NORM: Saddle Horn: Roy riding to recovery.
Illusionist Roy Horn is back in the saddle again.
He’s not only walking, but he’s returned to horseback riding as part of his physical therapy.
“He rides weekly now, and it’s like he never left. It’s so liberating,” said close friend and riding partner Lynette Chappell, a longtime member of the Siegfried & Roy cast. She played the Evil Queen.
Horn had not ridden since being injured by a tiger on Oct. 3, 2003, his 59th birthday, during the magic team’s show at The Mirage.
For years, Roy opened the show by riding Grandisimo, a Lippizaner, or Favorito, an Andalusian, on stage. Siegfried then got in the act by making both disappear.

Steve’s Las Vegas Quickies:
Kudos to Boyd Gaming Corp. Its Sam’s Town hotel-casino recently was named tops in customer satisfaction in an Expedia.com survey of users. The Boulder Strip landmark narrowly beat out Wynn Las Vegas, which came in No. 2. Besides Sam’s Town, Suncoast (No. 3) and The Orleans (No. 6), also owned by Boyd Gaming Corp, finished in the Top 10. MGM Mirage, however, had the most winners, including Monte Carlo (No. 4), Bellagio (No. 7), New York-New York (No. 9) and The Mirage (No. 10).

Today’s weekend edition of the Wall Street Journal contains a big story on sushi quality in restaurants. Among the five Las Vegas restaurants, included from a list of 50 in 10 cities, is our top recommendation, Sushi Fever, which has one of the lowest prices on the list ($2.25) per piece of yellowtail. MGM’s Shibuya and Bellagio’s Shintaro are near the highest at $4.50 per piece. The article claims that, when it comes to yellowtail at least, most product comes from the same farms in Japan.

The Las Vegas Hilton has once again been voted as one of the top 10 best US Business Hotels by American Airlines’ Celebrated Living Magazine readers. The results will be published in the summer issue (on-board all AA First/Business Class cabins from May 15 - August 14, reaching 2.9 million luxury-minded travelers). American Airlines is the only airline to offer a luxury publication solely for First/Business Class.
The Las Vegas Hilton SuperBook was named best Sports Book by both readers and staff members in the 2006 Las Vegas Review Journal’s “The Best of Las Vegas” poll.
The 25th annual poll is divided into two sections, readers’ pick and staff picks and the Hilton scored with both sides. The reader poll credits Jay Kornegay, the Superbook’s executive director; the staff poll noted, “Wouldya believe, 300 proposition bets for the Super Bowl? The Hilton also was fun for “Monday Night Football” specials…”
Note From Steve:
Readers will remember last year when I said that after my friend Jay Kornegay took over the Race and Sportsbook at the Las Vegas Hilton, it would be #1 one? Well we didn’t have to wait too long for my prediction to come true!
Hundreds of Las Vegans helped Alka-Seltzer celebrate its 75th anniversary by setting a “Guinness World Record” for the “World’s Largest Buffet” at the Las Vegas Hilton. The buffet, which was served to 848 guests in three seatings, was hosted by actress and comedian Kathy Griffin. Proceeds from the event will be donated to America’s Second Harvest – The Nation’s Food Bank Network, the nation’s largest charitable hunger-relief organization.

FUNNY BUSINESS COMEDY CLUB PRESENTS TOP-RATED SHOW
Well-Known and On-The-Rise Comedians Perform at Funny Business Comedy Club! From the producers of “X Girls, The Show,” comes something a little less sexy and a lot more side-splitting. Funny Business Comedy Club runs nightly at 7 pm at Aladdin’s Krave Theatre.
Angela Sampras and Matt Stabile, the producers of “X Girls, The Show” at the Aladdin’s V theatre, use their creative vision to bring together a mixture of veteran comedians and up-and-comers. The performers of Funny Business combine a unique blend of comedy, singing and dancing into an outrageous show that made comedy king, Jerry Lewis exclaim, “It’s funnier here than I am!”
The All-Star line-up includes hostess Pudgy! Queen of Tease; from the E! Channel’s “Wayne Newton’s Entertainer,” Joe Trammel and Dave Russo; the hysterical James Bean; and the saucy Carole Montgomery.
Pudgy! The Queen of Tease plays hostess and is the veteran of the recurring cast. With more than 20 years of comedic experience including a Showtime Network Special, she gets the crowd roaring. Trammel is a world-class street dancer, and for more than 10 years he has performed in Las Vegas productions such as “Splash,” “Showgirls,” “Crazy Girls,” and “V, the Ultimate Variety Show.” During his performance he goes through dozens of costume changes and lip-syncs parodies to movies and songs.
Although relatively new, Bean has already made a mark for himself opening for comedic heavyweights including George Wallace, Patti LaBelle and Jeff Foxworthy. Montgomery and Russo round out the cast with a blend of raunchy, often politically incorrect humor. In 2005, Montgomery completed a successful run of her one woman show, “Confessions of a PT&A Mom.” Russo recently appeared on Comedy Central with Dave Chappelle.
Funny Business performs nightly at 7 pm inside the Krave Theatre, located at Desert Passage in the Aladdin Resort & Casino. Tickets are $34.95 for general admission and $39.95 for VIP booth seating. For more information please call the Box Office at (702) 650-2702.
INSIDE VEGAS ENTERTAINMENT - CONTRIBUTED BY CALL BACK NEWS
Since the dawn of modern civilization there has been some sort of “get rich quick scheme”. Human nature lends itself to finding the easiest path. The easier path is good for some things…like the dishwasher. Not only is it quicker and easier than hand washing, but it’s also more sterile and safe. Sometimes the easier path is not better…like the new trend of “get famous without effort”.
We can pinpoint this new trend as far back as the gong show. But the prevalence of the trend really took hold around the time of Reality TV. This ’script less format’ is making people celebrities without holding them to any sort of standard, other than maybe looking good on tape. They don’t even have to be nice (consider Omarosa).
Working so closely with the entertainment community, I see this trend every day. I meet so many young people who are looking for their big break, but are not getting the training they need to make themselves a serious contender. Everyone, it seems, is on the Idol Bandwagon, hoping Simon, Paula and Randy will see some glimmer of hope in them and magically turn them into a pop star. Nobody really talks about the months of hard work off camera it took Kelly Clarkson to become a pop star.
There are people who have natural talent. Two Vegas locals come to mind, Brody Dolyniuk from YBR, and Earl Turner. These gentlemen were born with some innate abilities that make them great. But, they’ve also spent years honing their skills, practicing, rehearsing with a band, trying new things, and promoting themselves.
If you want to be a star in the entertainment industry, you need to focus on your craft. Actors for years have talked of working with Stella Adler, a hard nosed coach with a penchant for getting to the grit of a character. They have worked summer stock, off-Broadway, and even off-off-Broadway. They attend workshops, improv sessions, and read part after part. Most of the celebrities that you see on Inside the Actor’s Studio had years of these activities and remained relatively unknown until finally all their hard work paid off.
Here in Vegas, we have so many ways to stay at the top of your entertaining game. There are coaches and schools and dance studios. Second City has a fabulous open improv session on Monday nights. There is karaoke (don’t snicker, it’s practice before an audience, and some of the top names in
Vegas entertainment are keeping themselves skilled and vital with it). Another way, of course, is to read our paper CallBack News. Not just auditions, but articles about people in the industry, educational guidance, and other information to help hone your skills.
Remember, if you really want to make your mark, you can’t just expect it to happen because that’s what you want. Make it happen by making yourself the best candidate.

Hooters Casino Hotel Hosts Hooters Girl Casting Call, April 4
Hooters Casino Hotel will host a casting call party for Hooters Girl auditionees on Tuesday, April 4th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at “13” Martini
Bar. All interested Hooters Girl applicants are welcome to attend.
Hooters Girls enjoy very flexible hours and excellent benefits. They may also have the opportunity to model for commercials, billboards and the Hooters Calendar, as well as the chance to compete for $50,000 in Hooter’s International Swimsuit Pageant, taking place in Las Vegas this year.
Many have utilized the position as a launch pad to modeling and acting careers, starting out as servers in Hooters Restaurants, and eventually enjoying the success as a Hooters Calendar Girl, which brings with it hundreds of well-paying promotional opportunities, international travel, incredible exposure and more.
Applicants interviewing for Hooters Girl positions with Hooters Casino Hotel will enjoy a fun party atmosphere during the audition. Designed to make the auditioning process cool, casual and comfortable, the casting call party will include a Hooters social area complete with beverage stations, a D.J. spinning music and projector screens showing what it’s like being a Hooters Girl. In addition, existing Hooters Girls will be present mingling with all auditionees to share their secrets of success.
Hooters Casino Hotel is seeking vivacious, friendly and fit women to work as Hooters Girls for the positions of food servers, cocktail servers, bartenders and table game dealers. No experience is necessary, just the Hooters Girl “look” and the right attitude.

I love the newsletters and the forums
