NORM: For Rita Rudner, time to move on.

Rita Rudner ends her five-year resident headliner run at New York-New York in June, to make room for a nightclub.

In confirming the move on Tuesday, Rudner said she’ll be back this fall at an unidentified property.

“They just feel they want a nightclub … and sometimes a move is good for everybody,” Rudner said by telephone.

“The good news,” she said, “is we’ve got a lot of offers, and we should know by the end of this week or early next week.”

Her fifth anniversary at New York-New York is April 20, and her last performance there will be June 10.

According to scuttlebutt, the Cabaret Theater, which seats 428, will be renovated to house Crobar, owned by Ken Smith and Cal Fortis, who have Crobar locations in Chicago, Miami and New York.

Martin Bergman, Rudner’s husband-producer, is in negotiations with three properties, she said.

“We bought a beach house in Laguna, and it will be my first summer off in six years and then we’ll be going back to work.”

Her run at New York-New York has sold more than 600,000 tickets and grossed $35 million.

“We loved working with Felix Rappaport and Richard Sturm,” she said, referring to the former New York-New York boss and Sturm, the president and COO for MGM MIRAGE Entertainment and Sports.

Well, it’s Mardi Gras time again and Harrah’s, O’Sheas and the Flamingo Las Vegas are going to celebrate it on the Strip on Saturday, Feb. 25. The celebration will be outdoors between Carnaval Court, O’Sheas and Margaritaville, kicking off at 4 p.m. and running until midnight. Festivities will start with a parade beginning at Harrah’s, moving past O’Sheas and ending at the Flamingo. The Mardi Gras-style parade will make its way between the three hotels every half hour from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. joined by a Dixie band, Harrah’s and Flamingo showgirls, greeter girls, a baton twirler and Margaritaville stilt-walkers.

And keeping with true New Orleans fashion, showgirls and greeters will toss ceremonial beads to spectators. There will also be giveaways and coupons for Southern Comfort drink specials at Carnaval Court, O’Sheas and Margaritaville and specialty cocktails created just for Mardi Gras, such as Southern Comfort “Harrahcane” and “Southern Lemonade.” After the parades end, the celebration will continue with live entertainment at Carnaval Court, O’Sheas and Margaritaville.

The latest news about the Harrah’s Mega-Resort is as follows:
Harrah’s has said that they are putting “millions of $$$$’s” into upgrading Harrah’s Las Vegas and the Flamingo Las Vegas, so it looks like they will not be imploded if Harrah’s follows through with their “Mega-Resort” plans. Nothing further has been announced for the I.P. or Bally’s. I do know that there has been a lot of money spent recently at the IP in improvements and room renovations have restarted.

“Matsuri,” also known as “Muscle Musical,” arrives March 1 at the Riviera by way of Yokohama, Japan, where it runs in a customized “Muscle Theater,” much like the Cirque du Soleil shows here.

The revue is a spinoff from a Japanese TV show, “Kinnikubanzuke,” and combines stunts, acrobatics and percussive body movements a la “Stomp.” Olympic medalists are featured in solo spots showcasing skills such as trampoline acrobatics and in-line skating.

  1. Just wanted to say, we visited Las Vegas for the umpteenth time and had the Ellis Island steak special for the 2nd trip in a row, and as usual it was outstanding. Even better is the bbq restaurant. I had a 2 for 1 from the American Casino Guide, so my hubby and I ate there. We had the 1/2 slab of ribs, 1/2 chicken, cole slaw, beans, corn on the cob, and garlic toast. The waiter took the coupon and said, “$6″. Where else can you get that kind of food???? AND it was AWESOME! Everything was great. Can’t wait to go back in November! Also, I do recommend going to the bbq early as they close at 10. We were there at 9:30 and we lucked out-someone didn’t answer when they called them, so we got to eat!! I highly recommend both the steak and ribs. I also had their club sandwich and it was so big, I could only eat 1/2 of the sandwich~I have a big appetite~it came with fries. The best club I ever had!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Just wanted to say thank you for your great news letter and for the forum. I love reading about Vegas and getting ideas for when i go there.

    Thanks again!
