As part of the Las Vegas Centennial a giant birthday cake was created by 600 volunteers. The behemoth cake weighed 130,000 pounds, measured 102 feet long, 52 feet wide and 20 inches high. The cake broke the record of the World’s Largest Birthday Cake beating the former record holder; Fort Payne, Alabama by nearly 2,000 pounds. “I hate that we have lost the honor, but it took a great city like Las Vegas to beat us out,” said Bill Jordan, Mayor of Fort Payne. Organizers said they expected Guinness Book of Records officials to confirm the world’s largest cake within upcoming weeks. Source:www.lvrj.com

100 couples say ‘I do’ to centennial celebration event.
By Vegas standards, it was a traditional wedding. Along with white gowns,
tiaras and proud fathers, there were tourists clutching plastic beer cups, grooms
in baseball caps, and 40-foot digital wedding bells swinging overhead.
The “Once Upon 100 Weddings” event, part of Las Vegas’ year-long centennial
celebration, wed 100 couples Thursday night under the Fremont Street Experience
canopy.
The wedding was officiated by the Rev. Duane Williams of the Special Memory
Wedding Chapel and was witnessed by Mayor Oscar Goodman. Speaking against a
backdrop advertising “Wedding Crashers,” the new Owen Wilson movie, Goodman said,
“Remember Las Vegas as the place it all started. With Lady Luck on your side,
you are all destined to have the brightest of futures.”

Motorcyclist Bela Tabak has made his career inside the ‘Globe of Death’ in
‘Splash’
By Mike Weatherford.
Bela Tabak remembers when “Splash” was the talk of the town — his middle
school included.
“I remember kids in my school going, ‘Yeah, we went to go see “Splash.” ‘ Or
their parents did,” he recalls. “It had things I had never seen in it. It had
street dancing, sea lions. … Just the way (producer Jeff) Kutash did
everything. It was modernized.”
But few classmates knew the 12-year-old was sometimes in the show, riding one
of the four motorcycles inside the “Globe of Death.” As it turned out, the
bikes roaring circles around each other inside a 15-foot globe would become the
one constant element in the show’s 20-year history.

Wrestling Superstar Hulk Hogan Purchases Penthouse Condo at The Palms in Las
Vegas.
Today, international personality and superstar of the wrestling world, Hulk
Hogan, announced his agreement to purchase a luxury penthouse condominium unit
at the Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Palms Place, a new high rise
residential condominium and spa, is the next phase of George Maloof’s super hot
Palms Resort and Casino property in Las Vegas, scheduled for completion in
2007. Palms Place promises to be the most exclusive high rise residential
condominium in Las Vegas.
Hogan, a frequent visitor to Las Vegas, recently began staying at the Palms
exclusively after attending a performance there by his daughter, Brooke Hogan.
Hogan said, “I grabbed George and asked him to show me the plans for his new
tower and condos, and I fell in love with the place … there’s no other place
like this in Vegas.” Hogan, along with his wife (Linda), son (Nick) and
Brooke star in the new VH-1 reality series “Hogan Knows Best,” scheduled to air on
Sunday, July 10th at 10pm. Hogan went on to cite the new multi-room, state
of the art recording studio being built by Maloof on the Palms property as part
of his motivation for purchasing at the Palms. His daughter is embarking on
a music career and is looking forward to recording there.
ABOUT PALMS PLACE — Adjacent to the Palms Resort and Casino hotel towers, a
50-story condominium hotel and spa will be built. The project, named Palms
Place, will feature studio and one bedroom suite condominiums, as well as
penthouses with balconies built around stunningly unique glass pools and is slated
to begin construction in 2006. Palms Place will be connected to the Palms by
an enclosed, elevated, moving walkway, allowing residents 24-hour access to
amenities at the Palms.
“Palms Place will be the premier condominium hotel complete with a
world-class spa, VIP concierge service and all the action of the Palms lifestyle,”
Maloof said. “The building will be spectacular and will boast wide ranging views
of the Strip and Spring Mountains.”
Only one tower will be built at Palms Place, creating a more exclusive
environment, according to Maloof. The Jerde Partnership, based in Los Angeles,
Calif., is the architect for Palms Place and the new hotel tower. Palms Place will
feature a private, gated entryway, a 50,000-square-foot pool and spa, valet
parking and more. The fully furnished contemporary condominiums will range
from 600 to 7,000 square feet. Prices range from $500,000 to $7 million.

Blind performer
Joey Boesch has been blind almost since birth, but hasn’t let his lack of
sight destroy the greater vision he has of the world.
The 50-year-old performer from Houston writes, composes, plays piano and
sings.
He will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday through June 21 in “Spotlight” at Bourbon
Street.
Boesch is the adopted son of the late famed wrestling promoter Paul Boesch.
The entertainer performs each year at the Cauliflower Alley Club convention
in Las Vegas. The club is comprised of professional wrestlers and former
wrestlers.
“I started playing piano by ear when I was 4 years old,” Boesch said.
Boesch, who was a month premature, was put into an oxygen machine when he was
born. The malfunctioning machine caused his blindness and also a slight case
of cerebral palsy.
His mother, Valerie, has been a constant companion ever since — guiding his
career as well as his performances, leading him onstage and helping him find
his mark at the microphone or his piano bench.
“I have devoted my life to Joey,” Valerie said. “He didn’t ask to be brought
here. I had to do everything I could. I had my life, now it’s his turn.”
The devoted mother has spent 46 years in the wings, watching her son perform
– mostly at charitable functions in Texas, but also at churches and in
prisons for inmates.
“I’m doing the best I can to manage his career, for someone who doesn’t know
what she’s doing,” Valerie said.
Her son has performed at concerts featuring Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Bob
Hope and dozens of other celebrities over the years.
“I just want someone to hear him,” Valerie said.
Boesch plays several instruments besides the piano — trumpet, trombone,
clarinet, drums.
“When he’s onstage, he will keep you spellbound,” Valerie said.

Beauty & The Bar
In 1995 the first Beauty Bar outlet, in New York City, served a martini with
a manicure sidecar, and the rest is history. Wildly successful outlets in San
Francisco and Los Angeles would follow and the time has now come for an
expansion to Las Vegas. The Beauty Bar is set to open downtown on Fremont Street in
the very near future complete with an interior that was salvaged from a
classic 50’s salon in New Jersey and Nexo Sound System from the folks at Infinite
Audio.
The Eye has learned that the ultra-lounge at Wynn Las Vegas will carry the
name Lure. We also have heard that the nightclub, La Bete, French for The Beast,
will not offer dinner service (a la rumjungle) as originally planned.
The nightclub minds behind The Aladdin’s Curve Nightclub have a new weekly
event with ‘Sizzle.’ They promise live jam sessions and dance routines every
Friday & Saturday night after midnight at the Sapphires Gentlemen’s Club.
A new partnership between HBO, AEG Live and TBS is bringing ‘The Comedy
Festival’ to Las Vegas starting on November 7th of this year. The first annual
T.C.F. will have over 50 performances, events and screenings over three days in
nine performance venues, all at Caesars Palace and the Flamingo Las Vegas
including high-profile events at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace and The Flamingo
Showroom.

Comedy turns to serious business in new Strip festival
A new comedy festival is headed to the Strip, this one backed with serious
clout and geared more to consumers than a 3-year-old festival that targets
aspiring performers.
The Nov. 17-20 event, simply titled The Comedy Festival, promises more than
50 performances, events and film screenings at Caesars Palace and the Flamingo.
It will be produced by HBO as an offshoot of the cable network-funded U.S.
Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colo., and AEG Live, which produces Celine Dion’s
show in the Colosseum at Caesars Palace and most of the theater’s visiting
concert acts.
“I like to tell people we’re trying to do the comedy Olympics,” says festival
chairman Bob Crestani, who also oversees the Aspen festival.
Along with the 4,000-seat Colosseum, old-school Flamingo showroom and The
Second City venue , the festival will transform convention space into movie
screening rooms and “really cool club settings,” Crestani says.

Impressive Singer
Society of Seven adds incredible voice to show.
Having lived here for so long and seen so many entertainers of all types, I
am not easily impressed. That all changed this past Sunday afternoon when I
went to see Society of Seven perform at Bally’s. I had seen them before, as this
talented bunch of guys from Hawaii play Las Vegas often, but this time I was
told they had added a singer who had an incredible voice. I decided to find out
for myself and to say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement.
All I’m going to say now is that Lani Misalucha is better than Whitney
Houston before her drugged-out days, is easily a match for Celine Dion, and dare I
say it, as good as Barbra Streisand at her best. I interviewed her and the SOS
after the show and you can read my full interview in next week’s eNeon

Gambler sues casino over his depiction on reality TV show
A professional gambler has filed suit against Green Valley Ranch Station
Casino, claiming that he has been banned from other casinos and gambling
tournaments because he was depicted as a cheat on a reality show profiling the
Henderson property.
Joseph Pane, a retired Brooklyn cop who travels the country playing blackjack
tournaments, filed suit in Clark County District Court April 6 seeking
“profits connected with the airing of his likeness as well as punitive damages.”
The suit centers on a particular episode of the Discovery Channel series
“American Casino” that depicted a high-end blackjack tournament at Green Valley
Ranch. In an interview about the suit, Pane said he participated in another
blackjack tournament for locals that was held the same day as the high-end
tournament and was asked to sign a release so that he could be taped for the show.
