Luxor Changes
$300 million de- themeing of the Luxor in progress7/20/07 The Luxor is loosing its Egyptian theme to attract the nouveau-hip crowd. The name of the resort will remain Luxor and the mega-watt light beam on top will still permeate the night sky. 80% if the interior of the resort will be renovated.
Changes will include:
LAX nightclub replacing Ra.
Liquidity an exclusive bar in the center of the casino with a watery theme.
CatHouse, a restaurant and ultra-lounge replaces Isis and Sacred Sea.
Flight, a new nightclub.
Noir Bar, an ultra-exclusive nightspot designed to cater only to elite clientele.
Nefertiti’s Lounge has already been replaced by the more modern Aurora Lounge.
The 24 restaurant will be remodeled and renamed.
Criss Angel will join Cirque du Soleil in a new theater (late 2008).
The guest rooms in the pyramid will be remodeled by 2009.
The casino will loose the hieroglyphics for a water motif.
The Sphinx outside may be removed (rumored).
Both the pool area and the Luxor Steakhouse will be remodeled next year.
The atrium level will become more adult with the addition of more restaurants, lounges and entertainment venues.
Treasure Island was the first to partake in this de-themeing and started the trend. MGM dumped the Wizard of OZ theme. The Mirage followed, by replacing most of its lounges and restaurants and removing the Tiki Hut ceiling-decor from the casino. Planet Hollywood was next and is almost complete with its de-arab-ing of the former Aladdin into a hip, chic resort. Vegas is growing up mentally as well as physically.

Harrah's: Tower open, safe.
Officials investigate remodeling.
By JOAN WHITELY and ARNOLD KNIGHTLY LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL.
But upstairs in the Ipanema, county building officials are investigating whether the company remodeled 17 floors in the tower, mostly in 2005, without obtaining proper permits or safety inspections. Clark County Development Services opened its investigation after prodding from an extensive Review-Journal examination of allegations, made by remodeling workers, that safety had been compromised. Last week, the county department issued six notices of violation to Harrah's involving floors three through 19 of the Ipanema Tower. Some local and state leaders have expressed concern the community's reputation as a tourist destination might suffer because of the negative publicity sparked by the Rio. Rock outlasted 11 other competitors during the culinary boot camp to earn the coveted title of head chef at Terra Verde, the resort’s newest upscale culinary offering. Terra Verde is open Sunday through Thursday from 5 -10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 5 – 11 p.m. Reservations are recommended by calling 702-617-7075. Hung Huynh, an executive sous chef at Restaurant Guy Savoy at Caesars Palace, was among a trio of challengers who advanced to the finals of Bravo's "Top Chef" competition during's Wednesday's episode. The finale, filmed in Aspen, Colo., airs next Wednesday at 10 p.m. The Maccioni family of the Cirque fame might be putting a restaurant or two in MGM Mirage's $7 billion-plus CityCenter. They operate Le Cirque in New York as well as Le Cirque and Circo del Osteria at Bellagio. Entertainer Terry Fator, who gained national popularity when he recently won NBC-TV’s “America’s Got Talent” show and then announced he was headlining at the Las Vegas Hilton on October 14, sold out that show, and added another performance on October 15. That one’s selling out, which leads to the rumor of the day: Will there be another Fator show, possibly in December? Jeff Beacher had a big surprise waiting in the wings at "Beacher's Madhouse" on Saturday. Beacher unveiled Big Britney, a 275-pound copycat version who bore a striking resemblance to Beacher performing a spoof of Britney Spears' lame comeback attempt at the MTV Video Music Awards at the Palms. The evening included KISS bassist Gene Simmons being pulled on stage by Leonid the Magnificent and Mena Suvari checking out her boyfriend, dancer Mike Cordasco. More health issues caused Celine Dion to cancel shows Thursday and today. A statement was released Thursday evening saying Dion is "fighting a viral infection (gastroenteritis) which causes fever, muscle cramps, dehydration and a number of other discomforts." She is on doctor's orders to rest, her spokeswoman said in the release. Dion has been bothered by recurring health problems during her 41/2-year run at Caesars Palace, which ends in December. When she returns Saturday, she will have 20 shows left. ReviewJournal.com - News - NORM The Scintas' new show, "Laugh Out Loud," answers one of the most-asked questions I hear: "What's the best lounge show for those of us who love a vintage Vegas experience?" This one is loaded with serious laughs, plus cameos by Frank, Sammy, Elvis and Liberace amid a mix of more recent favorites. Show times at the Hilton's Shimmer Lounge are 9:30 p.m. Friday through Wednesday and 2 p.m. on Monday. ReviewJournal.com - News - NORM: Las Vegas chef takes top honors Jerry's Nugget offers 3 sizes of prime rib. The English cut is $6.99, the thick cut is $12.99 and the MONSTER cut is $29.95. This cut is rumored to be about 3 pounds of meat. Look for the Nevada Palace to close in March. Taxi fares in Las Vegas are going up again. You will be paying an extra 10 cents as soon as they drop the meter handle plus an additional 20 cents per mile. Renamed: The Great Moments Room at The Vegas club has been renamed to Great Moments Cafe. It no longer has the gourmet restaurant atmosphere. The Great Moments room was one of Las Vegas' hidden gems. The buffet at Fitzgerald's has reopend after extensive reservations and has been renamed The Courtyard and Grill Buffet. After dinner I suggest you walk directly over to the showroom to see Larry G. Jones' show. NORM: Robuchon burger is a big, tasty hit . The burger, a French version of the slider, is so popular that Robuchon, who has been acclaimed as the "Chef of the Century," has added it to menus throughout his gastronomic empire, from Paris to Asia. Robuchon, during an interview at Joel Robuchon at The Mansion in the MGM Grand, said the burger was one of the few concessions he made to Americanize his Las Vegas menu and the acceptance has been "amazing," he said. Numbering two to an order, the item goes for $32 at L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon, the sister restaurant next door to Robuchon's high-end eatery where a 16-course menu goes for $360, the six-course for $225. The seared foie gras is served in a miniature bun topped with sesame seeds, slivers of sauted red, green and yellow bell pepper and a ginger gastric sauce. A side of French fries accompanies the burgers. "It's one of our most popular items," said Emmanuel Cornet, general manager at L'Atelier. Robuchon's Atelier in Paris had difficulty in getting it on the menu at the start because of problems finding buns that small in Parisian bakeries. That's not a problem in Las Vegas because Robuchon has his own bakery on-site. In another tidbit of news, Robuchon revealed he is opening his next restaurant in Israel, in a historic district in Tel Aviv. He has restaurants in eight cities, including New York, Monaco, Macao, Hong Kong and London. Robuchon is in the kitchen at his MGM Grand restaurants through Sunday. ReviewJournal.com - News - NORM: Robuchon burger is a big, tasty hit MIKE WEATHERFORD: Manilow hitting the road again. When Barry Manilow announced his deal with the Las Vegas Hilton in late 2004, exclusivity was a big part of the coup. "After 30 years of living out of suitcases, I just wanted my life back," the easy-listening king said back then. "Wouldn't it be nice if I could continue to make music and entertain audiences but didn't have to go on the road?" The entertainer will be packing his bags again for a brief December tour of arenas in New York, New Jersey, Cleveland and Detroit. The Hilton considers it an album promotion, not a breach of the exclusivity. "We're fine with that," says Hilton spokesman Ira Sternberg. The arena dates "build excitement to come see him in Las Vegas." The Hilton should be fine with anything Manilow decides to do. Signing him turned out to be one of the smartest moves on the local entertainment scene. At the outset, the hotel had no guarantee their star would receive any exposure that wasn't bought and paid. But since he began performing there, Manilow has delivered a trio of top-selling albums. "The Greatest Songs of the Seventies," his third in a decade-by-decade series of remakes, arrived last week. Last year, the "Sixties" album hit No. 2 on Billboard's album chart, and the "Fifties" set the year before charted at No 1. The new one debuted at No. 4, with first-week sales of 113,000. Manilow will have another album out in early November, the jazz-flavored "In the Swing of Christmas." He reopened at the Hilton on Tuesday and has 34 more shows scheduled this year. ReviewJournal.com - Living - MIKE WEATHERFORD: Manilow hitting the road again Tuesday-Steak Night The St. Tropez Buffet at the Suncoast Hotel and Casino will now be referring to Tuesdays as “Steak Night” rather than “Ribeye Night.” Tuesday-Steak Night Upscale in everything but price, The St. Tropez Buffet features seven unique serving stations: Italian, Mexican, Mongolian, Seafood, BBQ, Chinese and Dessert. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Upcoming Las Vegas Entertainment

ReviewJournal.com - Neon - TICKETS: James Taylor coming to Vegas SHOW REVIEW: Celine Dion in "A New Day" Show Evolution: Celine Dion has grown into 'A New Day' If you waited this long to see Celine Dion at Caesars Palace, you probably waited too long. At least you'll miss "A New Day." There are 12 more performances through Oct. 14, then another 13 from Nov. 29 to Dec. 15, before the Canadian superstar moves on to a world tour and new challenges. Each of the 25 shows is sure to bring an early Christmas to ticket brokers on the "secondary market." The marketing blitzkrieg that's sure to surround the Nov. 13 arrival of her new album, "Taking Chances," will only rub your face in it. But take heart, fans. Returning to the Colosseum last week after a mere 10-day break, the singer told the audience, "This is what I'm missing." This late in the game, people might presume she's "been there, done that," Dion volunteered. But the truth, she claimed, was that even a short absence made the heart grow fonder. Hooters has opened the new game show "Bonk" in the Night Owl Showroom. It features tricky questions and physical mayhem Sunday through Friday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $14.95. The show's host and creator is comedy club veteran, Kerry Pollock. His assistant is Bonk Babe. “Bonk” begins with three randomly chosen contestants wearing helmets and holding soft foam mallets. The helmets are equipped with sensors that ring when the helmet is hit by a contestant “bonking in” and answering a question. The first round is strictly self-inflicted bonking. Contestants score points for a correct answer, lose points for an incorrect answer. When a contestant reaches 10 points the round ends and the low scorer is eliminated. The remaining two contestants face off in the “Back BONK” round. The questions in this round get tougher and opponents may not only bonk themselves, but may bonk their opponent. The winner of this round is a finalist and given the opportunity to win a prize by taking the "BONK Challenge." There, they are asked to name 10 items from a given category within 30 seconds while being bashed on the head by the BONK Babe. This process is repeated three times producing three BONK winners. At the end of the third game, the three winners then compete in a single round finale known as the "BONK Bash." This is a free-for-all where all three contestants may hit themselves or any of the others in a race to 10 points to determine the champion, who is crowned with the mirrored BONK disco helmet. The winner gets the grand prize, which may include an overnight stay at Hooters, dinner and much more. Celebrity roaster and insult comedian, Vinnie Favorito, will celebrate his contract re-signing with O'Sheas with a free "Check Your F*#@ing Attitude at the Door" Italian-style festival with games and gags on Friday, Oct. 5, from 7 to 10 p.m. Favorito will perform a show at 8:30 p.m. Show tickets are $39.95, call 702-733-3333. Congratulations to "V-The Ultimate Variety Show" on its fifth anniversary. From the start, it was a great idea to string together Las Vegas best specialty acts that normally fill a 10 to 15 minute slot in a major Strip spectacular show. Last week, when the Nevada Gaming Commission blocked efforts to allow gamblers to insert debit cards into kiosks for cash-equivalent vouchers that then could be used in slots, regulators scored points with problem gambling advocates who feared the devices might enable compulsive gamblers. Others, though, accused the commission of hypocrisy, saying the vote was a public relations ploy that allowed regulators - and by extension, the casino industry - to claim credit for addressing problem gambling while nixing technology that would not have significantly boosted casinos' profit s anyway. Whatever the motive, the decision will cost some gaming suppliers millions of dollars in potential sales and chill future efforts to introduce technology designed to make gambling more convenient. Lure was decked out in mod furniture with white onyx floors and mood lighting. It had a quaint outdoor patio with lush greenery and a fire pit. But it just wasn't good enough. Several million dollars later, the setup had been torn out and redesigned from top to toe. Roger Thomas, Steve Wynn's chief interior designer for more than two decades, splurged on silk wall treatments, self-designed furniture and hand-blown chandeliers at the resort, then the world's most expensive. Lure was equally well-appointed. But in Thomas' view, the first incarnation lacked an amped-up Vegas vibe. "It would have been difficult to make a film at Lure," Thomas said. The new club, named Blush, "is more cinematic." Wynn Las Vegas now claims to control the largest chunk of baccarat business on the Strip. But MGM Mirage executive Bobby Baldwin, the company's chief design and construction officer, says Bellagio, which posted its greatest profit after Wynn opened up the Strip, won't lose out to competition. Baldwin says he is overseeing the adjacent Bellagio and Monte Carlo in addition to his current duties managing CityCenter to safeguard the properties' futures. "Bellagio's going to be more successful after CityCenter opens, not less," he said. "But it takes coordination for that to happen. If CityCenter was opening as a single enterprise I'd simply steal all the customers from other properties. I won't be doing that when CityCenter opens." http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/consumer/2007/sep/25/566639221.html Perchance to dream. These and other questions you’ll ponder as you enjoy Le Rêve, a beautifully conceived presentation of a dream at Wynn. Set in an extraordinary circular theater surrounding a pool of water, A brilliant red hue, a recurring element throughout the meditation, is found on caps, shoes and costumes as well as in the lighting. The intensity builds and wanes. The pool’s depth changes within seconds to accommodate the mood. Passions and intrigue run deep; frivolity skips across the shallow surface. At times every inch of the intimate theater is filled, from birds flying overhead to dozens of beautiful images suspended from the ceiling to As much aerial adventure as aquatic spectacle, Le Rêve is the creation of Cirque du Soleil visionary Franco Dragone. Acrobats and dancers interpret the majestic music; divers and swimmers precisely time their splashes to the rhythm. Performers display glorious athleticism and a graceful balance as they spin and swing, fall and fly. Down low in the theater, the audience is enveloped as part of the show. In the middle rows, the theatrics mesmerize from high above and deep below. Higher up, in the plush seats of the VIP Indulgence section, audience members take it all in, sipping on champagne and enjoying chocolate-covered strawberries. Individual monitors allow the view of an underwater camera to help fulfill a budding curiosity about how it’s all put together. As memorable images of rain, snow, trees, fountains, planets and even the Sistine Chapel are vividly presented, interpretation of the dreamscape can be as varied as the number of eyes, ears and souls in the audience. Consider universal questions of love and loneliness, hope and despair, and life as a spiritual journey. Dipping into an infinite well of human creativity, Le Rêve prolongs that fleeting moment between consciousness and slumber, where reality is blissfully confused with fantasy. Le Rêve Behind The Neon Lights Of Vegas. By: Crisn Carney/Las Vegas magazine You came to the desert to eat, to gamble and to see a show or two. Bravo to you, that’s what Las Vegas is all about. But beneath the obvious, hidden under the neon glow, are little-known facts, places and oddities. What’s in a Name? Agua Fresca Let There be Light Big, Big Buildings Beds, Beds and More Beds What Kinda Shop is This? Luck Ain’t no Accident So avoid bad luck, search out the oasis and slip between the crisp sheets. Just never lose your sense of wonder about the most exciting city in the world. Las Vegas Top Ten Values-October 2007 from The Las Vegas Advisor 1. Shrimp Cocktail - Golden Gate - 11 am-2 am - 99¢ The Golden Gate Casino downtown has been serving its cold-water Bay-shrimp cocktail since 1959. It’s been 99¢ for the past 15 years. It comes in a tulip cocktail glass with lemon, crackers, and a tangy homemade sauce. It’s served at the Deli in the back of the casino. 2. Sign-Up Promotion - Arizona Charlie's Boulder - Daily - $100 Rebate And we’re replacing the players club sign-up bonus at Stratosphere with the sign-up bonus at Arizona Charlie’s. The Stratosphere deal (escalating freebies for play, including $100 in bounce-back cash) is still good, but the Charlie’s deal is better. New members who lose between $5 and $100 on their first day of play can swipe their card at the players club kiosk when done playing, and the kiosk prints out a ticket that states the loss amount. Take the ticket to the players club booth, where the club card is loaded with the amount of the loss. Now you have to play through that once on a machine of choice and whatever’s left can be cashed out. This last step is new and takes away the element of complete risklessness (you can lose a little on the play-through of the giveback), but it’s still pretty close to a $100 free-shot, with a very high upside. Another way to think about it (if you’re happy enough just to increase your play time) is that you get to take a second shot with your losses. Either way, it’s strong. Just remember to stop playing and get your rebate after you’ve lost the first hundred. 3. Beer - Casino Royale - Daily - $1 We’ve replaced the $1.25 beers at Slots A Fun with $1 Michelobs at the center-Strip Casino Royale. This is a 24/7 deal and the bar staff is ultra pleasant about doling ’em out (it’s not uncommon to encounter a staff that’s resentful of this type of deal). You can also get two flavors of frozen margaritas for a buck apiece. Bottom line, though: Beers for $1 are better than beers for $1.25. 4. Steak & Eggs - Arizona Charlie's Decatur - 24 hours - $2.99 Like the steak special at the Gold Coast, the classic round-the-clock steak & eggs special served 24/7 at both Arizona Charlie’s has been available for more than 10 years, but the price has been raised only once, from $2.49 to $2.99. Note that the coffee shop at Decatur is extremely popular with locals, so there’s often a line to get in. Check the counter, which often has a seat or two. And while you’re there, take a $100 slot or video poker free-shot on the house. 5. The Comedy Stop - Tropicana - Daily - $19.95 The Comedy Stop at the Tropicana stays in the Top Ten, based on a recent visit that proved it an even better value than we thought. 6. Steak Dinner - Gold Coast - 24 hours - $10.95 After revisiting the venerable complete steak dinner at the Gold Coast for our "Classics" round-up, we decided that this 24-hour 16-ounce T-bone, which comes with five sides and a glass of beer, is just too good not to be included. Though it's gone up in price over the years (it started a decade or so ago at $5.99), the rest of Las Vegas's prices have since passed it, so it's now a Top Tenner again. 7. Hot Dog - Suncoast - 11 am-5 pm - 75¢ The 75¢ all-beef hot dog available from a vendor cart in the sports book at Suncoast replaces the 75¢ all-beef hot dog available from a vendor cart in the sports book at South Point. They’re the same price. They’re available the same hours. And they come with the same kraut and onions at no extra charge. So why Suncoast and not South Point? Because following another time-honored Top Ten tradition, ties go to the coupon. What that means is that Suncoast participates in the LVA coupon program while South Point doesn’t. So by going to Suncoast you get the added benefit of being able to play your $5 matchplay from the POV while there. It’s a good and fair tie-breaker that also serves to support those who support us. 8. Breakfast Special - 4 Locations - 12 am-11 am - $1.49 New to the Top Ten this month is a $1.49 breakfast special served from midnight to 11 am at the newly designated “Wild” Station casinos. At $1.49 for two eggs, two bacon or sausage, hash browns, and toast, this is the best breakfast we’ve seen hereabouts in a while(d). The previous deal at WWW, which flirted with a listing, was $1.99 and ran from 11 to 11. This one’s nearly equal on the hours and better on the price, plus it’s available in four locations. 9. Buffet - Planet Hollywood - Daily - $13.99-$24.99 The Spice Market Buffet is back where it belongs (after a stint in a ballroom during the changeover from Aladdin to Planet Hollywood), so we’ve also put it back where it was in the Top Ten. Though we only tried the weekend brunch, we were impressed enough to replace the Mirage. The prices are still below most other gourmet spreads (Bellagio, Wynn, Paris), so for now, it’s our prime buffet pick. 10. MNF Parties - 3 Locations - Mondays - Free Football is here, which means football parties will be the highlight of Monday nights through December. For the past several years, the parties at Boulder Station and Sam’s Town, both on Boulder Highway, have featured a free beer and hot dog (sometimes a hamburger) each, and this year both parties will be back for another season. Combine the two by running to the other at half-time and get a couple dogs and a couple beers, all gratis. Suncoast is added to the party line-up this year giving us a third location. Diablo's Cantina gets gold star of originality. A devilish twist to the nightlife scene commenced this past weekend, with Diablo's Cantina jumping into the mix with a much-anticipated soft opening. If this was any indication of what is to come at Diablo's, the Light Group should have a nice addition to its stable. What makes Diablo's special is its uniqueness, giving patrons something completely different when it comes to venturing out to a local hot spot on any given evening. The 13,000-square-foot, multilevel entertainment complex is going to get "a lively, fiestalike atmosphere," according to Alex Acuna, director of public relations for Light Group. All you have to do is walk or drive by the establishment one time to see this isn't your standard venue. Think about a combination of Fat Tuesday's, Margaritaville and any typical nightclub and you have Diablo's, which gets a gold star for originality and creative concept. The official opening comes next month, so expect a lot of noise to be made right from the get-go. Anticipate some saucy, debauchery-filled events orchestrated by marketing/promotions director Wayne Crane, who did a whole lot with very little turning Mist lounge inside Treasure Island into a lively venue during his time running the show there. SHOW REVIEW: V — The Ultimate Variety Show Flashing Back: Style, format of variety show transports audience to another era. This is the new old Vegas. Sure, the performers in "V — The Ultimate Variety Show" are still young pups compared to active seniors such as Don Rickles and Tony Bennett. But neither of them juggles, twirls a bolo to knock a flower out of somebody's mouth or supports the weight of another guy on his head. Many of the "front of curtain" acts in "V" have been doing that stuff for ages. The hand-balancing team of Iouri Safronov and Nikolai Meinkov opened "Mystere," the show that ushered in a new era for Vegas back in — can you believe it? — 1993. But if age makes it harder to do their slow-motion athletics, you don't notice it yet. And a touch of grey kind of suits an Argentine gaucho anyway. When Hugo Latorre says for maybe the 8,000th time on a Vegas stage, "I'm not gay, but my boyfriend is," his winking smile has a little extra comic resonance. "I sing for my team, for God and for Ronnie Dunn ," said Keel, who fronted a heavy metal band before he had a conversion and turned country. "I pretend every night he's in the back row and I hope to do him proud." The fledgling "Country Superstars Tribute" show at Fitzgeralds is certainly nothing Ronnie Dunn would be ashamed of. It's an energetic production that features tribute artists backed by an equally talented five-piece band, which is in itself unusual in this day of taped music. It took country music singer and Marine Dave Hoover, a veteran of Operation Desert Storm in 1990, about 15 years to make the journey. Now, instead of snipers with rifles he has to watch out for critics with pens. "It's been a little rough start because of the slow season, but we believe in the show and I love the family environment we have with the cast and crew," Hoover said. "I feel blessed and grateful and I'm hoping this is a stepping stone. This is a growing process for us." Hoover portrays Tim McGraw in the Country Superstars Tribute production that debuted this summer in the small showroom at the casino on Fremont Street, a fun show that's capitalizing on the nation's renewed interest in country music. Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay is dressing up for Halloween for the sixth consecutive year to give costumed kids all the tricks – and treats – they seek. As visitors walk the aquarium’s dark and eerie tunnels, they will pass ghostly decorations and frightening pumpkins lining the walls. Not all things will be creepy. “Trick or treat” will be the cry of the fearless youngsters who enter this underwater haunted house seeking reward for their bravery. Shark Reef Aquarium staff will be on hand with treats for children traveling the spooky hallways in their Halloween costumes. United Blood Services will join the Halloween festivities. IN RECENT YEARS, THE LAS VEGAS POPULATION BOOM has coincided with an equally formidable travel-writing explosion among local writers. Consider CityLife news editor Matt O'Brien's Beneath the Neon (a grim tour of Vegas storm drains), or Jack Sheehan's Skin City (a superficial examination of our adult-entertainment industry), or Steve Friess' self-explanatory Gay Vegas. Every entertainment writer in town, it seems, has just brought out an unusual tome on Vegas or is busy meeting a deadline on one. What else could explain Sterling Publishing's choice of Zamora the Torture King as co-author of Weird Las Vegas? More Here: Unfortunately it's a matter of supply and demand. Since there are more players than table space the casinos can raise the limits and still fill many of the seats. The sad reality is that, it also makes more economic sense to the casino to have higher limit tables even if some of them are not full. More Here: From "The Vegas Eye" Beacher's Rock-Star grudge match challenge. Stemming from the highly publicized scuffle between Kid Rock and Tommy Lee at the VMA's, Jeff Beacher, voted by Rolling Stone Magazine "The Best Showman on The Strip" has called out both of these strapping rock-stars and challenged them to settle their differences in the ring in a winner takes all battle. "We all know that they are fighting over Pam Anderson and what better way to settle their differences than to slug it out in the ring!" Fight or not, on Saturday September 29, catch the Fall Series Grand Opening with special guest Host Gary Dell' Abate. Kiss legend Gene Simmons will also be in attendance. Conventions bring in huge money to Las Vegas. The influx of conventioneers is always good business for the casinos and the shows. The Scintas are moving back into the Las Vegas Hilton…officially opening October 2nd; the Scintas will be performing in the Shimmer Cabaret. It is the same spot that they made their Las Vegas debut seven years ago…they spent a year there (in what was then called "the Nightclub at the Hilton",) and then spent five years at the Rio, and most recently at the showroom at the Sahara. It will be wonderful to see them in a small venue again, and now with Asient Entertainment producing them, the show is said to be seventy percent all new material. It will be a treat. Vinnie Favorito has just re-signed at O'Shea's casino for another contract. Favorito is a world-class insult comic that is absolutely wonderful. You must go and see this man. The Krave nightclub, also known as the Harmon Street Theatre is packing a full schedule of shows in their facility now. Starting at 1:00 will be Bottom's up, at 3:00 will be Doggone Funny, 5:00 & 7:00 is Little Legends, and the day will end with The Fashionistas—who just moved back to the Krave from the Empire Ballroom. With the exodus of the Fasionistas from the Empire, that leaves only two shows running in that venue—Joey & Maria's Wedding, and The Soprano's Last Supper. All of the shows at the Empire Ballroom seem to have been struggling…in fact, The Soprano's Last Supper no longer even offers a supper…it is now just appetizers and cocktails. The Gazillion Bubble Show is going to be moving into the Steve Wyrick Theatre. It should a lot of fun. Bubbles as entertainment is something that I have loved since childhood, but as the saying goes, "you ain't seen nothing yet." The finale of the show promises to fill the theatre with bubbles of every size and shape imaginable. The Pure Aloha Festival kicks off on Friday, October 12 at 6 pm with an evening concert of popular Hawaiian and Polynesian musical acts. The evening's lineup includes Fiji, who will be launching his new CD, "Xperience," and Cool Progression, winners of "Brown Bags to Stardom 2007," Hawaii's biggest high school talent competition. Drop Demons are the latest addition to the already horrifying experience known as Fright Dome, ranked 4th Scariest Haunted Attraction in the country by AOL. Multiple Drop Demons will unexpectedly fall from the sky and torment passers by. Dressed in professionally designed costumes and intricate masks as they descend from the ceiling, these flights of horror will induce blood-curdling screams from all that they encounter. In addition to the Drop Demons, Fright Dome also will add new attractions such as a terror-filled Wax Museum, a haunted 4D Special FX Theater and the haunted house, Killer Clowns in 3D. Spectacular freak shows will feature the engrossing Swing Shift Sideshow, Insane Entertainment and Lady Diabla. The returning, red-haired, femme fatale, Lady Diabla currently is on tour with Ozzy Osbourne's Ozzfest 2007. She will spook audiences by driving nails four inches into her head, lying face down on broken glass and swallowing swords. Fright Dome will offer five enhanced haunted houses, including all new Cell Block 13, Chainsaw Massacre, Morgue of Misery, Cavern of The Living Dead and the brand new Killer Clowns in 3D. Three spine tingling ride films, four extreme scare zones plus rides and attractions. Pitch black and fog filled, Fright Dome will set a chilling atmosphere with the dramatic Drop Demons, roaming scare monsters, high-powered strobes, multi-colored lasers and eerie sound effects. Andre Agassi's 12th Anniversary Grand Slam For Children will be at the MGM this month. The Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation (AACF) has assembled another superstar line-up of entertainers for an unforgettable evening of music and other entertainment to benefit Las Vegas at-risk youth. Performers include Tony Bennett, Matchbox Twenty, Carlos Santana, Kelly Clarkson, Jerry Seinfeld, and many more. The stars will take the stage Saturday, Oct. 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Halloween is always an interesting day in Las Vegas. Most available venues will host some sort of costumed ball—usually having to do with some sort of sexual content, and the more outrageous the better. There are a couple of Fetish and Fantasy balls, several Erotic balls, and the Pimp an' Ho ball, of course. It's a strange night and not one for the timid. It will continue to be a huge party weekend in Las Vegas. With the addition of the third annual Vegoose Music Festival to what was already a busy social calendar, Vegas continues to prove that there might not be a better city in which to celebrate Hallow's Eve. Of course, one sure highlight will be the 41st annual Beaux Arts Ball, a huge costume bash which will help raise money for the Golden Rainbow Foundation. Studio 54 always goes above and beyond on Halloween with a whole week of parties…be sure not to miss this year! After all, it is Halloween in Las Vegas… Freakling Brothers, the creators of Las Vegas' premier haunted attractions, will terrify visitors again this year as it celebrates its 31st anniversary in Las Vegas. By concentrating on primal fears, relying on the power of live performers, and employing the art of theatrical illusion, Freakling Brothers will once again frighten yet delight thousands of Las Vegas' bravest thrill seekers! The haunted attractions are scattered throughout the Vegas area, so there will always be one within close proximity. And not to be outdone, Madame Tussauds' is going to have live characters as well. Freddy Kruger has moved to Las Vegas from Elm Street. So has Crystal Lake's unstoppable monster Jason Voorhees and Leatherface, toting his chainsaw from Texas. The three most frightening horror movie characters in Hollywood history are now scaring guests at the new "Chamber of Horrors, Live" experience at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas. Characters of Freddy (A Nightmare On Elm Street), Jason (Friday The 13th) and Leather Face (Texas Chain Saw Massacre) will be portrayed with special effects and live actors to create the ultimate in scare maze experiences. Guests will walk through a number of themed environments where they should expect the unexpected! Clark County's largest Halloween celebration featuring the Broken Spoke Saloon 20-acre haunted corn maze opens during the middle of the month. The ghosts and goblins will haunt the attraction for the last three weekends. Call 864-2277 or see the web site at www.GLENDALECORNMAZE.com. The 20-acre corn maze will baffle anyone seeing it from the air. This is an art form developed in the Midwest and will be an amazing site from the air. The cornfield is four acres by five acres. Las Vegas is the Entertainment Capital of the World, but it didn’t start off that way. The piece of desert was named sometime in the 1800s by the Spanish, who used the spot as a watering post along the Old Spanish Trail that connected Los Angeles with Santa Fe, N.M.. The name translates as The Meadows. They came for the water, hidden underground in artesian wells.
It all started with the water, and water still dominates Sin City. Everywhere you look, there is water. Pools reflect sun off beauties at Wynn and Caesars Palace and cool down hard bodies at the Hard Rock. One of the most magnificent expressions of man’s power over water is the Bellagio fountains, which gets most of its water not from Lake Mead, but from the same artesian wells that drew the Spaniards so long ago.
Water may be rare in Vegas, but light certainly isn’t. There’s the scorching sun that can top 121 degrees in summer. After sunset, 15,000 miles of neon tubing brighten the Strip and downtown. Most impressive of all is the 30.2 billion lumens light cannon atop the Luxor. To give some context, a good projection TV clocks in at 1,000 lumens. Luxor’s beam is so bright it can be seen from the airspace above L.A.
Where else in the world can you see a pyramid, the Eiffel Tower, a Roman palace, the canals of Venice and the tallest free-standing building west of the Mississippi, all without getting out of your cab? Nowhere. Where the originals were built to celebrate dead kings, living emperors and a revolution, Vegas built them to house revolving restaurants and beds to rest your head before the debauchery begins anew.
Vegas has lots of beds. The city boasts 15 of the 20 largest hotels on the planet and more than 124,000 rooms. And the king of the jungle is MGM Grand, with a whopping 5,690 rooms and growing. It is the second-largest hotel in the world and is so huge that the linen department washes 15,000 sets of sheets a day.
Vegas is legendary for shopping. Among the normal and extraordinary are a few stores that just make you say, “Huh?” M&M’s World clearly lands in this category. As does the Barry Manilow store at the Las Vegas Hilton, where you can give your rendition of Manilow’s top hits to entrance your friends. Or accentuate your feminine side with a wig from Serge’s Showgirl Wigs.
Vegas has many visitors from Asia, and for a time, the city couldn’t avoid unlucky omens. The MGM’s emerald façade was a turnoff to Asian visitors who consider the color unlucky, as was the 80-foot lion at the entrance. It was demolished. But Vegas learned its lesson well. Wynn has no elevator floors that start with the number 4, deemed unlucky in many Asian cultures.

High Table Game Limits by Bill Burton
One of the biggest complaints I hear from players is that the minimum bet for the table games are high especially on the weekend and other busy times. Areas with only one or two casinos and even Atlantic City on a weekend all suffer from the lack of tables to accommodate the lower limit players.

"I thought it was the perfect opportunity to put these two Rock N Roll icons together in the ring. This feud has been going on for years," says Beacher, "I am speaking to their management teams to negotiate the fight. The winner will receive 1.5 million dollars. Winner takes all." Stating that he is willing to cancel his little person wrestling league M.U.F.F. Micro Unprofessional Fighting Federation for the evening and give these guys the ring for the night, Beacher seems determined to make this thing happen. If he gets the green light, the fight would take place on September 29, 2007 at 9pm, at Beacher's Madhouse in the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.
"I have already spoken to a couple of the odds makers here in Vegas and Kid Rock would be the favorite, they are saying that Tommy Lee is just too old and beat up."
Beacher's Madhouse is a popular playground for young Hollywood and mega celebrities alike. Paris and Nicky Hilton, , Jessica Simpson, Quentin Tarantino, Brittney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, John Stamos, Kelly and Jack Osbourne, Nick Lachey, Wilmer Valdaramma, and Jon Bon Jovi have all been guests at Jeff Beacher's Madhouse.
