Hi
We are interested in staying at the Golden Nugget. We have stayed on the Strip at the Aladdin and at the Rio Suites. We were looking at staying in the Old Las Vegas and we were wondering if it is a good idea? Would love info.
Thanks. :)

and would reccomend it highly. It's the nicest downtown hotel. I would put it up there close to the Mirage. Have a great time.

Have stayed a few times and the rooms are very nice, the nicest downtown but also the most expensive. The casino is more like a strip casino than a downtown one. If you need 'cushy' accomadations then this is the place downtown. If you want a less expensive, more typical downtown experience you might try Fitzgerals or Main Street. Our favorite is Fitzgeralds because of its location and better table games. You'll find better VP at Main Street. Good luck :)

This is the BEST place downtown, bar none and always was that way. Nice rooms, clean and modern, no bad odors, good places to eat, one of the best buffets in town, always reliable. Worthwhile for certain and better than many STRIP hotels.

Though it has been home for me for my last 9 trips and is the nicest place DT, the current ownership comp requirements (not marketing offers) have escalated to almost strip like levels. The beauty of the GN had always been its VALUE. Also in the last year or two the rake rates have gone up as well. often quite substantially.

It is my understanding that the incoming ownership will change its marketing emphasis from high rollers to the masses (like moi) :)

The rooms are nice, hotel is beautiful for downtown, but a few years ago it really was a value priced place to stay and play. Not so anymore. The last time I was there, the BJ minimums were $25 and up. I think on the weekdays it dropped to like $15 and up. Hello? You could stroll over to any other casino in the area and play for $5 and up, sometimes even less depending on time of year. I don't believe in paying for ambience while gambling, thanks very much! I'd rather take my money elsewhere. I'd sleep there, but I wouldn't play there anymore...

it is a very nice place to stay and DT is a whole different atmosphere. THe action in the outside area is lively with plenty of entertainment. stick close tho and don't wander off as it can get "iffy"

I thought the two guys from expedia made the hotel much better and they recently sold it to a bigger corporation.
I love the place, the staff is awesome. Stayed there twice and have never had a problem.
It was really crowded the weekend I went in August.

BTW I found good rates on the GN website better than hotels.com or vegas.com. I found cheaper rates at Binions and the Plaza but was happy to spend a few extra bucks for a great hotel.

I also love the Golden Nugget but you have to be careful which tower you stay in. One is a long long long, walk to the casino. Unfortunately I can't remember which one it is, North or South. Maybe someone else has that answer.

The North tower elevators are right behind check in area, nicer rooms also, south tower is a long walk, but south tower is right across from self parking ramp, when I rent a car I LIKE SOUTH tower

Well, I've stayed there, and the south tower is away from the casino, but not a long, long, walk . . . . . Some casinos, like MGM, for instance have the casino in a separate zip code. . . . The Nugget is a nice hotel, and definitely not that inconvenient. . .. My knock on the Nugget is the miniscule sports book and the high table limits .. .

The walk from the south tower didnt bother me. When I stayed in the Luxor pyramid the walk to an elevator and the casino was much longer.

The Nugget is a great place to stay. but because of the recent changes in ownership, it is probably not the best place to gamble. i used to stay there and play there. now i don't do either that often.

I wish Steve Wynn would buy this joint again. He is the reason it was the best place to stay and play.

If you do stay there you won't be dissappointed. If you can't find any games you like . all you have to do is walk to the next casino.

Stayed at GN and had a wonderful time. My wife and I love Downtown and will stay there rather than the strip. Everything is right outside your door!!! VP is tight at the Nugget and their table minimums are higher, but the accomadations are great. Have a great trip!!!!
