NEVADA GAMING REVENUE: DOWNTOWN DIMS.
By Howard Stutz/Las Vegas Review Journal

While the revenue earned by Strip casinos continues to feed Nevada’s record-pacing year, downtown gambling halls are heading in the opposite direction.

The closure of the Lady Luck and renovations at Fremont Street casinos were the primary reasons cited for the more than 14 percent drop in gaming revenue in August, the third straight month that downtown casinos’ win declined.

Meanwhile, the statewide gaming win in August raced to its third-highest monthly total this year, numbers released Tuesday by the Gaming Control Board show.

Bid for Harrah’s tops $15.5 billion

Jump comes as stockholders file lawsuit saying first offer too low.
By Howard Sturz/Las Vegas Review Journal

A higher bid by two private equity firms seeking to purchase casino giant Harrah’s Entertainment didn’t surprise gaming analysts, who said Wednesday the initial bid of $81 per share was too low.

The New York Times, citing unidentified sources close to the negotiations, reported Wednesday that New York-based Apollo Management Group and Texas Pacific Group of Forth Worth, Texas, had sweetened the bid for Las Vegas-based Harrah’s to between $83 and $84 a share, jumping the buyout bid from $15 billion to more than $15.5 billion.

The newspaper reported that Harrah’s company directors had rejected the original week-old offer.

As if opening the first new Playboy Club in 20 years right here in Las Vegas wasn’t enough reason for Hugh Hefner to celebrate, the 80 year-old media tycoon and purple robe-wearing hero to teenage boys everywhere was immortalized with a “celebrity star” Saturday afternoon at the entrance to Brendan Theaters inside The Palms Casino Resort. The dedication was hosted by jolly English television personality Robin Leach, who received his own star in 2005. Other inductees include action star Sylvester Stallone, TV Superman Dean Cain and Oscar winner Nicolas Cage.

A favorite old Vegas haunt is in for a makeover: Skinny Dugan’s, the longtime sports bar on West Charleston Boulevard long favored by fans of the N.Y. Jets, Giants and Nebraska football, has been sold and is undergoing a guts-out renovation. Brothers Fred and Bob Keck, who owned the pub since 1973, have sold to Fred Gluckman and Margot Aiken of Del Mar, Calif., who plan a full-scale upscale (yet retro, which is why the name will not be changed) remodeling of the bar that should be finished by January. Before Skinny Dugan’s, the parcel was the site of Embers, one of the fancier steak houses in Las Vegas. (Construction workers tearing out the walls have uncovered vintage red-velvet wallpaper.)

A Palms high roller was touring The Playboy Club recently when he experienced one of those oh-no moments. As he was being shown the men’s room, which features dozens of Playboy centerfolds under a clear plastic surface, he saw a familiar face — his bride-to-be, wearing only a deep tan. They were married Saturday.

NORM: Minnelli chooses Sammy highlight.

Ask Liza Minnelli to single out her giddiest Las Vegas moment, and the words burst forth like a champagne geyser.

“I loved it when Sammy (Davis) and I did a special show at 2 in the morning after we had both done shows,” Minnelli said. “We did a special show for entertainers. It was at the Riviera, and it was sensational.”

Stay tuned. The “Cabaret” icon, who opens a three-night engagement tonight at the Luxor, hinted that something special could be in the works during her Thanksgiving engagement.

“I’ll do it again. But I’m not going to say I’m going to do it because I haven’t talked to anyone about it yet.”

And don’t be surprised if she ends up next to you on some of the thrill rides. That’s her inner child, still fizzing like vintage bubbly.

But the words stop flowing when the subject turns to the $10 million spousal abuse lawsuit filed by her estranged husband, David Gest.

A New York judge recently dismissed the case.

After a long pause, she said, “The word ‘dismissed’ (another pause) has never sounded so good. That’s ALL I’m going to say.”

Would she consider returning to Las Vegas as a resident headliner?

“The show is so difficult. I don’t think I can do it every night. I can do it three nights in a row; then I need a day off.”

She added, “My vocal chords are made of iron, thank God.”

‘Turning the Tables’
Rudner’s latest book is wild romp through Las Vegas.
By Len Butcher

Another run of bad luck at video poker after hitting for $1,400, plus facing surgery, has not made me a happy camper, but that doesn’t mean I can’t bring you good news and what better than to tell you that you will have a chance to meet comedian Rita Rudner this Saturday, Oct. 14, at The Forum Shops at Caesars.

The very funny lady will be signing copies of her new and fourth book, “Turning the Tables,” and posing for photos with you from 3 to 4 p.m. I’m sure this will be reserved only for those of you who buy the book. “Turning the Tables” is a story of revenge that takes place in Heaven, a fictional Las Vegas casino (you wanna believe it with a name like that). The book is described as a wild romp through the corrupt and sexy landscape that defines the country’s hottest city.

Voted “Best Comedian in Las Vegas” in the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Best of Las Vegas poll for the past five years, we have seen Rudner go from a one-month booking at the MGM Grand in 2000 to a permanent engagement at New York-New York’s $1.2 million Cabaret Theatre built exclusively for her. She ended her five-year run there this past August and is now performing at Harrah’s. So if you’re a fan, and would like to get a copy of her book and a photo with her to show off to all your friends, now’s your chance.

STAR FOR SIEGFRIED & ROY

Speaking of Siegfried and Roy, the two Las Vegas legends were presented with their own star last week in front of the Siegfried & Roy statue at The Mirage, where they performed for more than 13 years before Roy was seriously mauled by a tiger during one of their performances. At the ceremony, they said: “Our passion and love affair with Las Vegas began the first day we arrived over 30 years ago. The residents and visitors of what immediately became our hometown have allowed us to live our dreams and our fantasies. We have fulfilled our destiny of carrying on the traditions of magicians and magic.”

The Las Vegas Walk of Stars was developed in cooperation with Clark County, which sanctioned four miles of sidewalk to the east and west of Las Vegas Boulevard South between Sahara and Russell. Similar to the “Palm Springs Walk of Stars,” located along the sidewalks of Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, Calif., the Las Vegas project honors people of prominence in a variety of fields including entertainment, sports, literary, humanitarian, civic, military and pioneers. Each star is a three-feet-square slab of polished granite weighing 180 lbs. and inlaid with the recipient’s name and specialty.

Other recipients (with location of star and when they were received) are: Wayne Newton, Frontier Hotel, October 26, 2004; Liberace, Riviera Hotel, February 01, 2005; Frank Marino, Riviera Hotel, February 01, 2005; Rich Little, New York-New York, February 15, 2005; Line Renaud, Paris Hotel, October 24, 2005; Dick Jensen, Frontier Hotel, November 05, 2005; Mel Larson, Circus Circus, January 09, 200; Toni Hart, MGM Hotel, April 27, 2006; Chester Simms, Flamingo Hotel, May 06, 2006; John Stuart, New York-New York, May 30, 2006; Richard MacDonald, New York-New York, June 07, 2006; and Wayne Allyn Root, New York-New York, August 15, 2006. SHOW REVIEW: “Bottoms Up”

Things are Looking ‘Up’: Vintage ‘Bottoms’ revue gets yet another shot at Fitzgeralds.
By Mike Weatherford/Las Vegas Review Journal

What seemed lost on the Strip seems found downtown.

The 42-year-old “Bottoms Up” revue, a genuine artifact by Las Vegas standards, seemed like it finally was ready to ride off into the sunset when it closed at the Flamingo two years ago this week.

The resilient show cropped up every few years and had a good four-year run at the Flamingo. But this time, really and truly, it appeared Las Vegas had evolved beyond the blackout-comedy show that first played the Castaways (where The Mirage now stands) in 1964.

But creator Breck Wall didn’t give up so easily. “Bottoms Up” has resurfaced in the enclosed lounge at Fitzgeralds and guess what? It really feels at home there. The six-person revue — three comedians, three dancers — fits just about perfectly in the cozy venue, and the retirement-aged crowd was laughing it up. Seniors seem to be getting swept aside on the Strip because they’re not buying $400 bottle service at Pure. But they still come to town and their money still spends.

“Bottoms Up” is a tricky show to describe — and for some, tricky to watch — because so much of it depends on how you respond to comedians Wall, David Harris and Sue Motsinger. It’s all about personality and their ability to sweep you into the creaky sketches.

Take the bit with Wall and Harris miming to song snippets as they pull various props out of a trunk. There would be little that’s funny about most people holding old green Princess phones and mouthing the words to Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald’s “Indian Love Call:” “When I’m calling you-u-u-u… You will answer too-o-o-o….”

But it’s funny here, because of how long these guys have known each other. Because of how long they’ve been doing the bit. And because they still seem to find it funny. Harris has this pliant face that recalls Buddy Hackett and Jimmy Durante, and a deadpan style that never lets him over-enjoy what he’s doing.

If the two don’t break you down when they hold up the light bulb (”You Light Up My Life”) or the pizza pie (”That’s Amore”), they’re gonna get you when Harris pulls out the Depends box during Britney Spears’ “Oops! … I Did It Again.” If not, you might as well pack up and leave. It doesn’t get any better.

Well, almost. The sketch about the men’s room urinals — better if you don’t ask — with Wall, Harris and male dancer Bryan Yates is reined in and so well-timed that it shows you what these guys are capable of if, well, they weren’t so set in their ways.

Even so, there is something to be said for old performers pretending to be even older: Harris and Motsinger as Ebeneezer Geezer and his squeeze Maydelle singing “Instead of Parcheesi, how about a little squeezy?” Or Motsinger as “Fatsy Cline” pulling a picture of Bill Clinton, a crutch and a golf club out of her cleavage as she croons “She’s Got You.”

And you can’t say the show overstays its welcome. The performance I caught ran only 50 minutes because a wardrobe malfunction kept Harris from doing his Cher spoof.

Is it possible to get someone under 60 to see “Bottom’s Up”? I offer the same idea I posed in 2000: Instead of the pointless dance interludes with Yates, Carrie Proffett and Amy Geldhos, rendered even more pointless by the tiny stage and minimal lighting, why not turn “Bottoms Up” into a burlesque revue?

The recent Miss Exotic World burlesque reunion, also held downtown at the nearby Celebrity Theatre, proves there’s a younger following for this vintage entertainment. Plenty of performers are preserving strip-tease routines as old as the jokes in “Bottoms Up.” Some of them are young, and some of them old enough to chase Harris around the stage or help him in and out of his Cher costume.

From “Eye On Vegas”

Let’s start this week’s Eye on Vegas with a bold statement; the new nightlife ventures opening at The Palms this weekend, Playboy Club and Moon Nightclub, are complete, never before seen, hybrids in the United States and both will absolutely be a smash hit! After gratefully receiving exclusive sneak peeks of the two venues, along with the new Italian restaurant from the N9NE Group titled Nove (or nine in Italian), we might just have some insight on the matter. Scott DeGraff and Michael Morton, owners of the N9NE Group, along with George Maloof, owner of the Palms, have gone above and beyond in creating the next round of Vegas nightlife and raising the bar for things to come. With three new venues opening on the roof of The Palms’ Fantasy Tower, the N9NE Group is not only here to stay but they will play a significant role in the future of Vegas nightlife. The three venues are strategically stacked on top of each other with a purpose, to own a guest for the entire night. “We envision guests starting with dinner at Nove and going from there,” states Mike Fuller, N9NE Group’s main man of marketing, while pointing out escalators that connect all three floors. “After dinner they can head up to Playboy, have a few drinks, meet with friends, and wager in a little bit more relaxed environment before going up one more floor where the nightclub will be in full effect.”

The Playboy Club isn’t a new concept, in fact 22 of them previously operated in cities around the globe, however, the last of which closed in Manila 15 years ago, and at The Palms the concept gets a new grown-up and modern look in the place it was most perhaps meant to be, Las Vegas. Playboy Club isn’t a nightclub as much as it is a high-end gaming ultra lounge. “Never before has gaming been introduced into a nightclub atmosphere,” notes Fuller, with a smile while checking out the progress of the club as it nears its October 6th opening. From the moment the dual elevators open into the club, patrons will realize they are entering a special kind of venue. Red leather walls coat the foyer and a diamond backed main bar inset with the infamous Playboy name greets patrons as they enter. All of the gaming tables are located to the east with four tables on each side of a large diamond inlaid support beam. “The gaming tables and chairs are on hydraulics so they can be raised or lowered to a players preference,” Fuller continues while adding that both blackjack and roulette will be available as well as a limited amount of electronic gaming. While the gaming tables replace the dance floor in the middle of the venue, sharp red and black leather couches surround the gaming area creating a tantalizing view of the action and no doubt increasing gaming drops as the alcohol flows liberally. Above the casino, four Philippe Starck designed Baccarat crystal chandeliers add a classic and elegant look. Surrounding this portion of the club are several sheer black curtains bunched together with over-sized, almost tribal designed gold Playboy holders. Along the entire south wall of this portion of the club is a wall of approximately 50 picture frames that are actually plasma screens flashing through a Playboy Archive of 20,000 pictures ranging from magazine covers, to pin up shots, to pictures of some of Playboy’s most famous centerfolds, it is an absolutely stunning element of the club. Everywhere you look the famous bunny ears meet you, from the diamond shaped designs in the dark carpet to the ‘70s faux wallpaper turned to glass partition that encircles the sunken gaming/lounge floor. The other side of the club features more of the traditional ultra lounge look with oversized brown snakeskin chairs and large high backed black booths creating a VIP lounge area. Another plasma screen sits above an elongated fireplace, surrounded in a large gold picture frame, enabling even more branding opportunities. In the bottom of the fireplace rest yet more diamonds enabling the fire to seemingly sparkle in an outlet full of surprises. “You will not find anything painted,” Fuller adds while pointing out brown leather bricks that create one wall in the lounge, “We’ve used different finishes and material to give every wall and ceiling a unique look and feel.” The VIP bar is surely a sight to be seen on its own, a gold multi-tiered collage of Playboy logos and shapes creating one of the most unique back bars we’ve seen in our time. “The musical format will remain mostly rock in this room,” says the former DJ, “but later at night or for special events that might change a bit.” Add into the mix retrofitted classic Playboy pinball machines, bathroom wallpaper that might make you blush, Roberto Cavalli-designed uniforms for the next generation of Bunnies and it’s no wonder we’re convinced it will be a hit.

If Playboy Club introduces gaming to the nightclub environment and the Playboy lifestyle to Las Vegas, then Moon Nightclub introduces what might be a snapshot at the future of nightlife. Located one floor above Playboy and on the roof of the Palms’ new Fantasy Tower, Moon is a boutique nightclub experience that certainly seems more intimate than its 12,500 square-foot footprint. Like Playboy, the elevators drop patrons in the middle of the club with an intimate VIP lounge located to the west and the clubs main room to the east. Directly to the front is a bar encased in LED light hexagon shapes that continue on the roof and walls surrounding the area. A trail of LED tiles in the floor create a ‘yellow brick road’ experience, except instead of just yellow, the lights blink different colors in different patterns that can even be set to the music. “No technology found in any other nightclub beats what we have at Moon,” Fuller notes, his smile growing larger with each step. Pointing to the retractable roof of the nightclub, he points out how in 90 seconds the club can be turned into a convertible. “We aren’t just going to open the roof, there is a whole production around it,” he states proudly while explaining how sound effects will blend with visual images displayed around the club to create a whole experience. Each of the windows encircling the main room are covered in diamond-like beaded curtains so that the technical team can shoot images onto the curtains adding to the experience. It’s obvious that the N9NE team spent a minor fortune creating the audio/visual experience that is, in part, created by the city’s first DL2 lighting systems, the newer brother of the DL1’s used at JET Nightclub ( The Mirage). “This is cutting-edge technology right here,” Fuller ads, hesitating to consider the possibilities for what has to be the millionth time, “and we have a whole laser and fog system in here that only adds to the effect. Oh, and the sound system in here will rattle your teeth,” he adds pointing up to multiple speakers surrounding the square shaped dance floor and grey with yellow fringed VIP booths. Further to the east, another bar resides surrounded by almost purple-hued marbles inlaid in black grout, creating a very ‘crater-esque’ feel. Behind that bar, a standing room only VIP balcony gives patrons an amazing view of the Strip, albeit a similar one to the neighboring ghostbar. Above this bar is a second level, VIP balcony that will contain more VIP tables and booths as well as get club goers even closer to the stars when the roof is open. Dual winding stairways will enable celebrities access to the balcony with even more LED lighting on the top of each handrail picket. In a recent press release, Degraff noted, “As a boutique nightclub, Moon offers a sense of intimacy that can’t be found in any other high end club. It is like nothing else on the planet.” After our tour, we have to simply agree and start counting down the days until the opening.

Don’t think for a second that Morton and DeGraff used up all of their good ideas at the two nightlife offerings because Nove is just as unique and just as innovative, except it’s laid out in a restaurant setting. As with the two other venues, nothing is painted instead the walls and ceilings focus on different finishes and uses lots of marble to stand out. Taking a page out of Bill Gates’ home decor, Nove features numerous framed mirrors that don’t reflect a mirrored image, instead reflecting classic Italian pieces of art that can be changed electronically. Nove’s wine cellar also gets a technological boost appearing as a contained pixilated light wall blinking away in different patterns and paces. Along the east side of the restaurant, five large topiaries reside playfully giving the restaurant a ‘green’ feel. The restaurant also features a second level balcony that will be used for additional seating and bar traffic. Also on the backside of the balcony is a row of two-top tables that are must-dos for dining with a significant other, especially with a view of the neon backdrop behind the large topiaries. Don’t worry though, it’s not just those seats that have the view as the restaurant is completely surrounded by windows. Canuck Will Dunbar has been tapped as the general manager of Nove and will have no problem seamlessly making the move from N9NE Steakhouse as the restaurant keeps a very distinct N9NE feel. “The thought with Nove was to find the balance between art and design,” Fuller adds while gazing across the dining room. “As with N9NE downstairs, we wanted to focus on the social aspects of dining and give guests a fun place to start the night with fantastic food.” While we haven’t gotten a chance to try Executive Chef Geno Bernardo’s authentic menu or fare just yet, if the food can remain as consistently delicious as N9NE and the scene can remain as distinctly cool at the bar, then Nove too will be a hit.

The new N9NE Group venues are fine-tuning their service and staffing this week before a grand opening over the weekend. The first promotion at the new venue will take place on Sunday, October 15th when the Playboy Club presents The November Playboy Magazine launch party featuring Tamara Witner, the gorgeous Playboy Playmate and October issue cover girl. Hosting the party will be two well-respected Vegas institutions; Ketel One Vodka, and, yours truly, the Eye on Vegas. The party will be in both the Playboy Club and Moon Nightclub. Talk about starting it right.

PURE in the Pyramid
An Eye on Vegas Exclusive

The Eye on Vegas broke the news abouts PURE Management Group’s second restaurant venture being installed at the Luxor months and months ago when we told you the steakhouse would carry the name Aspen 702. Sources from within the nightlife giant have finally confirmed the name along with some other juicy details given exclusively to the Eye on Vegas. As with PURE Nightclub, it seems as though P.M.G. has reached out to some high-powered celebrities for partnership and at least three have answered the investor call, including newly minted hotelier Nicky Hilton, actor Wilmer Valderrama and the happily single Nick Lachey. When P.M.G. opened Social House earlier this month, they happily admitted a lack of experience in the kitchen and hired a young superstar-in-waiting in former Nobu Matsuhisa protégée, Chef Joe Elevado to much success. With Aspen 702 they will be replicating the formula by hiring another up-and-comer and giving him his own shop in Chef Jonathan Snyder. Where Elevado was an expert in Asian fare, Snyder comes with some seriously stacked steakhouse experience; he was formerly executive chef of PRIME Steakhouse (Bellagio) where he fine-tuned his skills working under the shadow of acclaimed chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

While Aspen 702 would seemingly be P.M.G.’s sole restaurant venture at the Luxor, they had previously announced the addition of two more nightlife entities with strong Los Angeles ties in revered nightlife establishments LAX and Roxy. LAX is a Hollywood hotspot and the home to investor/resident DJ, DJ AM, so it should be expected that AM will reprise his guest spots at PURE Nightclub down the road, especially since he’s in the biggest name in a stacked deck of DJs signed to Sin City exclusive contracts with P.M.G. The Eye has also been tipped off that singer and ‘Dirty Girl’ Christina Aguilera has also come aboard as an investor in LAX. A third nightlife entity will also be appearing in the 60,000 some-odd-square-foot P.M.G. complex although everyone has been tightlipped on the details, until now. Our well-placed source within the organization told the Eye that Los Angeles nightlife queen Amanda Demme has been brought on to operate the lounge, her first outlet since being ousted from La-La land’s Roosevelt Hotel so rudely earlier this year.  If past experience with her two former Roosevelt hotspots, Teddy’s, named after her late husband and movie producer Ted Demme, and the pool-side Tropicana are any indication, the lounge will be ultra-hot, ultra-exclusive and ultra-hard to get into. Other nightlife personalities from Los Angeles have met the Strip with varied degrees of success, however, we have no doubt that Demme will create another hit on her hands by feeding off the synergy found between the two cities.

Are you a Hobo or a Gypsy

A new restaurant concept entitled Hobo’s and Gypsy’s is nearing a mid-October opening intent on proving you don’t need a multi-million budget to succeed in Las Vegas. Preaching ‘Comfort Food and Spirits to nurture the soul’, the new outlet will focus on serving the most important meal of the day, at the end of the day, to the hungry masses of the service industry who make each and every night in Vegas so great. While we’re keeping the location of H&G under wraps until next week we can release some early details. The staple promotion for the new restaurant is ‘Employees Only’, which will serve a special late menu for nightclub, bar and restaurant employees starting at 3A each morning. With an adjacent lounge, H&G will keep the early morning going with special DJ performances and celebrity appearances that will prove breakfast has never been so high-energy. While the Las Vegas culinary scene continues to grow and expand, late, late-night dining has been left to the plain old casino coffee shop or the neighborhood Denny’s, somewhat odd especially considering the late hours and 24-hour time clock of The Strip. Enter Hobo’s & Gypsy’s to cater to the industry who works late and plays later, so decide, are you a Hobo or a Gypsy?

There’s a new Burton in town
By Jerry Fink/Las Vegas Sun

Magician Nathan Burton is still young and has a long way to go before he is in the same league with the other magician named Burton down the street at the Monte Carlo (Lance Burton, no relation).

But Nathan is a rising star and well worth the admission of $12 to $27, which are pretty magic numbers in a town where triple-digit admission prices are the norm.

And you might recognize the new kid on the block, because he’s been getting a lot of well-deserved national exposure lately.

When he hasn’t been performing in his afternoon gig at the Aladdin’s V Theater, he has been hopping around the country appearing on television.

Slot Reviews By Gayle Mitchell

1) Deal or No Deal. Atronic. 2 spins.

Looks for two versions—red and blue created for this reel spinner where the popular Deal or No Deal symbol is wild that doubles the jackpot.

Each offers the familiar Cash Box Bonus to players of cash for a selected mystery prize.

From the group of 10 cash boxes, one is selected and sits at the top of the monitor, while three additional boxes selected display credits. The Bank reveals a guaranteed bonus at which time; the player decides Deal or No Deal. Play continues until an offer is accepted or no boxes remain. The player’s original selection is then opened.
Secondly, the Rapid Progressive Jackpot Bonus links to the top prize if five symbols line up.

Additionally, there is a mystery random award for the progressive jackpot.
Therefore, there are three ways to ‘seal the deal’.

2) Match & Win.

This slot features a 7 X 7 grid of tiles set in a monitor and a bet of 50 credits is mandatory to compete in the bonus round. 100 credits or more activates wild symbols and a max bet will double the payouts. The name of the game is to match 4, 5, 6 or 7 symbols horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Four in a row=25 credits, five=125 credits, 6=625 credits and seven=5000 credits.

The top jackpot resets at $200,000 and is yours if 7 of the same symbols line up horizontally on the center row with max coin in play.

When six or more symbols line up, it’s time for the Chocolate Fantasy Bonus where you are lead down a path through a large box chocolates offer five rewards.
You could carry the first prize onward to the next until the round ends with a cumulative total for all five.

The fast pace and extra wins make this slot a ‘great match’ for slot players.

3) Loco Loot

The games included in this Hyperlink version are Choy Sun Doa, Pompeii, Red Baron and Whales of Cash and the top jackpot resets at $10,000.

There are four levels of link progressives: Mini, Minor, Major plus Grand Jackpot and as with other Reel Power slots–up to 243 ways to win.

For the bonus round, a locomotive is displayed and your touch will determine which of the progressives will be your challenge.

Choy Sun Doa offers a Chinese Theme and Pompeii harkens back to the ancient volcano.

The renowned WW1 flying ace, Red Baron and water is the theme for Whales of Cash.

As you make your way towards the jackpot(s), there are free spins for fun.
Be sure to bet on all the lines, although it’s not necessary to play max. coin to qualify for the bonus round.

For those players who love to play these popular progressives, Loco Loot should be a stop along the way.

Microgaming.com announces two online slot releases:

4) Dolphin Tale

For one last dose of sun, sea and fun before summer is over look no further than Microgaming’s new video slot Dolphin Tale.

With wacky characters from the deep blue, this game has five reels and 40 paylines.
Players can bet up to 200 coins with the chance to get as much as 300,000 coins if the bonus features in the game come to surface. This means a base game jackpot of 3,750.00 and a potential reward of 75,000.00 from the generous free spins that make this dynamic game so compelling.

This wet and wild challenge is based on the good and evil of the undersea.
The Sea Squad are underwater police who are fighting a crime wave.
Headed by Chief Walrus and his rookie Dolphin, the Sea Squad battle against creatures from the depths of the dark waters. Once caught, the scaly criminals are sent on an ID parade with a difference, where players can win rewards including up to 25 free spins.

On the Wild and Free Spins, players have the chance to choose a number to which the random multiplier could increase as much as 20 times – a great opportunity to reel in big winnings.

And, if that’s still not enough, once in the Free Spins there is a further Extra Wild boosting the catch even further.

5) Age of Discovery

If you don’t fancy going underwater, then stay on the surface and become master and commander of a mysterious voyage in Microgaming’s video slot Age of Discovery. This game is an adventure with a difference where players dabble in a spot of time travel.

The 5 reel, 25 payline game exemplifies the magic of modern online gaming technology as players go back in time and sail across mysterious unchartered oceans in search of riches. The graphics in this game are not the only thing that makes it so exhilarating to play. On the voyage, players will have the chance to add wins as well as being able to haul aboard some attractive bonuses from a 3, 4 or 5 scattered Bonus Trigger with 30 choices.

With a jackpot win of 30,000., this expedition has treasure worth seeking.

Gerry McCambridge - The Mentalist

Reviewed September, 2006
by Nancy Dickinson from www.accessvegas.com

It’s plain good ol’ Las Vegas tradition to capture the awe of viewers with dynamic props, extravagant effects, unconventional talent, and unparalleled showmanship (though often an overkill). One man, however, opens doors to the hearts, emotions, and spirits of people using entertainment weapons that far surpass the need for a stage crew: His mind and the minds of those he encounters.

Gerry McCambridge, better known as “The Mentalist,” has the undeniable ability to get into the heads of any and everybody. So much so that his 20 year cerebral career journey has taken him from celebrity events to a major NBC television series to his own full blown show at The Stardust. This man knows what is going on in the head of any person at any given time, facts ranging from their specific idiosyncratic personal habits to the exact name of their very first crush…and he is so freakishly accurate.

But Gerry himself is only a freak in how thoroughly and meticulously he refined his gift. Intuition alone wouldn’t cut it. He studied the mind to no end along with Psychology, Hypnosis, and Linguistics (just to name a few); watched how people communicate with one another; observed body language, eye movement, and tone of voice; he even worked in a psychiatric hospital and learned facts about how the brain worked. And lucky for Las Vegas, he’s sharing the whole psychological sha-bang.

“Make sure cell phones are turned…on.” On? Yes, if anyone’s phone rings during the show, Gerry will read the mind of the person on the other end. Amazing, yes, and a feat that leaves little room for conspiracy as anyone would love to somehow reveal that this guy is a fake. Gerry, as a matter of fact, holds up a check for $25,000 that goes to anyone who can prove any of his show material is conspired from anything else than his own special mind mastery.

Audience participation makes up the entire experience. People in the audience pick other audience members for his readings (again eliminating space for skepticism) and he proceeds with things such as their full name to if they’re married with children, how many children; even to mentioning the exact spot they may be planning to move. The reaction of the person at his mental mercy says it all. “Anything in your head I have access to. Be afraid, be very afraid.”

Blindfolded, very, very blindfolded, Gerry also demonstrates that he can tell what a material item is without touching it. Randomly, 3 purse items are picked from the audience and The Mentalist can tell exactly what they are, personal items as bizarre as guitar picks or travel bibles. His method for this is of a basic principal- the whole audience if focused on the item, feeding him the information he needs. Go ahead and try to be a skeptic now.

“Now, where there’s a door, passage through can go in more than one direction. This may explain how when random audience members were asked to pick a city (any in the world) or a color (more specifically any kind of weird color combination), Gerry already had their responses in a sealed envelope that remained on stage and untouched throughout the show in plain view. Yes, he was putting the responses he wanted in their heads. You were thinking Sydney, but for some reason said Denver? Well, that’s why.

And truthfully, this is only a small sample of Gerry McCambridge’s maddening display of what most want to deem impossible. Faith in his remarkable, highly tuned abilities lies in simply seeing him perform this earth-stopping trade. Could it just be categorized as plain magic? No, his only magic lies in making people believe in the unbelievable.

On The Town With Vegas Vic
Article from www.accessvegas.com

By: Victor H. Royer

Welcome to Las Vegas! My name is Victor H. Royer, but everyone just calls me Vegas Vic. I was named after that famous neon sign in Downtown Las Vegas, that cowboy with the hat on top of the Pioneer Club, always waving his hand and beckoning to his long love, Sassy Sally, on the other side of the street. I will be writing a few articles for AccessVegas.com, so I hope you enjoy them.

Video Slots — I Dream of Jeannie
This delightful television show has always been one of my favorites. Like any teenager in the mid 1960’s I had an awful crush on Barbara Eden, the actress who played Jeannie in the TV show. I still watch all the episodes I can find on TV and still find enjoyment in that classic comedy. They just don’t make them like this any more, sadly.

This terrific game from IGT comes packaged in hot pink, of course, with the cartoon illustration of Jeannie on the front of the machine’s cabinet. The game is a five line 9-reel video slot machine, which in this version features the Jeannie Bottle Bonus. You may have already played a similar game where there is a bonus wheel mounted at the top of the game, similar to the Wheel of Fortune game, also made by IGT. In that game, you get to spin the wheel when you hit the required combination on any active payline. This game is different, and you can tell them apart easily because this one doesn’t have the big wheel at the top, but instead has a big Jeannie bottle mounted over the machine.

There are actually two bonuses in this game. The Make a Wish Bonus starts when three, four or five of these “wish” symbols land on adjacent reels left-to-right. The voice of Jeannie will congratulate you and asks you to select one or more bottles. If you achieved entry into this bonus round by landing three of the “wish” symbols, then you will get to pick one bottle. You will get to pick two bottles if you landed four of the “wish” symbols, and your will get to pick three bottles if you landed all five of the “wish” symbols to get into this round. Each time you touch the bottle during this round it turns into a puff of pink Jeannie dust and this reveals the amount of credits you have won.

The Jeannie Bottle Bonus starts when you land three, four or five of the “bottle” symbols on adjacent reels. The screen reveals a lot of Jeannie bottles on a beach. Each bottle reveals a bonus credit win. Keep touching the bottles for as long as you can, but when you touch a bottle which reveals the words “Sorry, Master”, spoken by Jeannie, then the round is over. All the credits you have won so far are now added to your other wins.
