Mama Mia Extended to 2009

MAMMA MIA!, the global smash hit musical based on the songs of ABBA, will extend a record-breaking run at the Mandalay Bay Theatre through the end of 2008.  Due to popular demand MAMMA MIA!, which was previously scheduled to end in August after more than 2,300 performances, will now play through January 4, 2009. Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus’ MAMMA MIA! is the world’s Number One Musical.  The production is the longest running and most successful full-length Broadway musical to ever play Las Vegas. “2008 will be a remarkable year for MAMMA MIA!,” said global producer Judy Craymer.  “This February marks the 5th anniversary of the show in Las Vegas, and this July sees the nationwide release of the movie adaptation of MAMMA MIA!  I feel very proud that the show remains an anchor entertainment on The Strip at Mandalay Bay and it has paved the way for other blockbuster shows from London and Broadway to be able to play in Las Vegas.  We have been very fortunate in partnering with Mandalay Bay, who continues to support and promote MAMMA MIA! in every possible way with us.” MAMMA MIA! opened in Las Vegas on February 13, 2003, and will celebrate five years at the Mandalay Bay Theatre next month.  Combining the timeless music of ABBA with a universal tale of love, laughter and friendship, The Washington Post declares, “The consensus choice for best musical!  Fabulous, funny and endlessly clever, it brilliantly weaves those familiar ABBA songs into the plot.  If you can get a ticket, you’ll love it!" Bill Hornbuckle, president of Mandalay Bay, said “MAMMA MIA! epitomizes everything that the Las Vegas experience is about – energy, excitement and above all else, fun.  We are thrilled to work with such wonderful partners and together will ensure that the next year with MAMMA MIA! is as fun and successful as the last four years have been.”  Seen by over 30 million people worldwide, and with three companies currently playing in North America, MAMMA MIA! currently has 10 productions playing around the world in five different languages – more than any other current Broadway musical. The phenomenon that Liz Smith calls “The most popular musical in the world!,” has surpassed a gross of $2 billion in worldwide box office sales. Inspired by the story-telling magic of Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus’ songs, writer Catherine Johnson’s sunny, funny tale of family and friendship unfolds on a Greek island.  On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.  Songs including “Dancing Queen;” “The Winner Takes It All;” “Money, Money, Money” and “Take A Chance on Me” are all featured in this feel-good night of fun and laughter. The feature film adaptation of MAMMA MIA!, produced by Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman, will be released in the summer of 2008. Meryl Streep leads an all-star cast featuring Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper. With music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, MAMMA MIA! is written by Catherine Johnson and directed by Phyllida Lloyd. MAMMA MIA! has choreography by Anthony Van Laast, production design by Mark Thompson, lighting design by Howard Harrison, sound design by Andrew Bruce and Bobby Aitken, and musical supervision, additional material and arrangements by Martin Koch. MAMMA MIA! is produced by Judy Craymer, Richard East and Björn Ulvaeus for Littlestar in association with Universal.

The performance schedule for MAMMA MIA! at the Mandalay Bay Theatre is Sunday - Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m. & 10 p.m. There is no performance on Friday.

Tickets for MAMMA MIA! are $110, $82.50 and $49.50, tax inclusive. Tickets are available by calling the Mandalay Bay Box Office at 800-632-7400, Ticketmaster at 702-474-4000 and online at www.mandalaybay.com or www.mamma-mia.com

BELLAGIO’S CONSERVATORY & BOTANICAL GARDENS
USHERS IN CHINESE NEW YEAR WITH DRAMATIC EXHIBIT.
Beginning January 14, Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens will celebrate the 2008 Chinese New Year, the Year of the Rat, with a unique display filled with hidden meaning.  The Conservatory’s design will be guided by the ancient practice of Feng Shui – the art of using surroundings to attract harmony, balance and positive life energy.

The dramatic centerpiece of this exhibit will be found perched atop an oversized, flowering branch.  Here, a botanical, 5-foot-tall rodent will watch guests with an inquisitive eye.  The auspicious rat’s lush coat will be made of red Alternanthera, a low-growing herb, with a touch of pink Hypoestes, a tropical plant.  His long curling tail and delicate whiskers will be made of metal.

Legend has it that Buddha asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year.  Twelve came.  The rat is revered for its place as first in the Asian zodiac and is a symbol of renewal.  Those born in the Year of the Rat tend to be intelligent, charming and practical.
Just steps away from Bellagio’s delightful rodent ambassador, an 18-foot-tall Chinese God of Wealth and Fortune will be found amidst gleaming I-Ching coins, a traditional Chinese money symbol.  Widely recognized as the strongest symbol of good fortune in China, the God of Wealth and Fortune will be flanked by two Ming Dynasty-styled dings, ancestral vessels that protect against bad luck.
Nearby,
visitors will find a zigzag bridge leading to a beautiful, wing-tipped gazebo painted a deep red lacquer with shimmering gold trim and green-tiled roofs.  The color red signifies happiness while the upturned roofline will ward off evil spirits and the sharp pattern of the bridge will protect against negative energy and bad spirits.  A majestic mountain, seen as a pillar between heaven and earth, will serve as a dramatic backdrop.
The teachings of Feng Shui also will be used to purposely position the flow of water into Bellagio’s Conservatory, and not away, ensuring the flow of positive energy.  From a tranquil Koi pond to a shimmering waterfall, water will denote the larger world we live in while carp will signify good luck and everlasting good fortune.

Visitors are invited to celebrate Chinese New Year in Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens January 14 through March 15.

We are proud to announce that Sushi Roku and BOA Steakhouse celebrate the New Year with new accolades by garnering two Citations in the Interior Environment category by the AIA Nevada, the state chapter of The American Institute of Architects. With both restaurants featuring cutting-edge design by YWS Architects, the AIA Nevada Excellence in Design Awards Program recognizes exceptional architectural excellence throughout the state.

Sushi Roku embodies a minimalist style with bamboo, chiseled stone and dark wood decor creating an environment both refreshing and tantalizing to the senses. Luxurious interior with wood flooring, a leather bar top, steel bamboo accents and walls of concrete, wood blocks give the restaurant its edgy sense of style. At Sushi Roku, tranquility and style unite to create an environment both refreshing and unique with large windows offering extraordinary sights of the lights from Las Vegas Boulevard.

BOA Steakhouse evokes a contemporary, modern feel. The restaurant offers a second-story terrace overlooking the neon glow from the Strip. Beautiful two-way frosted glass, grey slate toned walls, a 800-year-old driftwood centerpiece and stainless steel decor all showcase its modern design. F&B cover Boy rocker makes a stop in Las Vegas at the Palms on February 2

While thousands are in town for football, some have good ol’ fashion rock ‘n’ roll on their minds. This Big Game weekend, The Palms will be chock full with festivities, including a headlining concert with our friend and TheVegasEye.com reader Sammy Hagar. The singer truly began to be a household name in the mid ‘80s when he fronted the already formed Van Halen, replacing David Lee Roth. Hagar comes to The Pearl Concert Theater on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at 8 p.m. for what is sure to be a winning performance. Visit www.palmspearl.com for more infomation.

After leading multiple bands throughout the ‘60s and ‘70s, Hagar went solo for some time before joining the rock group Van Halen. In the late ‘70s, he released a self-titled album which went gold. In 1981, he released Standing Hampton, followed by 1982 Three Lock Box – the albums reached platinum and gold status respectively.

In 1984, before joining Van Halen, Hagar released VOA which featured the popular song “I Can’t Drive 55.” The following year, Hagar became the new voice of Van Halen and recorded 5150 which was released in 1986. Hagar remained with the band through several years and several hit albums including For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991), Live: Right Here, Right Now (1993) and Balance (1995).

The following year Hagar was back on the solo track with much speculation on his departure from Van Halen. The media attention helped propel his first solo release Marching to Mars (1997) in to the Top 20. It was Hagar’s first solo release in more than 10 years. He followed his reemergence as a solo artist with the release Red Voodoo in 1999. Hagar released more solo albums with the most recent being 2006’s Livin’ It Up!

YOUR NEXT BEST BETTE IS AT THE RIVIERA IN `"AN EVENING AT LA CAGE'
Brent Allen may well be the best celebrity female impersonator extraordinaire of the Divine Miss M
It’s been some 15 years since Brent Allen first set foot on stage at The Riviera Hotel in Nobert Aleman’s "An Evening At La Cage".
"So much has changed in Vegas since I first moved here" Allen recently said. "There is so much more competition now." Allen, who impersonates Bette Midler and Judy Garland in the larger than life production show, isn’t kidding. His latest ‘competition’ is Bette Midler Herself.
With the Divine Miss M preparing to launch her "The Showgirl Must Go On" production just down The Strip. Allen has been staying busy fine-tuning his craft to keep his impersonation of Midler as fresh and contemporary as possible. "I always try to keep up with what Bette’s doing. I mean, if she changes her hair, I change mine. Or if she adds a new signature look to her act, I try to replicate it. It’s not always easy". It may not be easy but Allen makes it look that way down to the last sequin.
When asked how he feels about Midler’s new show Allen said "I’m thrilled! I’ve been a huge fan of hers for years. More years than I care to think about! I saw her live for the first time back in 1973. Of course, that was YEARS before I ever dreamed of impersonating her. And I’ve seen her in concert so many times since. And Seeing her in concert is seeing her at her best. She is so dynamic on stage." It’s that dynamic effect that Brent works so hard to recreate in each performance of "La Cage.".
So, if seeing Midler in 1973 was years before he ever dreamed of impersonating her, just how did this dream come to be? Allen laughed and said "It was a complete fluke! I entered a look-a-like contest on a dare and I won. The nightclub that sponsored the contest asked me to join the cast of a weekly show that they had at the time. I said yes and one thing just led to another." And that’s how Allen found his niche.
In addition to "An Evening At La Cage" Allen boasts an impressive resume including numerous television appearances. He also toured with fellow ‘La Cage’ star Jimmy Emerson in a two man show that he recalls was "So much fun. A hell of a lot of work, but great fun". Allen says that he prefers working as part of an ensemble cast. "I always wanted to be an entertainer, but never really wanted to be a ‘star’. That makes being in ‘La Cage’ the perfect job."
"An Evening At La Cage" runs six nights a week Wednesday thru Monday at 7:30 p.m. Dark Tuesdays. No one under the age of 12 will be admitted without an adult. The ‘La Cage’ Theatre is located on the third floor of The Mardi Gras Entertainment Complex. Tickets and information are available at (702) 794-9433 or visit the Riviera Casino Box-Office.

The 3 Redneck Tenors, who made a strong appearance on last year's America's Got Talent show in their tee-shirts, jeans and tuxedo tails with long hair have booking dates when Carrot Top is dark at the Luxor's Atrium Showroom: Jan. 3-7, Feb. 6-12, March 19-24 and April 23-28. Tickets are $30, $40 and $50.

The show 3 Redneck Tenors - A New Musical Adventure! follows three singing cousins, Billy Bob, Billy Joe, and Billy Billee, from their modest beginnings in Paris, Texas, where they discover that belting out a high C causes pigs to move faster and bar brawlers to scatter, all the way to their triumphant debut at New York's famed Carnegie Hall. It's basically a comedy-musical redneck romp, with the tunes of Elvis to Puccini, country to opera and much more.

The musical comedy featuring classically trained veteran artists from Broadway and world opera stages is like Greater Tuna meets Das Barbecu - with down-home laughs and big-city music.

The Golden Nugget downtown unveiled its $60 million expansion in time for the New Year's Eve festivities. The addition, just west of the current property location, offers a large multi-purpose events center called The Grand, expanded gaming floor, new Red Sushi Japanese restaurant, and Gold Diggers, a nightlife venue that opens onto an incredible 180-degree, oversized balcony with grand views of the Fremont Street Experience. Gold Diggers opens nightly at 4 p.m.

This addition brings the total in renovations and expansions at the Golden Nugget to more than $170 million since the property was purchased by Landry's Restaurants in 2005. Previous renovations and additions to the world-renowned AAA Four Diamond Award-winning property include The Tank, a $30 million pool with live shark aquarium complete with its own pass-through, three-story waterslide; restaurants Vic & Anthony's Steakhouse, Grotto Italian Ristorante, Lillie's Noodle House and The Buffet; a Race and Sports Book, Poker Room and redesigned casino floor; RUSH Lounge, an ultra-lounge experience in the center of the casino floor; The Showroom, an intimate, 600-seat theater hosting headline entertainment; renovated luxury spa, salon and fitness center; and ultra-modern Gold Club rooms located on the 16th and 17th floors of the hotel's North Tower.

New York City's highly-acclaimed RUB BBQ has opened with a new location inside the Rio. This is the restaurant's second location and only venue outside of the New York. The 9,000-square-foot RUB BBQ features championship-level barbecue created by Paul Kirk, aka The Kansas City Baron of Barbecue and The Ambassador of Barbecue, who will make frequent appearances. The eatery also features a stage for local as well as well-known artists to perform on the weekends.

The 230-seat restaurant, which includes a 30-seat bar area, is a modern take on the industrial loft look allowing guests to enjoy their barbecue favorites in an open, high-energy atmosphere. Wall accents of deep, fiery reds contrast with the weathered metals that are set near aged brick and warm rustic wood floors and ceiling beams.

RUB BBQ is located on the second level of the Rio's Masquerade Village. It is open for dinner from 4 p.m. - 11 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, and open for lunch and dinner beginning at 11 a.m., Wednesday - Sunday.

Last year's main event for the World Series of Poker drew 6,358 entrants who competed for a prize pool of $59.8 million. The world champion collected $8.25 million. This year's event will start on May 30 with the $10,000 buy-in world championship of pot-limit hold 'em.

The traditional finale, which is the $10,000 no-limit Texas Hold 'em world championship event, will happen from July 3-16.

The 55-event schedule will take place at the Rio and attract both low-limit amateur players and high-limit professional standouts. Last year over the whole tournament, a record 54,288 entries participated for a record total prize pool of $159.8 million, which was funded by player entry fees.

The Automobile Association of America (AAA) has named the Golden Nugget downtown on Fremont Street as one of its coveted 2008 Four Diamond award winners for the 31st consecutive year, upholding the record for a lodging establishment in the state of Nevada. Only 14 hotel establishments in the United States have earned the revered Four Diamond rating for 31 consecutive years or longer.

Nevada hotels claimed 21 AAA 2008 Four Diamond awards, a new state record, and 16 of the award-winners are located in Las Vegas and Henderson. The AAA awarded 883 Four-Diamond awards throughout the United States for 2008.

AAA has also honored 23 MGM Mirage hotels and restaurants with its esteemed Four Diamond Award.

The Signature at MGM Grand, a luxurious all-suite resort, is one of only two first-time hotel winners in Las Vegas for 2008. Located in three distinct towers, The Signature offers the ultimate in personalized attention in a serene, non-gaming environment. MGM Grand has received this distinction for the second year in a row.

Additionally, the property is home to seven AAA Four Diamond restaurants - L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon, Fiamma Trattoria and Bar, Craftsteak, NOBHILL, SEABLUE, Shibuya and Pearl. Combined with the 2008 AAA Five Diamond SKYLOFTS and Joël Robuchon, MGM Grand has the most AAA Diamond Award winners under one roof than any other hotel in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico.

Down the Strip, Mandalay Bay and THEhotel at Mandalay Bay also received elite Four Diamond status. The hotels boast four Four Diamond restaurants - Aureole and Fleur de Lys as well as first-time winners Strip Steak and MIX.

At Bellagio, AAA again honored four restaurants with this prominent ranking - Sensi, Jasmine, Prime Steakhouse and Shintaro. Four Diamond Awards also were bestowed on The Mirage, Treasure Island plus Monte Carlo and its famed French restaurant Andre's.

Star Trek: The Experience celebrated its tenth anniversary at the Las Vegas Hilton on Jan. 4. The original $70 million 65,000-square-foot complex featured the Klingon Encounter attraction and, along with the Deep Space Nine Promenade and Quark's Bar and Restaurant, was an immediate hit. New additions, the multi-million dollar Borg Invasion 4-D and the Secrets Unveiled Backstage Tour, have added this attraction.

Four years, 40 cities and six countries after its world premiere, Menopause The Musicalr celebrated its international success with the debut of its Las Vegas cast production at the Las Vegas Hilton on Feb. 1, 2006. It became an immediate hit and on Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. the show will celebrate its 1,000th performance at the resort.

The La Concha, a 12,000-square-foot building that was a former motel lobby next to the Riviera on the Strip, is going to eventually be the lobby for the Neon Museum at the southeast corner of north Las Vegas Boulevard and McWilliams Street. The clamshell-shaped, glass-and concrete structure will be getting some modern upgrades including restrooms and ultraviolet windows. Plans also call for doubling the building size.

The dramatic curvy La Concha structure was designed by Paul Revere Williams - a mid-century architect responsible for more than 3,000 buildings. One of his most famous projects was the LAX International Airport space-age looking building. He also designed several homes for celebrities including Frank Sinatra, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Anthony Quinn, Lon Chaney Sr. and Lucille Ball. He became the first black member of the American Institute of Architects in 1923.

Sometimes when you travel, you want to find locals especially in a place like Las Vegas where one of the most asked questions has been, "Do people really live here?" Here are a couple of off-the-beaten-path places.

The Downtown Cocktail Room located at 111 Las Vegas Boulevard holds a LoPro mixer every Thursday starting at 5 p.m. The event is intended to create an environment where people can mix and mingle without the added pressure of creating a working relationship. The idea is to really get to know someone in a relaxed atmosphere. The club has a Bohemian chic and elegantly intimate atmosphere.

Now the Double Down Saloon, located at 2620 Paradise Road near the Strip and the airport, has a real reputation and might best be referred to as a dump. But it's really a saloon with an anti-establishment attitude that attracts every type of person from business folks to punk rockers. The 24-7 joint has been open for more than 15 years and has its busiest times between 10 p.m. and 10 a.m. The controversial bar has live music four nights a week with bands that play anything from punk to psychobilly.

A restaurant downtown that mostly locals know about is Chicago Joe's at 820 S. Fourth Street. The Italian restaurant, which was a former residence and still looks like a house, has been open since 1975. The restaurant hours are from 11 am. to 10 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturdays. It's closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Resolve to play smarter. By Bill Burton
Wow! Another year flies by and now we head into a new year. Each year many of us start by making resolutions to improve ourselves or change some undesired habit. You know the ones I'm talking about. We all have made and broken them year after year. They sound good on New Year's Day but most resolutions go out the within a week or two. Some psychologists theorize that the reason this happens is because we don't have the passion required to give it our full effort in order to make I work. The resolutions and goals that do get achieved are the ones that we enjoy doing and find pleasure in accomplishing.

This year you could make a New Year's resolution to "have more fun in the casino". That sounds simple enough but if you are like me, the real fun in the casino comes from winning. In order to be a consistent winner you have to play smarter when you visit the casino. So let's change the resolution from" have more fun in the casino to "I resolve to play smarter in the casino!" Here are some suggestions.

Station turns free blues down a notch. By Jerry Fink/Las Vegas Sun.
Santa Fe Station won’t be singing the blues.

The casino has discontinued free blues entertainment on Wednesday nights at its club, Chrome.

“Santa Fe just needed a change,” said Joe Santiago, vice president of entertainment for Station Casinos. “We will have free blues concerts there from time to time, mixed in with paying concerts.”

Blues guitarist Walter Trout will perform at Chrome for free Feb. 22.

The change doesn’t affect the popular Boulder Blues series free blues concerts held each Thursday at the Railhead at Boulder Station. Upcoming shows include Scott Holt on Jan. 17, Debbie Davies on Jan. 24 and Little Charlie & The Nightcats on Jan. 31.

Santiago says there will be more blues headliners at the Railhead on Fridays and Saturdays.

“You never know what I’m going to do,” says comedian George Wallace, who’s injured but not sidelined from his act. By Jerry Fink/Las Vegas Sun

If George Wallace’s routine looks a little like Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Fireside Chats these days it isn’t because this is the political season (which it is) or because the comedian uses presidential politics for fodder (which he does), it’s because Wallace tore his Achilles tendon and is performing his act from a chair.

“It’s the worst injury you can have,” Wallace says from a chair in Atlantic City, where he went for surgery to repair the tendon. “It takes a year to heal, so I do my act sitting.”

The accident happened about three weeks ago during a private show at the Bellagio.

Boyd revamps its players clubs. By Liz Benston/Las Vegas Sun

Are you a ruby, a sapphire or an emerald?

Boyd Gaming next week will unveil a revamped Club Coast players club with three tiers of rewards. Tiered players clubs, pioneered by Harrah's and Station Casinos, are all the rage. They generally offer more perks to high-volume gamblers than generic plans as an incentive for players to move up the ranks and are based on gambling volume rather than losses.

The new Coast club is part of a big technology upgrade at Boyd, which has now merged the club offered at its Coast-branded casinos with other Boyd properties, including Sam's Town, downtown casinos and non-Nevada casinos.

Previously, players at Coast properties couldn't combine their rewards with other Boyd casinos and vice-versa.

Intricacies aside, this also marks a cultural shift for Boyd, which bought Coast Casinos in 2004 but for years has operated Coast as a separate entity. Coast founder Michael Gaughan continued to run his enterprise after the merger but exited the company in 2006, which gave Boyd the green light to begin combining operations more efficiently. The slot club was the last piece of Coast to be combined into the Boyd family.

FIREWORKS AND REVELERS DRAW GLANCES ON STRIP.

Las Vegas' annual fireworks show to welcome Baby New Year went off without a hitch as thousands of people crowded Las Vegas Boulevard and the Fremont Street Experience to say goodbye to 2007 and ring in 2008.

Tourism officials expected 303,000 people to visit Las Vegas for the celebration. Some of them paid big-ticket prices for star-studded parties at Strip nightclubs. Thousands more braved the chilly air to party on Las Vegas Boulevard and see the fireworks show in the sky and the oddballs on the street.

As the clock struck midnight, John Melton of Memphis, Tenn., screamed toward the sky with his hands in the air as fireworks boomed overhead: "I can't wait to win some money, party and kiss my wife. If I die today, I'll be happy."

Palazzo casino opens on Strip

Las Vegas Sands Corp. opened the casino portion of the Palazzo, just in time for the busy New Year's Eve holiday.

"We received our final permits, and we are able to start the soft opening," Las Vegas Sands spokesman Ron Reese said.

While the casino and lobby areas opened, the Palazzo's 3,068 hotel rooms were still unavailable. Reese speculated the rooms would open in time for the resort's Jan. 17 grand opening celebration.

The Palazzo, which is being built to adjoin The Venetian, is the Strip's first new hotel-casino since the April 2005 opening of Wynn Las Vegas.

MIKE WEATHERFORD: Wynn giving 'Le Reve' a lift.

Steve Wynn figures he could postpone this battle, maybe sit it out altogether. But he just can't bring himself to do it.

Nightclubs are the Strip's new cash cow; some of the big ones ring up $70 million a year, he notes. Ticketed shows, on the other hand, might clear $15 million after paying about 150 performers and stagehands.

"Why even bother?" he asks.

Of course the question is rhetorical. Otherwise, Wynn wouldn't be sitting at a "family and friends" rehearsal of "Le Reve" on Dec. 21, instead of getting an early start on his holiday vacation.

Paris Hilton was the people's choice for most annoying while illusionist Criss Angel was Vegas Tripping's pick.

Stratosphere step closer to changing ownership

The $1.3 billion sale of the Stratosphere's parent company to an affiliate of Goldman Sachs was recommended for approval by the state Gaming Control Board on Wednesday.

Whitehall Street Real Estate Funds is buying American Casino & Entertainment Properties, a gaming subsidiary controlled by billionaire corporate raider Carl Icahn. American Casino is also the parent company of both Arizona Charlie's casinos and the Aquarius in Laughlin.

Whitehall managing director Stuart Rothenberg told regulators most of the gaming company's executives and property management will remain in place after the sale's closure, which is scheduled for next month.

American Casino Chief Executive Officer and President Richard Brown, who ran the company for eight years under Icahn, will continue to run the company's day-to-day operations.
