I saw this in Boston and it was a hoot -- everybody I recommended it to loved it also. I was happy to see it will soon open at the LV Hilton.

Basically it's along the same lines as Forever Plaid, in the sense that the "story" is thin as crepe paper, but they're clever songs performed beautifully (assuming they get the same calibre talent, which I assume they will)

The plot is that a handful of women meet at a Bloomingdale's Lingerie sale, and fight over a bra. Soon they've bonded and their conversations over the course of the day lead to a series of parodies of hit songs, some centered on menopause and its symptoms, and some simply on the humor of aging. For example, to the tune of Staying Alive you have... Staying Awake.

It was moderately priced in Boston (~50) so hopefully it will be just as affordable in LV. There truly is lots of clever material there and a ton of belly laughs (for the menopausal and the non-menopausal!)

Is it a woman's Show or would men enjoy it also?
I pictured Shimmer Cabaret's AC flashin' from hot to cold...
the cocktail servers in tears one minute and 'takin' out' a customer the next.
It sounds like lots of fun...are there great harmonies like in 'Plaid'?

I want to see 'Dragapella' that shares Shimmer Cabaret with 'Menopause'...
I'll check the schedual and see if they're both working the same night and
see 'em back to back...check out all the new 'digs' the LVHilton has to
offer now!

The audience I saw it with was mainly women, but there were a few men there and frankly, I think they had a blast.

Not sure what they'll do with the production values, but there are conversations interspersed with somebody breaking into song. Usually solos, though there are a few numbers in which the others join in. They had some really fantastic talents in the Boston production, though. With a cast of 4 people, and the show so dependent on the music, I suppose it's easy to cast primarily for the best singers. And the material is good AND fun and well received, so I imagine it's also an attractive job for talented folks.

The music itself (what I can rememebr) is heavy on the 60s and 70s, but songs that basically anybody would recognize (Motown, BeeGees, etc.). The parodied lyrics are clever, so I'd imagine a guy could simply enjoy the singing talent and the wit of the lyrics, even if it's not exactly guy-centric material.

Here's a link to a review of one production

I've seen "Menopause" twice and it is so much fun. Both times the audiences were mostly women over 40. But a few men in that age group too. I think you have to be "menopausal" or living with someone who is to appreciate the humor. I noticed some of the younger women in the audience didn't quite get it. I would see it again in a heartbeat when I get the chance.

Definitely agree that the increased age seems to experience increased humor. Most of the guys in the audience when we saw it here in Indy were definitely in the "living with" category. We went with another couple and everyone loved it, I even bought the CD which I stuck in my wife's car and play it frequently when we are in it.

Here is an article that was in last week's newsletter:

Menopause The Musical, which opened today (Wednesday, February 1) at the Las Vegas Hilton’s 300- seat Shimmer Cabaret, sold out its first show-and that was an afternoon show! “We knew it would be a hit in Las Vegas, we just didn’t realize it would be a hit from day one,” said Alan Glist, chairman of G Four Productions, the company that produces the hit show. Inspired by a hot flash and a bottle of wine, Writer/Producer Jeanie Linders created the show as a celebration of women who are on the brink of, in the middle of, or have survived “The Change.” Showtimes for Menopause The Musical® are Mon.-Tues. & Thurs. 7 p.m., Wed. 2 p.m., Sat. 4 p.m. & 7 p.m., Sun. 2 p.m. & 5 p.m. (Dark Friday). Tickets are $49.50 (plus tax and service charge) and can be purchased at the Las Vegas Hilton box office or by visiting www.lvhilton.com or calling 702-732-5755 or 1-800-222-5361.
