baltimore's TRACY TURNBLAD, a BIG girl with BIG hair and an even
bigger heart, has only one passion...to dance. She wins a spot on
the local TV dance program..."The CORNY COLLINS SHOW" and overnight
is transformed from outsider to irrepressible teen celebrity.

BUT...can a pluss-sized trendsetter in dance and fashion vanquish the
program's reigning princess, win the heart of the heartthrob LINK LARKIN,
and integrate a television show without denting her 'do?
ONLY IN HAIRSPRAY!

The musical play is based on the 1988 John Waters movie by the same name that starred Divine as Edna Trunblad. It's become a cult classic and is probably available at most video rental places.

There is also a movie version of the new musical in production. John Travolta is starring as Edna.

I have my tickets for the show in Vegas for next Saturday night. It will still be in previews, but I figured this might be my only chance to see Harvey Fierstein and Dick Latessa reprising their Tony winning roles as I read somewhere (can't find it now) that they are only performing for the first X number of weeks and then their roles will be taken over by a permanent cast.

The music from this show is a lot of fun. It has a pretty neat message, too, but I'm not going to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Any idea when the 3 months start? Does it include the preview or does the clock start ticking 2/17?

April 30 ror Harvey F. and Dick L. would be about a six week engagement. That makes sense. Enough time to generate some exicitement.

Well, sorry you guys will miss Harvey, but put your faith in the talent of
the local actors to keep HAIRSPRAY happinin'!
MAMMA MIA is still going strong and uses unknown/local talent to fill their
cast and HAIRSPRAY 'should' be just as successful in doing the same.
If the play/musical is good, it will sell itself.
