View Full Version : craps strategies
i will start it off.
Anyone heard of this one
it's called sixes and eights
wait for a 7 to roll and wait for a point of 4,5,9. and 10.
place bets with odds on 6 and 8
when either 6 or 8 hits take both down.
if the point is made. take both bets down and wait for another 7 to roll.
what do you think?
any others?

Play the "don't pass/don't come" and lay the odds. Especially on a point of 4 or 10.
It's added fun to win your bet whan the house wins.

When I first started playing Craps I played that way and got steam rolled. The problem with that system is you are betting 2 units (1 unit each on the 6 and 8) and only collecting money IF one of them hits. So let's say each unit is worth $6. You are putting $12 out in bets and if one hits you win $7 and you take your bet down. If one of them doesn't hit you are losing $12. I will guarantee you, and I am living proof because I have already failed at this system, that you are going to lose $12 way more thenn you win $7. The other problem with this system is that you are automatically killing huge profits should the table get hot. I have played craps for a very long time and all of the systems win sometimes but all of them also will eventually lose. Money management is the key. I do suggest that you play the 6 and 8 but give yourself a chance to make some money should the dice get hot. I personally play with the 1,3,2,6 money management system. Sometimes I will do other money management systems but all of them and I do mean all of them will give you a hefty profit should the dice got hot on either side of the table and minimize your losses should it be a bad day. After placing the 6 and 8, here are the odds and payouts:
For the "Place 8", there are 6 ways to roll a "7" and 5 ways to roll an "8". All other rolls are meaningless. Therefore, the true odds on the "place 8" would be 6 to 5 against you. However, the house pays 7 to 6. For true odds, the house should pay $7.20 on a $6 bet ((6/5)*6). In reality, though, the house pays $7.00 on a $6 bet. When you win you end up with $13.00 instead of $13.20, for a loss of 0.20/13.00, or about 1.5% house advantage.
Since it's negative expectation, in the long run you lose. QED.
The situation is exactly the same for the place bet on the "6".
By betting both bets, you're doubling the cash the house wins, but the house percentage is still about 1.5%. Each bet is at risk of the seven coming independently. It would be exactly the same as betting two bets ($12) on the 8 and nothing on the 6.
Kind of sucks the fun out of it, though, doesn't it?
PS, you can't take odds on a place bet, only on a pass/don't pass or come/DC.
I agree with the previous poster: Bet pass/don't pass and come/DC and take/lay the free odds. It's still negative expectation, but by less than 1%.

So here's what I do.
I quietly and solemnly place my bet on the don't pass line, hoping to G-d the table isn't hot. We'll use the generic "unit" to describe my bet, but believe me, the unit I use when betting will be the minimum.
So say the come out roll doesn't hit the magic seven or eleven, then the fun starts. Assuming the person does not also crap out (meaning I win), then I place my next bet based upon where the point is made. If the point is made on 4 or 10, I will put three more units on the odds of don't pass. Then I will spread an equivalent three units on place 6, place 8 and the buy of opposite of the point just made (i.e. if the shooter makes a four, i'll go for 10). Now if I make any of the place or buys, I do NOT replace those bets. If I hit a 7, I get some dough back, if not, well I'm buggered. Also, the betting goes down as the points move towards 6 and 8 (i realize the payouts change too). SO, if someone makes a 9, I play place 6, place 8, two units on the don't pass odds. If someone makes a 6 or 8, I play place on the other number (6 if they make an 8 and vice versa) and one unit on the don't pass.
The real money is made with my strategy when someone initially sets a 4 or 10, and then takes forever to hit it or 7 out, and in the process hit all my other numbers.
Tell me whatcha think, and don't sell my idea to nobody. I came up with this myself (I think).

Was playing the other day, place bets on 6 and 8 and pass line with double odds. Guy next to me drops $185 on a field bet. Guess what, the 12 hits and he doubles his money.
Some 20 minutes later he drops another big pile down and lets it sit for about 20 seconds and then scoops it up before the dice are thrown. Well a 6 hits and he looks at me and just smiles and whispers, "I had a feeling."
Just another story for the craps playing memory bank.

P.S. First post. Good board.

Too bad it wasn't a table that "triples" the 12 on the field bet!

anythings as good as any as long as you play low house edge bets
I play 3 do bets with odds then 6 donts. Logic (no such thing reallY) being hit numbers up front and wait for the "inevitable" 7 and collect on the donts. Some do and dont will cancel themselves out but result in net + wins. Its a real roller coaster and most of the time keeps you playing a long time (14 hours with my original $200 the record) Won a little bet a ton. Thats extreme. 3 - 5 hours is the norm. Sometime a table of constant short rolls or
hot rollers will put you out early. Not often though.
Be prepared to for the excruciating b__ll busting tension of having 3 4 5 (once in a blue moon 6) donts on the board and getting wiped out by a hot roller (how about losing (4) no 4'rs in a row) or a big 7 hit and the befuddled looks of others when you collect 4 5 sometimes even 6 donts when it hits. No dealer ive come across has seen this. Ive been to alot of casinos.
Not saying its a bigger winner/loser than any other way. Ive won/lost my share I would venture for $100 at a 5$ table or $200 at $10 you will get more action on the board and play a longer time than any other on the average. May walk a way a winner. Try it, if you can take the ups and downs.
Good luck
